@GodHatesWar I would also recommend Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising! The developers of World in Conflict consulted many concepts and ideas from that book for this game.

The Chinese-Soviet alliance in the game would've been impossible: the Sino-Soviet Split in the 60s/70s prevented them from ever talking nice to each other other than bashing the West....

Not many people know that during the Cold War, much like the Cuban missile crisis with the U.S, China and the Soviet Union were once at a point where they were very close to engaging in nuclear war. If you've ever seen Red Dawn, when they ask weren't there a billion screaming Chinese on our side and the downed pilot it's says more like a million now, that's what they mean.

Well yeah, no internet back then to keep up with world relations like we do today, but everyone knew about the Sino-Soviet Split in the 60s, one way or another. Red Dawn and WiC have different storylines regarding China: RD has them being nuked by the Soviets (probably because of the tensions between them) while WiC sees the USSR And the PRC as allies which is sort of unrealistic unless in that timeline, they patched up their differences

There needs to be a movie made about World in Conflict. Bringing out ALL the stops for this one. Loved the game and the Soviet Assault expansion pack. Massive budget needed to make it, even if it becomes a (multi-part) fan movie retelling the story, or a possible fan sequel to it.

Regardless, the USSR is bound to collapse on itself very soon in the WiC universe. They were already in deep shit before invading Western Europe, and soon they won't be able to keep with with NATO's ability to supply the war effort. Their fall is inevitable, only nuclear war and MAD remains. There will never be a WiC 2 because it would only last a few minutes before the Soviets realize their futility and launch their warheads.

Awesome video really portrayed how I thought this game was. I loved it, such good gameplay but evern after a round or two it makes you sit back and think "What if it did happen". Love the music though, just makes you wanna fall on your knees and scream "NOOOOOOOOOOooooooo" :D

@BlueCloneTrooper521 Well there is an option to change the pixel quality from 360 to 480. Perhaps he should of done that first. I wouldn't know anything about online servers, I don't play this game anymore. It's dead in my country, but there should be a few popular European and American servers.

@BizWiz2000 The USN was banged up pretty bad. The bulk of it was in Europe, and the 7th fleet was no longer much of a 'fleet' and engaged in other naval conflicts. The Soviets snuck past the USN using hundreds of freighters; with the weakened and distracted state of the 7th fleet, I don't see why it couldn't happen. For logistics, it's the same, the 7th is too tied down to be able to efficiently attack supply lines, not to mention the possible foraging for food in Seattle by the Soviets.

@BizWiz2000 A nuclear strike is only a viable option when a conventional war isn't possible to win or done so with heavy losses on both sides. They even included such a scene in a game to annihilate part of the Soviet invasion force. Things aren't going so well in Afghanistan, do you think they'll nuke that because they aren't making any progress or because conventional tactics don't really apply?

Sorry to inform you but the Sierra and Massive studios have both shut down and the possibility of a new sequel is very unlikely, all we can hope for is for another studio to pick up the game.

@Marshall1816 1 Abrams has indeed been immobilized by an RPG but that was a very lucky hit, Normally an Abrams can survive up to 10 or 9 RPG hits before it would be completely destroyed, the only advantage of the t-90 is the Auto Loader (witch fire rate is slow)

Road to berlin and battle for berlin is different. Road to Berlin was, when 2 russian generals were racing who will come to berlin first, they both had ~1m troops, germans were retreading mainly, but at Seelow Heights they deployed ~100k troops and set up defencives.

True, but winning a war just isn't as simple as having more people. You could have ten times as many soldiers as your opponents, but if you lack the means to deploy, supply and support all of those soldiers in the field, they won't do you a whole lot of good. A military is an organization, and deploying all available forces at once in many different locations would be the ultimate logistical nightmare.

the levels where your in the 'burbs reminded me a little of some of the urban missions from WiC, I thought the whole Washington part in COD6 was a bit gimmicky, I thought it was pretty cool when they fired off that EMP though.

Just a technicallity, while you are correct, it is also important to note that the Germans switched targets from airfields to cities during the Battle of Britain as well as after. Once they realized the initiative was lost, Goering concentrated on cities to scare the Brits. But yes everything you said is correct

I like how realistic this game is compared to most other RTS games... in alot of RTS games, you have 10 foot tall soldiers running around maps, bases and other equipment building itself on screen in seconds... in this game... I guess the best way I can put it is that if you took the camera of a game like Battlefield and put took it about 50 feet above the map, you would see World in Conflict lol.

I need some help. I have it downloaded and installed and everything, in fact I installed it twice but when I play the game 10 minutes in a skirmish the thing crashes, so I try the campaign, and after the old dude talks on the first level, again, it crashes. I have no Idea what it could be, because I can play it just fine no lag at all, but I'm guessing it might be the fact that it's windows 7 incompatible. I've patched it up to v1.010, and it still crashes. So what the hell is wrong with it?!

@chrisfur2 Not calling you a liar but I've been to nearly 5 sites and they only list Michael Kamen as the composer for Band of Brothers, if he did in-fact work on the soundtrack then obviously they'd make that known on all sources that sell the ost.

@AlienFirefox LOL! No they do not! America has 6 times as many aircraft as Russia, and almost 6 times as many aircraft as China. US has 7 times as many Navy ships as Russia, and 11 times as many Navy ships as China. The only thing I agree with you on is the fact that China has about 2 to 3 times as many infantry as the US, but infantry don't matter against high-technology tanks and AH's.

@AlienFirefox they lost massive amounts of soliders in ratios compared to the USA , After regrouping , the USA pushed that superior force back to the 38th par. then back and forth until a cease fire, but no peace treaty of course. The PRC put over 926,000 soliderse into that war and lost around 400,000 (US Estimates) the US lost 36,516 of its roughly 480,000 deployed .. thats quite a ratio difference.

It's just a game. A fun one that's well done. Set back in the 1980s. No "propaganda". Nobody buys this believe such things are still going to happen and be prepared or something. Now the U.S government, that's a different issue. But this was just an RTS game that's really good.

@notessimodude Look up the systems the Chinese fighter jet has inside of it. It has close to the same technologies and design the F-22 has. ALL countries would like to be the top dog, then they wouldn't have to worry about any other countries much. It's a common thing, it's not like a country like Italy would hate being the strongest country in the world. Russia, China, Germany, Japan, etc certainly wouldn't mind. Althought it's highly unlikely for most countries.

Yeah, I know. Still, it deserves a sequel so badly! It would be a sin for nobody to make an honest effort to revive efforts make a sequel. This game is more than worthy of one. I mean this game was a huge success. They need to make a sequel, somebody needs to give a really good studio the rights to it so it can finally happen. The war's not over, they can't stop now.

@BizWiz2000 Depends if they're eliminated the fallout associated with nukes if so.. then it becomes a much more logical option. Although it would be good to occupy such a place if most of it is in ruins/destroyed.

@yamakashii @yamakashii It should be Warsaw Pact. It was equivalent to NATO for countries under Soviet Union influence. It was singed in Warsaw in May 15 1955 and that's why it was called Warsaw Pact. Check Wikipedia for more details.
