Every time Jingles features a match that has tier 5,6, and 7 ships I have a moment of panic. "OMG please don't let this be a match that I was in. I don't want the gnome to criticize me."

Cleveland’s reload was also buffed by about 20% when she was moved to T8. She *definitely* would have been broken with her current reload at T6.

I remember having a fully AA built Cleveland in beta and early days. Had better AA than most tier 10s. There was a giant bubble of nope that enemy CVs has to work around. I miss those days.

There was a time when you could burn ships alive16km+ without being spotted even after shooting. To say the least, this game came a long way.

I remember hating being spammed by the Cleveland so much that I decided to grind to it as quickly as possible so I could do the same to others. Not too much longer after that, they moved it up to tier 8. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I remember playing this ship in beta. It was an absolute beast. Arguably better than some tier 10 nowadays. So the title of that video is absolutely perfect, and it will always be, because nothing will come close to what the Cleveland was back then!

I miss my T6 "I'm a Firestarter" Cleveland. "Wargaming feels CV Captains can't fly & use ship consumables at the same time" "This CV Captain can't seem to move & launch aircraft at the same time" Perhaps they're on to something?

I remember the Cleveland with the BFT and AFT skills increasing the gun range to rather absurd distances giving the shells almost vertical drop at maximum range you could bombard anything behind amost any island as you effectively had 6in mortars at that point.

Speaking as a DD player during closed beta, I don't think I could've been happier when this beauty got bumped up to tier 8.

Tier VI Cleveland, god that brings back memories. Now that you mention the New Mexico, that brings back something that happened with my Bayern years ago, the short version is I sailed right past her, and fired a full 8 gun salvo right in the New Mexico's stern, getting all the citadels and giving that American BB a case of "not-so-very-surprise-surprise-buttsecks" oh that was a good day.

I remember a time when Jingles used to hate the tier 6 Cleveland cause of it's slow shell velocity and weird firing arc. Times change, Jingles does not :)

Budyonny at T6 is amazing, the guns are really accurate and it has a decent armour belt if you angle it properly

Not another dime to Wargaming! (Don't forget to post that early and often in the forums) Another great video and commentary. I remember playing the Cleveland a lot before the cruiser split. For some reason, I had not played it or worked on that tech tree line a a very long time. A few months ago I started to work on the tech tree. It is now the first ship I play every day.

Glad to see a Cleveland video, i live not far from the last one, the refitted USS Little Rock here in Buffalo New York. I do recommend visiting the Naval Park, also has USS The Sullivans of the Fletcher class and USS Croaker of the Gato class (both also refitted)

I got this ship when its AA actually meant something and killing DDs was critical to victory.

I have very fond memories of my Pensacola at tier 7. First access to USN 8-in. guns, always underestimated by the enemy, I had some tremendous games in it. The New Orleans at tier 8 on the other hand... that was pure frustration. It felt like all I ever got was tier 10 matches and she could *not* handle those.

Actually preferred the Baltimore to the Cleveland but did have lots of fun in the cleveland. Unfortunately life in a light curiser at the moment is either spam from behind island or hope you get lucky with dispersion... Leander was one of my favouites. To be fair the Ranger player just behaved like the captain of HMS Glorious

When the Cleveland could equip AFT and get a 20% main gun firing range buff, those were good times.

Oh boy, I still remember this thing being at tier 6... And honestly... I never understood why was it considered overpowered. It was good, but it also was stupidly fragile for the most part. In early days it was very difficult to citadel, because it actually had historically modelled citadel - Cleveland had it sort of split - these days it is a solid block, but that is about it. The thing with Cleveland was... that this thing was very unfun to play against due to the constant stream of shells it could drop at you... And I also never found it fun to play AS, due to very awkwardly slow shell velocity and high trajectory.

If I remember correctly, Cleveland also received a rate of fire buff when it was moved to tier VIII. I think it used to have a 10s reload at tier VI that was shortened to 6s at tier VIII.

