The Death Star on the Mannerheim Line? A Finnish fortification built to defend against the Russians by a Finnish Field Marshall with a German-sounding name who was actually Swedish.
History is hard.

One thing Jingles fails to realise is that even with the ammunition buff, it's still impossible to kill all tanks in a practical scenario. 20 rounds of ammunition is simply not enough in the 1v29 games that are ever so common in random battles.

Except that no Pz. IV saw service on Karelian front and Finnish armed forces didn't have any before the "Mannerheim line" collapsed in 1944. www.porsimo.net/fb/info/armored.htm Here's a good article on Finnish armored forces during WW2. Pay no attention to last column tho as Finland and USSR signed peace treaty in september of 1944.

To add to the complexity of history, Mannerheim also served in Russian army before becoming the commander of the Finnish army. But that was the Imperial Russian army and not the Soviet army the Mannerheim Line was constructed to defend against. Are we confused yet? :D edit: And about that Panxer IV wreck in the map. During the Continuation War against the Soviets (June 1941 - September 1944) Finland bought 15 Pz IV Ausf J:s from Germany, so those tanks could have appeared in the map, even though in practise the tanks never got to see action in that front.

Actually Jingles! Mannerheim was born in Finland (born 4 June 1867) when Finland (Finland became part of Russia in 1809) was part of Russia so he'd be Russian. He also server in Russian army. BUT he choose return to Finland when Finland declared itself independent and that way he got Finnish citizenship. Yes his familys aristochratic roots are in Sweden but that doesn't make him a Swedish person. Oh and his ancestor emigrated to Sweden from Germany... so... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Gustaf_Emil_Mannerheim I suggest you read the wiki on him :) And one more thing, Finland did have Panzer IV tanks during WW2, though none made it to the eastern front, so a fair point that none of them should be on that Mannerhein Line map. But they were "used" in some extend when Finland had to drive out the Germans from Lapland after the peace treaty with the Soviets in 1944-45, a war called Lapland War. Cheers!

Jingles, put your shotgun away and listen carefully because I say this only once: Carl Gustaf was named after factory → Carl Gustaf Stads Gevärsfaktori. Name of that factory means "Weapons Factory of Carl Gustaf's town" and refers to the Eskilstuna town which received city privileges from Swedish king Karl X Gustav. It means that Carl Gustaf was named after Swedish king, not Swedish baron.

Steamrick it's nice to carry a few rounds of AP for those times when a superheavy is sitting on 700-1000 ish HP where you just want to secure the kill instead of splashing for 500 damage. But yeah, it's a platform for firing HESH. If you don't carry a lot of HESH you're playing it wrong.

HE(SH) doesnt lose pen ;)
@Th3HuntingShadow
@Th3HuntingShadow 6 лет назад
There are some areas around the gun mantlet that he could've penned, especially under the mantlet. Or Hesh just did its thing and penned the roof
@jameshanks5417
@jameshanks5417 6 лет назад
high explosive shells dont lose penetration over distance. Also it is entirely possible he didnt penetrate fully, even if the angle of the armor allowed for greater than 230 plus or minus 25% massive damage would still be dealt. Ex. KV2 152mm gun 86mm penetration HE, hits a tiger 100mm front hull armor flat 300 to 600 damage could still be expected.
@piggy201
@piggy201 6 лет назад
The concern wasnt with losing pen at distance, rather that penetrating Lowe with 230 frontally with the limited ability to aim at weakpoints at the distance is very lucky. Also I am pretty sure it had to be a pen, not just splash.
@timeforgottenprince8271
@timeforgottenprince8271 6 лет назад
HESH, like HE and HEAT, often travel at a significantly slower velocity than any type of AP and APCR. Because of this, they tend to have to be fired in an arc. What most likely happened was that the HESH either hit a part of the Lowe's turret that was flat, or it hit the upper glacis, but because of the arc causing the shell to land from above, enough of the sloping of the upper glacis was negated to allow the HESH shell to pen for full damage. Oh, and of course, rng gave him enough pen to go through in the first place.

So I was browsing the internet when I discovered there are quite a few places where you can basically rent a tank to drive around. Apparently one called Drive-A-Tank has a Chieftain MBT. It is in Minnesota, USA. For something closer to the UK, The Irish Military War Museum has an option to drive around an APC, it is in Ireland.

I don't know Jingles, though the FV 4005 might be the size of the Eiffel Tower and it has armor that a person's fart could penetrate, it has good mobility and it has a 180 degree firing arc, and that AP round ... Still, though I would have liked to have gotten the FV 215B 183, the FV 4005 doesn't look that bad to me, not to mention the Charioteer and the Conway are on the way to it, both of which I am eager to get, especially the Charioteer; a cromwell with a tier 10 medium tank gun? Yes please. However, I am glad that I managed to get the Foch 155 before it became a reward-ish tank; ammo racking Wz 111-14s by firing HE at their undercarriage is quite fun I have to admit.

