Hi Derek! Great to see you here and be able to get your recipes! I fondly remember your cooking for us at PSL and how delicious every meal was, transforming our retreats from subsistence to splendor ! Love to you & your family.
I have to say you are by far the best. You have helped and inspired me so much and I absolutely love the perfection you put into your food. Epic techniques. I now am eating more mushrooms than ever, I feel amazing. Big love brotha!!! ❤️🔥🫶
I tried this (only had small king oyster mushrooms though) and boy was it good!! Just like the real thing .. not like jackfruit .. this is chewy! Only trouble is, those mushrooms SHRINK so use more. Bon appetit 🌹
Totally! It seems like a lot when you get started, and those shrooms shrink down quite a bit, so you'll want to start off with more than you think you need! And jackfruit has more of a sweetness to it (still delicious), whereas the mushrooms are so earthy yet otherworldly.
I just came across this channel - easily one of the best vegan cooking channels (more like a cooking show) out there! This needs way more love and subscribers, just awesome! I also love the fact that you use lots of simple/real food like mushrooms instead of fake gluten whatnot food stuffs
I made this recipe unfortunately, I only had three king oyster mushrooms. No leftovers 😢. I added baby a bellas, for volume. Paired with Asian coleslaw. 🎉🎉🎉
No tengo horno 😢,pero lo voy hacer igual.. mientras veía el vídeo no paraba de caerme la baba 🤤 jajaja comida sana hermano, eso es lo que sucede 🎉🎉. Saludos desde Canarias.
Thank you for a great recipe; I just made it today. So easy and very tasty! I added some smoked paprika into the spice mix and mixed in julienned onions in with the shredded mushrooms to let caramelize in the skillet. This was just...wow! Wickedly amazing!! Cheers!
That looks so good. I only think about jackfruit pulled pork and I can never find green jackfruit, I always have to buy it pre made in a pack with bbq. Going to get some mushrooms when I go grocery shopping I think.
I really don't like the taste of mushrooms (which is a problem) but this looks really good. maybe the bbq sauce will dominate the taste of the mushrooms. 😇
Give these mushrooms a go. They don't have that predominant "mushroom" taste. They take a flavouring real well too. If these were served to you and you didn't know what was in them, you would not be able to tell they were mushrooms.
What a "wicked" recipe! Loved it! I added a few splashes of liquid smoke to my sauce, which elevated it even more! I will try many more of your recipes from your book. Thank you. 🙏
I am starting to explore the mushroom world and, at least where I live, I find two problems. 1. Variety. It is hard to find different mushrooms. 2. Packaging: due to water content, I feel like I have to buy 2 or 3 packs ja for one recipe. Mushrooms should be sold as potatoes
I love dishes like these. I can't stand the processed fake meat stuff that the food industry keeps shoveling down our throats. If I'm going for a veggie dish then I'm content with enjoying veggies :D
It is making me sad that you think you have to go fast. Everyone loves your videos and nobody wants them to go by faster! Not sure who is advising your otherwise, but they are wrong!!!
I agree - I love Derek’s v natural style, whether the videos are quick or more chatty & leisurely... brilliant chef. He and young Gaz Oakley have introduced me to veganism for the first time age 49. Luckily my local supermarket is the one where he oversees the plant-based food so that helps access to the best produce & products. It’s only been a month but I’m genuinely feeling the difference... :)
@@Shelsight That's great. Yes, you can feel a massive difference very quickly, especially if you keep the added fats on the low side. I love the Wicked recipes and enjoy Gaz too.
Looks tasty. I love the oyster mushrooms with Bavarian bbq sauce. These mushrooms are so versatile and delicious. And they don’t even need much time on the pan. Love the texture too.
Made this dish last night along with a vegan macaroni salad and mmm mm mm. The absolute most delicious thing. I am craving it again tonight. Only difference was I omitted the beer.
I finally got around to making this and was blown away by how good it was. The potatoes too were perfect. I used cluster oyster mushrooms, and the only thing I'd do differently next time was shred and chop them, rather than just pull them apart. The stems can be kind of tough. Banger of a recipe!
