The elf that is dying is a Night Elf, Sylvanas used to be a High Elf, as you know them today, Blood Elf. She knows her name because she was the warchief of the Horde. I Warcraft RTS game, Arthas (The Lich King) was trying to revive a powerful mage and needed the fountain of power of the Elves, Sylvanas being the Ranger General of Silvermoon protected their city to her last breath but was a rock on Arthas shoes so to speak, when he finally defeated her, she asked for a swift death but Arthas told her that after all the trouble she gave him, she wouldn't be getting that, so he killed her, raised her and made her kill her own people. YAI! Warbringers! You need to see Jaina's and Aszhara's too. Also keep in mind the new ones. Afterlives but that after WoW Shadowlands.
It's sad that she held the position of Ranger General for such a short time, after the death of her mother during the second war, along with her brother. Followed almost immediately by the loss of her elder sister on the orc homeworld. All that loss certainly became fuel for her hope is nothing beliefs during her undeath. Kind of no wonder she turned out this way. Sira Nightglaive did nearly the same thing after she was killed and raised by one of Sylvanas' Val'kyr.

Great reaction again, very excited for the other warbringers! And yes, that was the Lich King. He actually killed Sylvanas back during the original Warcraft games and she became a banshee. She ended up leading the Forsaken (Undead not controlled by the Lich King) and joined the Horde. She later took back over her body hence why she no longer looks like a ghost
I think that video is overwhelming for new people, can't really recomend it. Somebody else watched it recently, and that person understood some things but it was clear on her face that it was a bit too much.
The quest for alliance players after this was brutal. We had to try to fight the fire and evacuate as many innocents as possible with a timer. It was a futile quest where you just couldn’t do much. Blizzard went all out to just crush our souls that day 😂

Night Elves are I guess the progenitors of the elven race in Warcraft. The High Elves (pre-undeath Sylvanas) used to be the Highborne caste of the Night Elves who traveled to the Eastern continent after the Sundering. The Night Elves had the strongest empire 10,000 years ago but due to the actions of their Highborne queen, Azshara, who made a deal with Sargeras, the Titan leader of the Burning Legion, to bring his army of demons onto Azeroth through the Night Elves' Well of Eternity. This was the first war with the Legion where Malfurion and Tyrande (current leader of the Night Elves), Illidan, the Demigods and the Dragon Flight Aspects fought against the Legion and Azshara. This ended with the destruction of the Well of Eternity which then caused the Sundering (the splitting of the continent into four: Kalimdor, Northrend, Pandaria and the Eastern Kingdoms. The remnants of the Night Elven Highborne then traveled to the Eastern Kingdoms to practice their magic as the Night Elves took up Druidism. These Highborne then became the High Elves. 10,000 years later, they will be massacred by the Undead Scourge led by the Lich King to pave the way for the Legion's second coming. The survivors of this massacre produced two new factions of elves: the current High Elves (Alliance) and the Blood Elves (Horde).
Hey G-Mineo, nice reaction, once more :) To give you a glimpse of Sylvanas' backstory => as you saw in that view, she was an elve once, a leader and protector of her people (btw: she has 2 sisters, Vereesa and Alleria Windrunner). The scene you watched was the invasion of the undead army (the Lich King and the scourge) into her homeland. The Lich King (Arthas) killed her - and raised her as an undead banshee, to serve him (robbed off her own will). That's how she became what she is now (the Banshee Queen). At some point in time, the Lich King's control over her got to lose, and she was able to free herself from his power. She swore to do anything to get her revenge on him for what he has done to her. She became the leader of all undead, and they united together as "The Forsaken". The Forsaken became then part of the "Horde". Shortly later the Lich King was defeated (by the WoW players) - and Sylvanas "came too late" but at least found him dead and therefore got her revenge. As justice was done, she decided to put an end to her life as a banshee and committed suicide by jumping from the peak of Ice Crown Citadel down into Saronit spikes, which would kill her undead being. But it was for the Valkyrs (ex servants of the Lich King) that she got "paused" - and the Valkyrs showed her that she wouldn't get relief & peace (as she hoped), but gave her a glimpse into her future afterlife: endless pain and agony. The Valkyrs offered a pact: she would get back to life (still a banshee though) and will be bound to the sisterhood of the Valkyrs. She wouldn't die as long as they live, and they would bound them to Sylvanas to get free from the Lich King binding they had. For her committed suicide right