Quick tip, if you want to have a better look at what you're doing when you're for example changing the moisture and such in the quick texture macro, if you look on the left side of World machine, you see a "heirarchy" sort of list. When you're in 3d view you can double click those to open their settings, which allows you to edit them while in the 3d view. It's real neat, so you dont have to do any guesswork based on the tiny minimap in the top left! (Most people know this of course)

The only thing I have to add to this video is the Quick Texture macro doesn't work with tiled terrains. I looked into the macro and how it was built and a few of the components arent compatible with tiled terrains. Other than that this was a great video and it definitely helped me in defining my map. Thank you Art of Lincoln Hughes!

I did twitch a little from "first thing you need to do is set map size" [2 minutes later] "now that you know the map size disregard it until the last step" but otherwise a very cool workflow!

how i can export the exact same map showing in world machine ? i tried hieghtmap, ok so than bitmap or what ? you ended this tutorial with open question...please what files i need to become exact map as in world machine into unreal, thakns sir

You double click the heightmap, export it. Now run Unreal, go on the landscape creation menu, in the heightmap section you can import a file. Select the file you created with world machine, you should be able to do the same with the diffuse. Click on create and enjoy.

@@Kavriel i can only add one material to landscape, where i have to put diffuse ? i need to make a new material ? why is tthis so complex. i button = finish ? only height map woriking with one button, color you have to work itself ? makes no sence. thanks for reply. i the devs can make this color material with one click, this program will be the next gamechanger in this 3d world !

I have a question: What is the difference between the resolutions (14:30) ? I don´t understand this. I have the free version of World-Machine. Max Res. is 1025px. Is this the reason the mountains and hills look a little bit edgy in my maps? All in all it looks good but small elevations look a bit pointed. Or is this because of settings in UE5? Can I compensate the lower resolution in WM-Free completely with Unreal Engine?

Unfortunately, no... The resolution will play an overall massive role in making sure that your landscape asset looks high-res. Maybe if you made a smaller landscape it would work? i.e. one that was exactly 1.025 km, so that the resolution would make sense with the size of the landscape.

@@ArtofLincolnHughes Thanks! Maybe it will make a difference. I now have a smaller Landscape but I don´t know if it works better because it´s more flat. Do you know if it´s possible to change the "Overall Resolution" in UE5 after creating the Landscape? I cannot find out what the resolution is. I can only see it while creating new landscape in UE5.

I tried the demo (and I absolutely loved it) but I didn't like how the resolution looked blurry (as per the Demo)... Is this the Indie version, or Pro version? I'm trying to decide if I HAVE to buy the more expensive version the get the higher resolution like yours.... Can you lemme know which version you have here?

Yeah, you definitely need the full version to get higher res (the video is the purchased version) - not 100 percent sure, but I think the max resolution with the trial is 1024x1024.

Unfortunately World Machine is a paid product, so it limits render resolution unless you buy it.

Hello, I am a beginner, I am very lucky to see your tutorial, but I have questions about this process. This is "Quick texture". This macro was not found in the macro list. So I want to ask if this macro is built by you or is it included in the version?

xu guangwen it’s included in the latest experimental standard version for world machine, but in case you’re missing it upon download, I’ve included it in the Gumroad project files

I think it has to do with the resolution. With the free version you're limited to 512pix if I remember correctly.

How many maps I need to export to use with your automaterial tool for UE?

it comes with 7 material layers, 3 textures for each (albedo, normal, and channel mask textures), so for whichever ones you want to replace with new ones, you'll need a texture set per layer.

short answer - sadly not. The generation of the terrain takes place in WM so the res can't increase after that. A solution I use to fix this is export at the highest res you can go and decrease the size of the terrain by a lot. Then you can export each piece individually (by shifting them over) and the stitch all the parts in something like photoshop or gimp. Its a pain in the ass process, but I've gotten resolutions up to 32k with the free version with it.