The original Cleve at T6 was the first time - you got a ship that was decent and could fight higher tiers happily. It was like the KV-1S equivalent in the early days of WoT or IS-3 people hate you.

Nurnberg DPM is a beast. It's one of my favourites. Eventhough it obligatory explodes sometimes.

At Tier 6 the Cleveland was a great ship, and I always enjoyed playing it. At Tier 8, well, its a tad weak. Even though it got Radar, and a tad more health, it also needed a Heal. As it stands now its my museum ship. Ah well, it is what it is.

well, at the very least, the friendly Ranger can tell the difference between an aircraft carrier and an airfield, unlike *some* people.

I rarely comment on these matches, but I found that especially well played.

I still enjoy playing the Pensacola. Sure, you get blown up often, but that ship has a special place in me heart. My first Kraken and Double Strike was in the Pensacola and I still love playing it in OPS.

Best T6 cruiser - La Gallisonniere (or however you spell it, the T6 frenchie) That thing is awesome. Best T8 cruieser? Well the Akizuki of course!

Damn, don't see Cleveland much, thanks Jingles. I really miss my old t6 version, I think it's still among my winningest ships. Crazy enough I also love Mogami, those 155s are monster, nice to see the Opfor Mogami have a great game even if it was a loss.

Loved her at tier 6. Was my favourite ship back then. Find her guns range way too short now at tier 8

They also buffed the dpm by lowering the reload speed and combined with the old ifhe and the fact that it's pretty hard to citadel really really made this ship just as evil in tier 8 as it was in tier 6.

My great grandfather served on a Cleveland class cruiser during WWII. The USS Atlanta, which served during the Okinawa campaign. Her fate after the war was pretty interesting.

I loved the Cleveland for some of the operations. Have only played it a couple of times since they bumped her up to T8.

Cleveland was my first tier 8 ship of any kind. When news came about the cruiser line split I was slogging through Omaha and so I got busy grinding that floating citadel to get to tier 6 before the line split. Because I did get there before the line split they also gave me Cleveland for free basically. It took me a really long time to understand how to play her and I was just starting to get it all figured out when I finally made the jump up to Seattle... which of course I hate hate hate!

Huanghe, Texas, W. Virginia 1941, Loyang, Chkalov, Hood, Weimar, and I finally stopped with the Atago. I have been playing for less than a month :P This game helped me realize that I get some weird sense of joy on paying money to "get ahead" in f2p games

In slight defense of the cv player, having played the ranger in T8 games, if you lose concentration for 2 seconds you can get deplaned. Since this guy obviously wasn’t the greatest, we can assume he was waiting for planes.

Great game, congratulations. I took my Clev for a spin the other day and had a feeling this ship really aged badly (or I played badly, or both). I was uptiered to T X match and oh boy, what a pain that was. Struggled to do any damage. Died with 240 hits which gave me... 24 thousand damage. Yeah, 100 damage per hit. RNJesus granted practically no fire damage. Eventually died to a CV because the days when US CA where something of a threat to planes are long gone. Lost a soft spot in my heart for the Clev since that game. :(

Agreed with Cleveland. While I am not great performing WoW captain, I managed to get my long term record base xp of 3960 with Cleve(R)land, it was probably some against T10 game I made it alive. It was sure game where you get into well known best awareness, with eyes high above highest Island hills, lol.

I remember when the Cleveland was Tier 6, and everyone lower than that feared it when it was spotted. I know I certainly did until I got the Cleveland myself. And I was really happy when they bumped it up to Tier 8!

I really did enjoy the Devonshire at tier 6, once I upgraded all the modules. Perhaps it's because the Hawkins is so awful, but once you figure out how to play a Devonshire, it's hilariously capable as long as you make sure you get into the right situations and stay out of the wrong ones. Like you should be doing in EVERY British cruiser that doesn't have smoke or radar. Side note, Evil Gnome--watching your "Making it 'work'" video helped me decide not to play WoWs at all until the companies clean up their act. I don't want to help them keep the game profitable by participating as either a target or teammate. Alas, I doubt they'll ever realize or care that what comes across as genuine in Russia, comes across as arrogant and disrespectful in the West.