now, one of the Valkyrs would take the place in the afterlife for her. Sylvanas was so terrified from what she saw for her afterlife that she made the deal - and so, she was able to live on. This moment predefined the rest of her life from then on: She was willing to do ANYTHING to avoid the destiny of her afterlife in pain and agony. That was/is her only goal. For sure, she now was "unkillable" because of her pact with the Valkyrs, but that not forever. Each time she would die, she would lose at least one of the Valkyr because they had to take place in the afterlife instead of her. So, that "resource" was limited. Since then she looked for any chance to "extend the resource", and of course, avoid getting killed. The latter was not that easy as she had enemies, of course - even inside the Forsaken. She got killed 2 times more and lost some of the Valkyrs. Subsequently, this just raised her need for another solution to avoid her destiny even more. You saw the cinematic of WoW "Legion" where she appeared on the Horde-gunship and stood up to fight together with King Varian of the "Alliance" against their common enemy, the Burning Legion. Later, during the Legion invasion, Varian died, as well as the Warchief of the Horde, Vol'jin died. From then on, Sylvanas became the new war chief, and therefore the leader of the Horde. After defeating the Legion, the old war between Horde and Alliance broke up again. The burning of Life-Tree, you witnessed, happened in this war (as you saw Sylvanas sayin' "This is war"). It was during that war that she made a new deal - and the value she had to deliver was .... an endless number of souls! The war against the Alliance was perfect to do so - and escalating it by burning the tree of the elves was just a "welcome" moment. Does this make her the "big evil"? It looks like, right? But only at the first sight. But I will stop here to don't give you story spoilers.
So a bit of backstory about these elves.. The 'good' elf is a Night Elf who are part of the Alliance, and that giant tree Teldrassil is their home. Sylvanas was a High Elf back when the Lich King invaded their homeland. When she was turned into an undead she eventually joined the Horde to lead the rest of her fellow undead after breaking free from the control of the Lich King (naming her people Forsaken, who were from all kinds of backgrounds - Elvish like herself, Human, etc - most of them killed during the invasion of the Lich King and his Scourge). On top of that, the Horde also has Blood Elves among their ranks who used to be High Elves, but most of them took the name Sin'dorei (Blood Elves) to honour their brethren who fell to the Lich King and these Blood Elves are now allied with the Horde. High Elves and Blood Elves don't get along even though they are physically identical, because High Elves are mostly those who didn't agree with this new direction the Blood Elves were taking and either left or were exiled from their kingdom of Quel'thalas. In fact, many of the High Elves are now aligned with the Alliance (for example the Silver Covenant members in Dalaran), as the High Elves had previously fought alongside the pre-Alliance Human kingdoms against the Trolls and the Orcish Horde in the Second War. The biggest difference between High/Blood Elves and Night Elves are the skin colours, as Night Elves have blue or purple skin, and hair that can range from green to purple to blue, but the other Elves have skin and hair colours closer to real life Humans. If your brain isn't exploding already, then read up on the other Elven races and Allied Races - Nightborne, Highborne and Void Elves, and Sylvanas' two sisters Vereesa Windrunner and Alleria Windrunner, who were also rangers like Sylvanas except they didn't get killed by the Lich King. These two sisters are part of the Alliance now, and considering Sylvanas used to be the Warchief of the Horde (highest position) - and separated from her sisters by undeath - you can see how uncomfortable Christmas dinner must have been in the Windrunner's household!
It was said in the cinematic but just to drive it home: Sylvannas slaughtered *countless* (not even exaggerating there) civilians by burning down that tree. Imagine if someone set off several nukes in a nation's capital *and* the surrounding cities and there were maybe a couple thousand survivors at best. *That* is what she did. That tree is the capital of the Night Elves. Their entire nation revolved around that tree. Sure, there are other towns and cities but that tree held the densest population.
This actually is kinda a sad story - she was defending her people against dire odds and failed, was raised as a fucking mind controlled zombie, then managed to break free, wanted revenge, got revenge, commited suicide only to realise the hell is waiting for her of the other side. Knowing there's no peace for her, she struck a deal with the main guy of this "Hell" and pretty much serves death only to not die and get stronger to - again - not die. She reminds me of an old dictator, which I'm very familiar with as I live in mother Russia.