akaBez hmmm weird, maybe the experimental version. I’ll take a look tonight and get back to you. I might be able to export the macro out and include it in the demo files for those that aren’t using the same version as me

I made an auto landscape master material a few months back that comes with the tutorials and all that, basically removing the need for shader creation and all the technical side of integration into UE4 if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bqe9uB3krS0.html , but it basically relies on your purchase of it to function... Maybe one day i'll create another full tutorial on how to create a shader that's perfect for world machine stuff though, as it's a really good idea :)

yeah that should be fine. I put that more so that if a company downloads it and uses it in their game that they're selling, they'd have to buy the commercial version :)

boriscassata it’s only for importing into unreal 4 as a landscape height map. Most image software won’t import that file format - raw16.

Quick Texture does not seem to work with 3014 Mt Daniel 64bit I opened the maco and found an unknown device node that I could not identify. ;(

hmmmm weird.... Try using the basic coverage macro instead, should come with default World Machine and basically works the same. Try one of the presets there and hook it up the same in the graph, should work fine. If you want to send me a screenshot of the missing node in the macro as well, i could take a look at it. ​@@ArtofLincolnHughes I don't know if someone tryed this thing... open the "macro" and find the actual texture maps updated! like Wear, Deposition, all input maps in "macro" after the texturing creation. So in this way we gonna have the Albedo, and Masks precisally updated! And not catch the texture one node before the new changes. Because if not do that, is less precise... is like export the terrain before the erosion node! Of course i think this method only will work if the creator of macro, think about that, and project the macro to allow this in a easy way! Anyway... congratulations for your promotion, i saw your interview was very nice! The World Machine allow us to export a Mesh too, maybe if you have plan to update the landscape material, maybe a Mesh Material gonna be great for your pack, like the Online maps of Battlefield, just 2x2 km of real terrain and the rest is Static mesh of terrain and Billboards. Here in Brazil we love big maps, we don't have money to buy better hardwares, but a massive world is phenomenal

Luciano Jacomeli yeah you could pretty easily create outputs inside of the macro that will give you access to those maps, I just didn’t think it was that relevant for the purpose of the tutorial.. I’m pretty sure they’re actually just taking the same info from the erosion node and maybe clamping it a bit then colorizing it anyways, so it’s probably not changing it that much. I’ll investigate further :) As for the prop material, what’s your email? I’ll send you a free copy :) on my gumroad, there’s also some vista mountains in there for free as well if you’re interested. I’ve been meaning to make a tutorial that shows exactly how to export vista meshes from World-Machine too, so maybe I’ll do that next. Thanks for the info man!

Unfortunately you need to purchase the software to get a higher resolution than 512x512

can you make a video, where you make the Grasslands in World Machine, like the texture etc? and put it inside the Material. how did you get the macro variation in the red channel at grasslands? that i dont understand :P

you're talking about the auto landscape material grasslands channel mask texture? The red channel for that is literally just the macro-variation texture that they used in the kite demo, I just copied it into the red channel of the texture in photoshop.

send a screen of your node graph in world machine to lincolnhughes@hotmail.com . It's probably something to do with your height output settings, so open that node's settings and take a screen and send that too k

world machine isnt for free. Go find free alternatives if u dont want to pay the money. alot of money for high res. Also you wont find "quick texture" under Macros.

Just depends on your workflow. Being able to hammer out a high-quality, gigantic terrain in under 20 minutes definitely makes it relevant to not just me personally, but any artistic industry as a whole.

@@ArtofLincolnHughes Agreed. I will say that I do find WC2 easier to work with, but it could be because I'm more visual. I do seem to be having some difficulty getting the splatmap channels to work in WC2, where it appears to be a much simpler process on how you select custom outputs in WM.

@@ArtofLincolnHughes World Machine is nice for big mountains or small scale landscape. It's a nightmare if you plan to use it to make a large open world map with beach, river, moutains, valley, etc.
