European leaders and energy experts are expected to call for a nuclear revival during a meeting in Brussels.
Leaders have gathered for the UN Atomic Agency's first-ever Nuclear Energy Summit.
They're seeking to rebuild the European industry after years of gradual decline.
The two-day meeting comes as the push for nuclear power as a clean alternative to fossil fuels gains momentum.
Al Jazeera's Colin Baker explains what's behind the new wave of nuclear enthusiasm and Hashem Ahelbarra is monitoring the latest developments at the summit in Brussels.

People think how can nuclear power to be clean energy yet the waste can't be disposed????

Most 'waste' can be recycled and turned back into material that can power nuclear reactors. The rest is put into long and thin cylinders that, given time, would again become functional as material for powering the reactors.

@amesnfire1098 it cant be disposable because its toxic...how is that clean????

@@user-nz5dh6qq5x3% of waste is actual nuclear fuel byproduct. And that can be reused. The rest are materials that have been in touch with nuclear fuel. The only nuclear catastrophe that we had is Chernobyl, Three Mile and Fukushima are nothing compared to that. Chernobyl was a practical example of a dirty bomb. We should stop demonizing nuclear energy, because this came from demonizing nuclear weapons. I am in no business of advocating for weapons. But the very safe and clean and energy dense source of electricity, yes. Renewables will bring us to new Imperialism because industrial world will be as thirsty as ever for raw materials, if we want to electrify everything and expand the production of renewables and the storage capacity for that energy.

Solar and wind produces power when the sun is shining or wind is blowing not when you want. You cannot effectively match supply and demand, with nuclear you can move the rods and spool up the turbine halls to meet demand near instantaneously without requiring huge energy storage infrastructure. For solar and wind, when you can't produce energy at the right time you resort to coal or gas. France now has the cheapest energy in western Europe and Germany the most. Clowns