It's interesting, since they retconed how death works now, I highly doubt she was sent directly to the maw. So I don't understand how she met the jailor, since most likely she was supposed to arive in revendreth or something. Even Arthas, the only reason he got into the maw was because he was literaly taken there in secret by Uther.
@@voiavictor She was sent to the maw where she saw arthas right after her suicide, as stated in the novel. Then the Val'kyr came to her and saved her from this hell, binding them to her. But that's not when she met the Jailor. We know she made a pact with Helya, that's probably where everything started with the Jailor. The supposed reason her soul went there is because of frostmourne. Contrary to Uther or Therenas, she was raised with the remaining of her soul still there.
They weren't aiming for the roots of the tree (Teldrassil) on purpose because fire burns upwards, but because the tree is so damn big that their catapults literally couldn't get the projectiles any higher...that tree's probably 300+ stories tall, and big enough around that you could drop the state of Rhode Island into its branches comfortably. It's a *big* tree. The night elves capital city, as well as several of their smaller villages and a refuge for the Worgen, were in that tree. There was actually an in-game event for Alliance players to try to rescue as many night elves as possible from the capital city (Darnassus) as the city burns down around you. That's why this was such a war crime for Sylvanas, she committed straight-up genocide against the night elves when she burned down Teldrassil. The closest pop-culture comparison I can think of would be the destruction of Home Tree in James Cameron's Avatar movie.
as people have pointed out, the tree is the night elves home. Sylvanas was a high elf (not same as night elf), got turned into a banshee by the lich king as you saw and eventually turned on him, yada yada yada she became leader of the forsaken (undeads) and "now" leader of the horde cuz forsaken are part of the horde. Her story is covered back in warcraft 3
Sylvanas is a HIGH elf, the dying elf is a NIGHT elf....they really don't like each other, high elves were exiled from the night elves and changed after thousands of years. The hatred is strong. Sylvanas used to be a hero, she is now a full fledged villain with a mountain of crimes.
Those who played undead, love Lady Sylvania, The Banshee Queen. One of the best quests was to retrieve a locket, a gift to one of her sisters. She sings a song accompanied by a host of ghostly apparitions. She has survived against the most unlikely odds. There have been many villains in Warcraft, but I refuse to believe she has become one. Every character in the convoluted story has flaws. No one knows her plans but her. She plans many moves ahead of her enemies because she has to.
hi hello, a year late. but the purple elf you see is a night elf, descendants from Highborne (not to be confused with High Elves, which Slyv was!), but both did originate from the Alliance. Sylvanas was a former Ranger General (one of Quel'thalas's, the elven city that takes place where the cinematic does, military systems), who had been stabbed by the Lich King, or known by his true name "Arthas Menethil", and raised her into undeath (a banshee, which is from Irish folklore, but in WoW terms it is a ghost elf) because of the fact she basically kept taunting and stalling him, so he deemed her unworthy of a clean death. Afterwards when Sylvanas finds her corpse, she joins the Horde because the Alliance was also being attacked by the crisis that Arthas had ramped up severely, with former undead humans and highelves, who had branded themselves the Forsaken, because they were outcast from the Alliance. :) I would suggest looking into short lore videos or in-game cinematics, which last around 3-15 minutes because it can explain it way better than I currently am. The event taking place in the flashback is NOT an playable event in-game, it is actually played out through the Lich King's eyes in Warcraft III. but I can assure you that that tree is as good as dead, and so are the thousands of families, children, even sabers who lived there. VERY messed up, I know
A: Sylvanas was a High Elf, the people she killed were Night Elves, and her particular tribe were all wiped out by the Scourge (the Lich King's undead army.) B: That was the Lich King that killed Sylvanas, but he wasn't the Lich King yet. The Lich King is a soul of an old sorcerer that's trapped in the Ice Crown, but he corrupted Arthas (the guy's name) with Frostmourne, his sword. So he's under the Lich King's influence at this point, and he does become the Lich King, but isn't yet. C: When he kills Sylvanas Frostmourne traps her soul, and Arthas later resurrects her as a banshee (hence all the screaming and such) and enslaves her. She later seizes upon a moment of weakness on the Lich King's part, breaks free, and starts rounding up undead that have broken free from the Lich King's will into the Forsaken and rules over them as queen. They eventually join the Horde. D: While you may think of Sylvanas's actions here as pure evil, the truth is much deeper. She dies at one point and sees Hell, for all intents and purposes. Basically, when everyone on Azeroth (or anywhere else) dies they just become fuel for the Old Gods. She really doesn't want to go to Hell, hates the living for being too short sighted, and is trying to gain power so she can defeat death. In the cinematics leading up to the most recent expansion (Shadowlands) she smacks the shit out of the Lich King and breaks the Ice Crown, which rips a hole in the vale between life and death. This brings us to current time in World of Warcraft.