Hey, he did add the disclaimer that the name simply stuck, and that it's not shit anymore. It absolutely 100% used to be complete shit though. The aimtime, mobility, even the reload used to be far worse. That thing was absolute shit. No armor and bad camo means it's only good in situations where you can pop out and ambush when enemies are distracted/reloading, but the old mobility and weapon handling meant you had to sit in the open for AGES waiting for it to aim before you could fire. It was shit.

Jingles, the Finns operated Panzer IVs. Not in the Winter War, but as the Mannerheim line shifted into Soviet hands during the Karelian Offensive it's not impossible to see a Panzer IV there. Also, Mannerheim was born in Askainen, Finland when it was in the Russian Empire as the Grand Duchy of Finland. His ancestor was from Germany and emigrated to what was the Swedish Empire, which later became part of the Russian Empire and then finally Finland. Now that we've toured Europe, let's all go to Moscow and pick up some vodka while we're at it.

Germany actually did export some panzer iv's to Finland (it was something of an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation for Finland).

Oh, Jingles, German Tanks were well present at the Mannerheim line, The Germans lent a bunch of StuGs and Pzkpfw III and IVs to finland to use against Russia in the Winter and Continuation wars, thus the knocked out Pzkpfw IV on the map

Mr jingles, Finland bought 30 panzer 4 from Germany during ww2, although they only delivered about half of these. The Finns also purchased a number of other German fighting vehicles... the stug iii at Bovington is another example.

Little technicality: Carl Gustav is not a rocket launcher. It's a recoilless rifle, re-usable anti-tank weapon, with quite effective anti-personal capablities as well 👍🏻

Jingles. I love watching and listening to you. So chilled out. I wish you were my grand pop. Don’t get offended, you’re old and I don’t have grandparents anymore. I watch you when I’m going to bed. I get to watch what I like, and her a cool chilled out dude.

Those two TDs were only safe because artillery has't moved to lover right corner, as it's a balance between taking a good aim at some spot and changing a position, many choose to stay put, as most SPGs are not exactly fast. Also it's pretty clear why "Death Star" was targeted by opposing artillery - guys in lower right corner are in cower, until they drive around the rock.

The gun that Destroyed Ulderan, encased within a children's lunchbox strapped to an autonomous electric scooter . . . Surprisingly effective.

Hey, I actually get to say it! *ahem!* Actually Jingles, Finland had used German tanks (as well as captured Soviet tanks) during WWII; Finland was given only about 15 PzIV Ausf Js, but they had 59 StuG IIIs as well (wracking up an impressive 87 Soviet tank kills to just 8 lost StuGs). As I recall, Finland was one of the few nations that fought on both the Axis and Allied sides in the war.

Jingles, Äctshually, the Finns purchased quite a few german tanks (especially Stugs) during the Continuation War. So, while it may be a rare sight, the Pz.IV wreck does have some historic plausability

The Pz.IV of Army Group North who were on the Leningrad frontline were closer than 1000 miles of the Mannerheim line. A few hundred miles at most, it's just that there was a bunch of Soviets between them and the Finns.

Slow the video down to .25 speed at 2:15 and look at that shot on the Lowe again. Shell clearly impacts the upper front plate but yet goes straight through the tank.

Mannerheim was Finnish and spoke swedish, he also was presiden in Finland from 1944-1946. And by the way finding Finns speaking Swedish is like finding canadians speaking frensh.

Jingles, Im pretty sure Germans supplied the Finns with some armor as well as other equipment. Not 100% sure about the winter war, but certainly by the time of continuation war, thats why they were fighting with StuGs by that time. That could certainly explain Panzer (fighting around that area toward middle/end of WWII).

Mannerheim was born in Finland, during the time when it was a Russian Grand Duchy, as part of the Swedish speaking minority. He got his military training and served for the Russian army for thirtry years until Finland got tired of being Russians and left. I just finished reading the book "Finlands sex krig" ("Finlands six wars", only avaiable in Swedish I think.) about Mannerheim and Finlands history as a free and independent country. He fought for Russia in the war between Russia and Japan and later the first World War before he left for Finland and fought agains the Soviet Union in two wars and against Gemany later on. I can recomend the movies "Framom främsta linjen" (English title "Beyond enemy lines"), "Tali-Ihantala 1944" and "Talvisota" ("The winter war") as quite good films made in Finland about the war.

By the way, no one seems to realize that the first and only potentially "missed" shot at the beginning against the Löwe in fact didnt miss, but hit a Caernarvon which was unspotted in the background.