I'm doing this next. Tonight I tried press-frying oyster clusters, then baking with homemade satay sauce. Off-the-chain delicious! King oyster taste even better raw than oysters so I'm very anticipatory. Mastering these techniques will take some time, I am enjoying trying everything very much. Thank you Derek & Frankie. 💚🥗
This is literally INSANE !! Wow. I love it and want to do it at home. I am really excited about the vegan pulled pork. Thank you very much for this video.
When I added the bbq sauce I stopped at 200 gram because that already was way too much. Had it in the oven for 20 minutes but it still was a bbq soup. I don't think the recipe in the description is correct, 450 gram is a whole bottle.
Looks delicious, will have to see if the grocer carries king oyster mushrooms. I’ve seen similar recipes using jackfruit, but I can’t find that either. Are there any other mushrooms that can be shredded? Thank you for sharing 🌟
Hey Giselle, you can honestly shred, crumble, slice or generally deconstruct almost any mushroom imaginable and get the same flavor and satisfying result. It won't look the same as this, which is the big magic trick, since it ends up looking so similar to traditional meat-based products. The big idea is that you need to create as much surface area as possible for the Seasoning, Searing and Sauce (or the 3 S's as we like to say) to grab onto. So whatever mushroom you end up using, try to get it into long thin strips, or at least bite-size crumbles so that it gets all delicious and amazing.
@@DerekSarnoChef thank you for the tip. I love mushrooms and typically buy the large white buttons, not even sure right now which those are, but I’m going to see which others there might be, I’m sure there are portabella’s, will see! Thanks again.
Hey Paula I used to be vegan and it was great at first but after a while I ended up becoming fatigued. I suggest that you eat sustainable raised beef from local farms and Whole Foods.
@@Skulltaro haha trust me I ate a Whole Foods plant based diet and took supplements hardly ever had any junk food, I even went to my doctor to get blood work. Once I started eating eggs again I felt so much better I didn’t want to believe it was my diet so tried to just eat vegan again and a couple weeks later I feel terrible again so then I just started with eggs and chicken. Now I basically eat meat eggs dairy fruit and vegetables and I feel better than ever.
Pork? What pork?? It's a pulled MUSHROOM sandwich that's all. Why do vegans love naming their food after animals? It's mushrooms with BBQ seasoning in a bun. Shreded BBQ mushroom roll. It looks absolutely delicious, and i just found a ton of wild grey oyster mushrooms and will make this, but get real with the names.
I just found a Asian Market that has all kinds of Wicked mushrooms so I bought one of each to start trying out these recipes. Tonight I just made the pulled pork and it looks amazing. I found it cutting the mushroom in half and then using the fork to shred it from the inside out worked really easily
You can’t use the word pork if there is no pork. Putting quotes around it doesn’t make it like “pork” If vegan is so good why do all vegans have to make food that is like meat. Just eat meat 🥩
I made this with cremini mushrooms and homemade bbq sauce - absolutely blew my mind! Almost cried, it tasted so freaking good. I should've left it in the oven longer to get it to dry up for a meat-like texture, but I was impatient, and yet it still tasted better than the real thing. Permanent addition to my recipe book!
Stay positive and happy. Work hard and don't give up hope. Be open to criticism and keep learning. Surround yourself with happy, warm and genuine people.
I have larger mushrooms that I used to make the recipe. It was tasty, but the mushrooms are chewy. Is it because my mushrooms were bigger or because I didn’t sauté long enough in the pan? Any suggestions would be appreciated as I’ve never used king oyster mushrooms. Thanks.
No wonder vegans aren't all that healthy because look at ingredients Vegetable oil!! are u kidding major heart disease Bad oil canola vegetable and sunflower
Hi! I found out this channel not long ago. I must say that the new ideas of food on your show are the best ,wonderful and amazing and I want to cook everything you make. I am a vegetarian. You are the best !
Hey I dont drink beer, can i use wine in the sauce? I have a regular barbeque sauce but want to add to mine too. I went to whole foods yesterday to get those mushrooms because of you too! THank you so much!!
HOLD UP HOLD UP.. VEG OIL?? UMMM.. THATS NOT REAL. ITS TOXIC. TRY COCONUT OIL OR SOMETHING THAT MAKES MORE SENSE WHEN YOUR MAKING VEGAN FOOD CHEF. THANKS.
