The Tauranga Taupo is one of those rivers I fall in love with every time I re visit it. Long Glides and deep pools within easy reach of each other make this a great river to explore. It can get a massive Run of steel head Trout after rain and this is why I went in there. They fight extra hard in the Tauranga Taupo and the Jacks this particular day were in fantastic condition. I hope you enjoy.

Looks like late winter for you fellows, we are going into fall here in New England, just a month away! It will be spring for you! Its on my bucket list that is for sure!

Yup almost spring now my friend and the start of the summer season is around the corner. If yo ever try to get here George then try for later September. That means you will have the Taupo Winter Fishery to play with and then also from the start of October you have the rest of NZ, (well 98% of it anyway) open for you to explore. It is a great time of the year. Good luck over Winter, I think you are going to have a nasty one. Tight lines mate.

Haven't fished the TT for ten years. Used to fish it every week in winter. Judging by your vid the size of the fish are much smaller than they used to be.

Man great tip about the plate! I never thought of that for some reason but I tend to hook most of my fish either in the tip of the top jaw or right inside the roof of their mouths

I have to run back a LOT because when I hook fish I'm often standing in the middle of the river and the fish come straight for me, and I usually fish 2 hook droppers so there's always one hook floating around that could go in my leg if the fish swims through my legs or close to them

It's a great pool bro, we filmed some of the Pure Fly series on it earlier this year. Always holds a lot of fish!

Hey mate. I didn't see your post, snuck in huh :) Yes it has changed from last year. The true left is really deep all the way down, (mostly snag free) with really deep water at the head of it. It really looked fishy to me. The Tauranga Taupo is a magic river bud. Hmmm Pure Fly series huh. I'll look out for that. We still need to go for a fish sometime. I have a special river for you if you think you are fit enough :) Give me a call if you are interested.

Hey Bruce. This piece of water is refereed to as the" Rock Wall" It is a great looking piece of water.

Its amazing. I spent a lot of time on the river a few years back. Major Jones was my home pool... But I also like right below the Hwy 1 bridge before the big rains changed the river.