The Mogami popped up for a second at the end; he only had 400hp left. He slipped behind an island before Nosetron would have been able to turn his guns even if he'd tried, but Nose would have won that fight if he hadn't won on points.

i remember getting this back in the olden days of wows, got 5 citadels on a broadsiding BB with AP because the armour on Battleships didn't work at the time xD

I remember the heyday of the T6 Cleveland before the nerfs and it being eventually moved to T8. This was also back when Defensive AA made it an aircraft squadron eating machine. We Cleveland drivers sustained ourselves on the tears of destroyer, and CV players.

I absolutely knew it! When i clicked on the video after reading the title i thought to myself "but Jingles, the Cleveland is T8 now". Great minds think alike?

1:50 To answer your question, I submit the following ships for your consideration: Leander - British, fairly stealthy, has smoke and hydro, fast firing guns with good AP effective against both cruisers, destroyers, and battleships that show enough of the bow-cheeks and superstructure. Can't deal with bow in ships that have armoured turrets shielding the superstructure from the front as they bounce off steeply angled sides and can't pen the turret. Ballistic arcs are good for firing over islands to hit enemies who think they're safe. Perth - Basically a Leander with access to HE and creeping smoke, spotter/fighter. Huanghe - Basically a Perth without British acceleration, minus one turret, one tube per torpedo launcher, and with Russian guns. It has better stealth, rudder shift and turning circle. Can choose between Hydro and Torpedo-Reload Booster. Given your access to crawling smoke, very few people take the TRB. Nurnberg - 360 degree rear turret, torpedoes, good hydro, IFHE built into the guns, good shell velocity, exceptional armour for a T6 cruiser, especially at close range. Budyonny - Good muzzle velocity, turret angles, AP, with self-defence hydro and self-defence torpedoes which I'd swear were super-cavitating. Spotter plane gives it crazy range as well, and given it's shell velocity it can accurately hit targets from that range. Molotov - Its a T6 with Donskoi guns. It has just enough armour to eat full penetration hits, and that's it. What more do you need to know? Admiral Makarov - It's a Nurnberg that you can put Russian captains on. Dallas - 6 inch mortars. You park 3 metres behind Olympus Mons and your shells still clear the island. Most of the shells you fire will hit their targets coming straight down, and for being 6 inch guns, you have surprisingly good AP. The ship itself is squishy as fuck so you need to use islands as cover, but if you catch a DD out of position with HE, or a broadside cruiser at less than 9km with AP, that person is probably going to die in 3 salvoes or less from full health. Aoba - 8 inch guns at tier 6. Good torpedoes. Do I need to say anything else? I do? Well it's armour is not terrible I suppose, although it's AA definitely is. But it's 2021. AA hasn't been effective for about 12-18 months, depending on whom you ask.

If you miss the t6 Cleveland experience, may I recommend the degrasse. Trade radar for torps and maneuverability, but I've had games that remind me a ton of what it used to be like!😊

Ouch Jingles my go to tier 6 cruiser is the IJN Aoba. I've earned over 400000 xp after moving up from it. US clan battles are 6s right now and I have had many matches with 100k damage and anywhere up to 12 cits on enemy cruisers in our clan battles. The Aoba is a fantastic tier 6 cruiser although if the reload was a little quicker it would make it just phenomenal. 10.5km detection range with a stealth build, 14.5km firing range plus 10k torps.

Loved my T6 Cleveland back in the day. Felt like a Pocket Battleship AND an Atlanta all in one. Every time I saw a flight of enemy aircraft I'd immediately declare Tally Ho! and charge towards them and shoot the entire flight down. Her guns (so many guns) fire fast and true. The two heavy cruisers above it at the time were so pathetic I couldn't be bothered going higher despite also wanting to reach the Baltimore. I didn't mind having the Cleveland bumped to T8 (other than its not the money maker it used to be).
