It used to be even better when it was a 1/2 mile track. Saw Clint Boyer race there in the early '00's but he couldn't beat a local by the name of Brian Birkhofer who used to own this track. West Liberty Iowa also has a good track but went from weekly to twice a month
For years ive driven from se Wisconsin to Omaha every month and seen many a late model in tow around the quad cities up to Cedar Rapids. Now i KNOW where THEY were going. Now i KNOW where I AM GOING! Man this track…
It's hard to believe that they built this smaller track for the slower weekly classes at Davenport. Now they don't even use the 1/2 mi. anymore and this video showed why.
For a good number of years they were doing the weeklies on a 1/4 mile and a couple of special events like this on the 1/2 mile but that made the 1/4 mile track less than optimal in turns 1 and 4. A few years back the Board for the Mississippi Valley Fair, which has a couple of racing fans on it, redid the grandstand seating and concessions and decided it would be better to shut down the 1/2 mile track and make a proper 1/4 mile so they completely rebuilt the 1/4 mile and it was the right decision because the track is a lot faster, has more racing grooves and the races in events like these are so much better. Still kind of miss that old 1/2 mile though, I grew up watching races on it every Friday night during the racing season and then going up to West Liberty on Saturday night, another good 1/2 mile dirt track.
This is an awesome track and a great event. Went all 3 days last year. My only wish is that they would do it on a weekend where Lucas Oil series isnt running a 50K to win event that 90% of the big names are at. Imagine this event with guys like Davenport, B-Shepp, McCreadie, Marlar, Overton, Madden, Fergy, Etc running in it......
@@stephentrimmoutdoors5567 How do they run both series when there in two different locations? If one series is off that weekend but it don't happen much.