She's killing Night Elves, who are part of the Alliance. That's how the Battle for Azeroth (also called the Fourth War) begins.
False, Alliance started aggressions way sooner. The Fourth War was already started with the Battle of Darkshore. Considering the Alliance attacked her in Stormheim, attempted a coup in Arathi and attacked and murdered civilian miners in Silithus. The Darkshore campaign was done in response because the Night Elves sent troops to Silithus to aid the Alliance in fighting the Horde, leaving Teldrassil unguarded. If you live in a glorified Treehouse, don't piss off the dudes with matches.
The sad thing was... inside that tree, were thousands and thousands of innocent civilians, women, children, the old, etc. She set all of those lives to burn to death, one of the most painful ways to go.

One of the sad bits, that complements this, is an in game event for the Alliance. After she lights the tree on fire, Alliance players are tasked with desperately trying to save as many civilians from the flames as they can, all the while the tree burns around them. As the timer counts down the smoke and fire get worse and worse until only the Temple to the Goddess Elune remains. All the survivors run through portals made by mages in the temple, to the Human city of Stormwind. Your character, being one of the last to go, sees the Priestess of the temple refusing to leave...choosing to instead burn with her temple and the men, woman and children that couldn't be saved.
To be fair, the tree was holding a Alliance war criminal within it who had not only recently attacked Sylvanas and her people during a time when the Alliance and Horde were at peace - going against the orders of his own overlord in the process - but also while she was in the middle of launching an attack against the Legion, which the Alliance was also attempting to fight. All of her warships were destroyed and several of her top general were murdered in the attack, not to mention that many of her people died as well, all because one Alliance member held a grudge against her. That grudge could have cost the entire planet as the Legion would have burned it to ash. So the timing of that attack was beyond stupid. She actually had a legitimate reason to attack that tree. Alas, bad writing instead went with the "she's just super-ebbil" route.
Different tribe of Elf basically. All the elves used to be trolls, then a tribe found a magical well and transformed into the "Highborne" elf. After the "War of the Ancients" the magical well was destroyed and split the world apart leaving a big maelstrom in the middle. The remaining Highborne were fractured, the ones who forsook arcane magic and lived a druidic life live in the tree, they are Night Elves. High Elves still thought they could harness arcane magic safely and left on their own, eventually creating the sunwell, a new font of magic, and transformed into what Sylvanas was (the blonde elves). After Arthas, a death knight and soon to be Lich King, slaughtered the High Elves and defiled the sunwell to ressurect a powerful Lich (Kel'thuzad) the population was brought to about 10% of what they used to be. The survivors changed their names to Blood Elves in memory. During the big explosion a long time ago that broke the world apart one group of Highborne survived in their magical city by erecting a bubble around it. They're the Nightborne and we discover them in Legion, which was the last expansion before Battle for Azeroth. There ya go, brief history of Elves in Warcraft.
