The most famous sandwich shop in Florence, Italy is bringing its world-renowned paninis to the heart of Manhattan in Times Square. FOX 5 NY's Chrystal Young visited to see what the hype was all about.
That's standard bread in pretty much everywhere in Europe. Especially English-speaking countries like England, Australia, US etc. have no clue about making bread. No idea why.
@@multa7053 they are too busy putting sugar on meat.🙄 Jokes aside, you can find some really good fresh bread in Canada but not that easily as in Europe
@@DS-me7kk Yeah, Canada is a bit more open than US I guess. No idea. I'll find out this year. But it was impossible find good bread in Australia for example.
Florence is one of the most magnificent cities in the world. I absolutely love the Tuscany region. The good, people, weather and of course the history.
Been to Florence 3 times and I've never seen less than... 150-200 people queuing in front of the shop.... they have security people organising the queue!
I had it in 2019 in Florence. Since then I refuse to eat sandwiches. Best I ever had. Beautiful, stunning and gorgeous views, people and of course food 🤩
Napolitan music for a florentin shop,it's like if a italian TV present a video on Boston or Chicago with Dixieland song....😂😂😂😂😂,stereotypes never die.....
Lmfao 🤣 "aren't many things New Yorkers would wait on line for" New Yorkers wait on line for everything! At every descent Pizza, bagels, restaurant there's always a line, sometimes you need to wait an hour just to buy groceries!
I ate this in Florence. It is so worth it. It' sonly about 8 euro last year and it's a big sandwich. It was so delicious -- perfect bread and great ingredients. To bad I don't live in NYC.
Founded in 1991 “It didn’t take long to gather a huge following” when in 2017 they where mentioned on trip advisor being the most reviewed place in the world. 26 years aint a walk through the park. 😂
They didn't have to import it from NY and pay duty, right? Of course it's less expensive. God Bless America and a free market economy. They don't look like they're suffering.
@@agirlinjeans77 Duh... how it's LAYERED is the difference... Chicago Pizza.. Dough, Cheese NO VEGGIES and Sauce on top...better get off the Interwebs before Mom and Dad put you on restriction... IDIOT
@@user-zy3nv1jy1m I know right? It's not as if it's a city of 10,000,000 people where everything costs more. It's almost like we also make more money here too. You'd almost think it's relative, like $20 there equals $12 in Podunk Alabama or wherever you're from. I mean who would spend a few dollars more to have the best of something? It's not a Ferrari vs a Toyota for $200,000 more, it's the best of something for a couple smelly dollars. So keep passing, we don't want you here anyway. I love clowns like you who think you're so smart to not get "ripped off" yet deprive yourself something great for pennies, all while being too much of a dullard to comprehend that cost is relative.
I can’t wait to go! I’m by no means well off but life needs an occasional treat. Certain steakhouses, gelato places etc. This is a pleasure I won’t miss. And btw, inflation is high everywhere, not just New York
I hope the landlord doesn't jack up the rent so customers have to end up paying 50% more because of the greed. Edit: Nevermind, I saw the prices of the sandwiches and it seems like they're already getting price gouged for their rent.
@Andough Same. It's exciting that they're in the US, but I was afraid how prices would compare, particularly with the way all prices are going crazy right now. There's an old video on YT of the original shop in Florence where the prices were then around 5 Euro for the Favolosa. I knew we'd never see that in the US.
is this also forwarded by the bastianich family? since that is their branded wines that were featured. the video didnt say, but theres no way a small family has the inroads to come to nyc to open up a shop..
Oh yes they have the money , the takings would be fantastic in Italy , non stop ques the till never sleeps , any loans would be no problem with their track record
Panera charges well over $10 for a sandwich made out of crap deli meat and fake cheese. So I think that it is fair to pay more for good quality ingredients.
America had this 30 years ago, it was called Schlotsky’s. The bread with air pockets is the bomb. But, the idiot mgmt at that chain decided to go with everyday soggy bread instead and lost it.
Tried 3 different sandwich in their Florence outlet … tbh I prefer Nerbone Beef Sandwich dipped in Jus at Florence Central Market… probably cause I prefer slow cooked braised beef over cured meats
Google their menu.....the prices are out of most people's budget unless it's a treat meal experience. I would not drop $20 on a sandwich that I could make at home with similar quality ingredients for half or a third of the cost.
@@msr1116 that’s the thing it’s not simplifier ingredients it’s fresh meat that should be coming from special meat stores and the bread should be baked freshly nearly every week.
Of course they are it’s a foreign food restaurant but since it’s coming to the us they’re most likely going to go the American way and use cheaper meat and produce.
It’s like that when you import everything, pay taxes and you pay rent in Manhattan. I payed 16/17$ the pastrami sandwich at Katz’ and they do no import anything.
@@giulia2098 Maybe, at Katz's they import the workers? Joking aside, it might be more reasonable to buy your own loaf of bread, slice it into toasts, slap on store bought pastrami and voila! You have your own pastrami sandwich for a fraction of the price!
The Italy shop does not have to import ingredients. Also the rent on the Italy shop is cheaper than rent in central NYC. And a million other differences in cost that are far too obvious to point out.
Almost $20 bucks for a sandwich, holy cow, don't bother coming down south, we ain't paying that for a damned sandwich unless that things got legs and a tail.
I prefer my ham and cheese with tomatoes lettuce and onions with mayo deli mustard salt pepper and vinegar on a lightly toasted hero from my local deli. I just thought that 🇹🇷 and turkeys share the same name and they never had beef . I just seen a video on IG of a grown man that plays for an NBA team threatening a minor and left a comment about the so call athlete acting big on a Lil white kid and my account got shut down . Lmao fuck I care for any of this social crap ... I writing on wall for 20 years and you can't erase that!
Can't be cheap. Cost of living in NY, plus they import all their ingredients. Oh yeah definitely passing that buck to the customers. But for a once in lifetime experience maybe it's worth it.