There was a heartbreaking quest in the game after this moment for the Alliance players. They flew up to the city on the tree to try and save as much civilians as they can. The quest asked for almost a thousand on a time limit and you could only realistically do like a few tens. It was a quest you could not complete - hammering in the reality of this tragedy even more. After you inevitably fail, you loose you consciousness and awaken in the temple where the last of who you saved escape through the single portal a few mages are trying to keep open. All the Priestesses of the city remain with the rest of of the people and they all burn. There is a short Novella on the website describing this in detail and it says that the Priestesses prayed to their Goddess Elune for nothing just mercy.. She heard them and the priestesses started singing to the people to calm them. They all fell asleep before the fires finally caught up and they passed. "The last three priestesses of Elune in Teldrassil prayed. They did not ask for healing or for rescue. They asked for mercy. And their goddess heard them as Astarii began to sing. _By the moons’ glow, listen._ _Beside the river, listen._ _Holding those you love, listen_ _To the cries of the dying,_ _To the whisper of the wind over the silent dead . . ._ Sleep brushed Astarii’s mind, feather soft, honey sweet. The pain disappeared. She let out a sigh. All around her, she heard similar sounds. The fire was relentless. The smoke would kill them, and the flames would devour their flesh and even their bones. Only ash would remain. But they would feel nothing. No pain in the Lady’s light, in the Lady’s love. Mother and child both slept, breathing gently despite the smoke. Her duty faithfully discharged, Astarii allowed her own eyelids to flutter closed. There will be justice, one day, but eyes other than ours will behold it. The last thing she heard was a cracking sound as she slipped into slumber." I just read both shorts and I never expected the alliance one to be so... graphic. I wasn't able to to take part in the saving the civilians quest so I had to rely on the vids and second hand accounts to get a feel of the horror, but that short story, I.. I had to take several breaks in between while reading. As a long term alliance player whose first character was a night elf hunter this... this was hard to swallow. Slyvannas is a very big fan favorite in the wow community but she’s equally as decisive as well. I’m a huge fan of her but as someone who has always played as a Night Elf, what she does in this video it broke my heart and I was so conflicted. I want her to do good and step away from this path but the night elf in me wants her to pay for what she did.

Not only is the tree, Teldrassil, so massive as to contain the night elves' capital city, but it also contains several smaller villages and a whole mini forest and ecosystem (animals, plants, water sources, etc) in its branches. That's why what Sylvanas did is so hateful and honorless. She destroyed all of that basically because she could.
And because her purpose was to break Night Elf moral, seeing how Saurfang failed in executing a enemy of the Horde, that being Malfurion, so she changed tactics to breaking it that way. Cause Sylvanas remembers the last time she took prisoners, the Alliance has a tendency to arm them and make them fight. But yeah, let us ignore that fact. Let us ignore that the Alliance attacked her when fel-fire was raining from the sky and the world was in the balance, because Genn has a hate-boner he can't let go of. And what did Anduin do about it? Nothing. Okay, no war yet, next up! Peace talks: Alliance sneak in a former princess of Lordaeron and nearly cause a coup. Only Forsaken traitors are executed and the Alliance civilians were spared. Okay, next up! Horde finds a new material, all they know it is powerful, so the Horde gets it. Alliance doesn't like it and slaughter civilian miners and steals the Azerite for themselves, Night Elves send reenforcements to Silithus to help the Alliance and Sylvanas FINALLY responds with the attack on Darkshore. So yeah, after the Alliance committing three acts of war against the Horde, Sylvanas finally gives them the war they wanted. As I said in many previous posts: If you live in a glorified Treehouse, don't piss off the guys with matches.
early lore gang rise up!! firstly glad you guys finally watched sylvanus warbringers, now youre all set for the last BFA cinematic. also the azshara warbringers is real good too even if youll probs know the least about what going on. so this takes place as the horde is attacking the night elves in dark shore and teldrassil(big tree), sylvanus has this plan to demoralize the night elves by killing one of their leaders, Malfurion(brother of the guy at the end of the burning crusade cinematic), she leaves him to be killed by saurfang who doesnt do it cus theres no honour. so instead to demoralize the elves she decides to burn down their tree with all the innocents inside. from her flashback, sylvanus used to be the ranger general for the high elves(who would become the blood elves), the elves were being attacked by the scourge led by Arthas, the Lich King from Wrath of the Lich King, but before he becomes LK and hes just a death knight. they needed to use the elves font of power, the sunwell, to resurrect a powerful lich but the high elves resisted so fiercely that arthas wiped out 90% of them that day, which is why the survivors are now named blood elves. sylvanus does that dope powerslide right in front of arthas who stabs her with frostmourne, his cursed sword that corrupted him to the whims of the previous Lich King, it consumes souls so he takes sylvanus' soul and turns her into a banshee as punishment for not surrendering its good stuff. after you guys watch the last bfa cinematic and probs shadowlands i would guess, i would suggest watching the lords of war series since it gives lots of cool lore for warlords of draenor as well as the big names from oldschool warcraft. + the maraad one at the end hits hard in the feels
You should react to "No More Lies" and "Sylvanas' Choice" cinematics from Shadowlands, she finally starts to reveal her motivations - and Anduin is in both, so there's even some eye candy to enjoy :P
Im not sure if anyone mentioned this in the comments but its even more messed up because if you are an alliance player you get a quest to run around trying to put out fires. Then when you realize its not possible you begin working on evacuating as many civilians as you can. The whole time you have a ticking clock before you succumb to smoke and pass out barely being saved by another hero
6:55 Wade, they are a different tribe of Elves. Theo ones in the tree and the one that was speaking to Sylvanas on the beach were Night Elves. Originally, Sylvanas was part of the race of elves that were predecessors to what in game would become the Blood Elves. Long story short it’s complicated. Point is Sylvanas died during the events of Warcraft 3 against the undead scourge lead by the Death Knight “Arthas”. He stabbed her with his sword Frostmourne & turned her into a Banshee. Eventually, she would by default become the Banshee Queen and diplomat for the Forsaken members of the Horde. Now she’s the War Chief of the entire Horde during Battle for Azeroth and re-igniting the old feud between the Alliance and Horde factions. All of this is setting up for what’s to come in the Shadowlands expansion of the story. Keep up the good work guys.
she was a high elf before arthas killed her and turned her into a banshee ,the elves that live in the tree are called night elves like the chick in very first cinematic that turned into a panther, the high elves started to call them selves blood elves after arthas rolled throught the high elf homeland and killed a lot of them.
Sylvanas is not a bloodelf she was a Highelf (the elves that comes before bloodelves and void elves) who died battling the lich king and turned into an Undead banshee... risen in ranks over time into Undead (Horde side Undead) queen aka the Banshee Queen) The bloodelves has King Lorthemar now. It is on the loading screen of Lorderon when you play WoW. :)
Sylvanas isn't a night elf, she used to be a light elf (which is what the blood elfs used to call themselves) before the lich king aka arthas killed and rised sylvanas as a banshee to make her watch as arthas kills almost every light elf's (there were survivers which are the blood elves) and the lady with the arrows on her back is infact a night elf because we can tell by the color of their skin and hair if a elf is blonde or something and has white or human colored skin they are light/blood elfs, if the elf has purple skin and green hair or something that is a night elf, for sylvanas, she still has her blonde hair but she has blue skin which means she's an undead banshee queen elf
If you’re trying to catchup for b4 Shadowlands I’d suggest Why Arthas Did Nothing Wrong. Not an official cinematic, just a bit of lore for Warcraft’s best villain and SL will more than likely involve a redemption story for him
This is why I love Sylvanas, she destroyed the Night Elves. I love her for that, alliance hates her for that. But she is too badass, she was a High Elf. Night Elves (Alliance) same ancestors but turned to the moon/druids/nature, Blood Elves (Horde) are very alike with High Elves because they are basically High Elves who changed their name after their massacre and turned to arcane magic/sunwell.
When Arthas (the Lich king) tried to invade Quel'Thalass (the city of the high elves, not the night elves you see here), ranger general Sylvanas and her defense forces gave him a real hard time breaching the city. So when he finally defeated her, he did not want to grant her the peace of death, he wanted to see her suffer. He turned her into a bansee and made her watch her own people die. Sylvanas later regained her will and body and made it her undead life's goal to see the lich king(Arthas) dead. However when arthas finally fell she had no real reason to keep going and tried to kill herself only to be brought back to life by the beings known as valkyr. What see saw and went through in the afterlife gave her new motives which were not clear until recently. We are to understand the extent of her motives in the new expansion Shadowlands.
Sylvanas is a very complicated character, while doing bad things and portrayed as uttermost evil, Activision Blizzard likes to give these type of characters "being a villain, but with good motives" trait. So far, a lot of theory crafting and leading on, tells that Sylvanas, while killing thousands of innocent people, is actually trying to fight death itself, the machine of death and the God of Death to be exact. Either way, it is pretty sad to see the whole scene of the burning of Teldrassil; and perhaps a bit spoilery, but you do get a quest, after the cinematic, to save 1000 people in the city on the tree, but maximum you can do is a few people, before fading of exhaustion; it kind of shows the hopelessness of the situation and that truly, at that moment, no one can fight death itself. And that the goddess (Elune) that the night elves are calling to all the time, does not care for them - that people can only rely on themselves.
And that's what cause the battle of lordaeron (Battle for azeroth cinematic trailer) and Saurfang desertion (he was agaisnt burn the Tree). The tree is the capital of night elf an Alliance race. Sh'es a ancient high elf, who where night elf long long ago and an acient race of the alliance, now in the Horde like the undead.
Sylvanas is what happens when you try to make a morally grey character without knowing what that actually looks like Burning the tree was never her intended goal, she simply wanted to break the moral of the night elves and take them out of the fight

Guys, if you are going to watch the intro cinemátic of Shadowlands (because you have only. Few videos let to get there) ... You need to first watch 2 cinemátics wich are rendered ingame of the wrath of the lich King expansión : "The wrath gate" and the "Fall of the lich King"... The animation is not so cool comparing this cinemátics but it have a lot of story! And you Will understand better the Shadowlands cinemátic and the wow:afterlives series (wich are like warbringers animation and its the prelude of Shadowlands expansión )
Yes the lich king killed her. But instead of letting her rip, he raised her as a banshee to work for him because he was annoyed with her resistance. The first time the lich King got weaker, she broke his control over her and went to find her body, repossess it and unite the free willed undead who managed to break free under her against the lich king.
Well. Few things to explain here. Sylvannas was a highelf (sunelf). Here she kills night elves. Her backstory have nothing to do here. She was killed by Lichking, raised as Banshee. Later she escaped. Fight against Lichking. Things end happily. She suicide after we kill Lichking saying he'd purpose is over and she will be free. Then things went wrong. She and both Arthas (Lichking) end up in maw hell. There she agreed with Jailor (kind of king of hell) to deliver many souls as possible. 10 years later here she is. Starting the war. The truth reason why she goto hell or she made the deal is still in unknown. For now it looks like she's trying to out of hell. She was never evil before. She's always work with hidden plans. So I personally think she's still not evil.
so basically to give a little more input, when she died her feelings for her people were so strong that it broke her free of death transforming her into a banshee
the way i look at it is most people have read chapter 1 and Sylvanas has read the book. SHe is trying to help people see that but everyone thinks she's crazy.
I wish they would go through like explain videos of certain characters, sylvanas character actually might be a good guy but playing the bad guy. I watched : Why did sylvanas join the jailer in the shadowlands. It kind of explained alot

THe Tree is a giantyfuckingnormous Tree, there's littleral Micro-Cosm in this thing. its so large there is several villages and cities in it, with lakes and valleys, thats How fucking big this thing is. With 100.000's people living there, and she burned it down.
The difference between High/Blood Elves and the Night Elves is that High ones have blonde hair and white skin. Blood elves have green eyes because of a Fel magic, and High Elves are having blue/golden eyes. Night Elves have a Purple/Blue skin with Blue/Green/White hair, and prefer to live in forests, while High elves prefer kingdoms and castles
I would have called it 'Treason' and 'The Betrayal'. But then, I tend to not support Alliance-loving scumbags like Baine and Saurfang. Cairne would punt that little runt of his across the tent if he saw how much of a pussy he is: 'But daddy! You rebelled!' 'I fucking challenged the Warchief in Mak'gora! I didn't side with the fucking enemy!' 'BUT I LOVE THE ALLIANCE!' Which everyone knows.
This isn’t “lore,” but the saddest part of this event is what happens in-game. As an Alliance player, you get a quest to save ALL of the night elves still living on Teldrassil. You save very, very few of them before the fire becomes overwhelming, and you are forced to leave everyone else to burn with the tree. In that moment, Sylvanas has truly killed hope, even for the player.
Save citizens: 0/999 2:49 remaining. I'm a horde player and die hard Sylvanas fan, but playing the Alliance side had much greater impact :o Still though, for the Dark Lady, always.
Newbies huh? Y'all in for a wild ride. Sylvanas will always be my queen. Such a sad story. I refuse to believe she would abandon her people now. She must have a plan in store.
Ofcourse like everyone else said watch the others that consist of jaina and azshara but def get someone to give you a little back story to them otherwise you will have no idea whats happening.
I used to like her but now, Sylvanas Windrunner is a genocidal bitch and The Night Warrior will be her end! Also Sylvanas is an undead High Elf and she was attacking the Night Elves. They are genetic cousins.
