World of Warships Blitz - German cruiser "Admiral Hipper" review 

Yeah, her AP can be vicious, but they lose penetration quite a bit over the distance - I find them most reliable at mid- to close range. Not the best DD hunter, but can certainly take them on. I tend to play her more as a flanker than a support cruiser oftentimes - having a Hipper behind the lines isn't something a team can safely ignore, due to her damage potential.

@@FunandGameswithTerry mate, 2:18, actually said capitalistic powers did want nazis and soviets destrying each other, but, when it became evident that the Red Army was only going to stop when reaching the Atlantic Ocean, then and only then, after winter of 1943, that they actively supported the USSR.

@@aminrodriguez4707 That's not really true! First of all, the American people wanted NOTHING to do with yet another European war, and we didn't declare war until December of 1941! But even then, its not like we had Star Trek style transporters that could immediately beam millions of troops to France! We were short of modern military equipment, so we had to develop and produce the vast majority of the equipment we needed, AFTER we declared war! Not to mention the fact that we had to build up our troop force, train them, then send millions of them across a freaking ocean! We had to develop and build the amphibious landing boats that we needed. Nonetheless, we still managed to invade north Africa in 1942, to remove military pressure from the east. We also bombed Germany mercilessly to destroy their military industrial capacity, while sending the Soviets crazy amounts of trucks, planes, tanks, food, jeeps, weapons, etc etc. Besides, the Soviets and Nazis signed a "non aggression pact" in 1939, became evil-allies for about a year. They both organized and invaded Poland! Then Stalin was hoping that the Nazis, France and Britain would go to war and destroy each other! He didn't expect Germany to invade Russian soil, and refused to accept the dozens and dozens of intelligence reports from England and even his own people warning that the Germans were about to invade!

I love the fact that it had no consequences. Paraphrasing, "in the end, it was an executive decision by the First Sea Lord to scatter the convoy, and it was deemed politically unwise to criticise the First Sea Lord". Some things never change. Also, the Soviet reaction was priceless. "You couldn't have possibly been so incompetent to lose a whole convoy, it's more likely that there weren't that many ships to begin with".

Yes, the story of convoy PQ-17. Why the British were so afraid of the Bismarck. Just the presence of the Bismarck would scatter a convoy and make it easy pickings for U-boats. PQ-17 only thought Tirpitz was nearby (it wasn't) and they scattered. The Soviet reaction was another example of Stalin's paranoia.

Not the first or last gaff of the war at sea sadly.

@@angc214 🧐🤔🧐 The British admiralty (and I)tend to look at it this way.... Sure, almost the entire convoy was sunk. But, they were sunk by u-boats and smaller surface ships, NOT by the scary German battleship! That's what's important...... It's not THAT they were sunk...... It's WHAT sunk them that we must focus on. They say that while the many allied merchant marine sailors were slowly freezing to death while treading water in the north sea, they high-fived each other, while yelling, "wooo-hooo! It wasn't the Tirpitz"! 🙄😥Later, the admiralty sent death notices to the families of the deceased sailors. They read, "Dear Mr and Mrs Pennybottom, Your sons Ian & Nigel died NOT at the hands of a German battleship". This epiphany brought peace and closure to their souls"! 🤗😊

Yep, that was the one. Very questionable decision-making by the British there ... although it's easy to say afterwards. You're lucky to have heard some war stories from your granddad - mine fought on the eastern front, and even decades later wouldn't talk about it.

@@FunandGameswithTerry He didnt talk to me about it, but my grandmother recounted all the stories to me. He awoke screaming many a night. He joined as a boy sailor in 1926 and spent long times in the mediteranean and then China station in wei hei wei. He saw horrors there as the communists were executed. On walrus and swordfish as the Telegrapher air gunner but served on king george v, Renown, Norfolk and a few others. On the chase for the Bismark too and got a bit of a shock when they came out of the fog and saw it. Norfolk maneuvered a bit sharpish. He had a leica, so the photos he had are incredible. I've all his records and photos, apart from that which I donated to the Fleet air arm museum. I think the Eastern front just had to be absolutely terrifying, and for those who did come back I'm sure it affected them greatly.

Yeah, they're extremely similar. I'll do a side-by-side at some point. Thanks, this is actually a really old build, but I find the full focus on rudder shift to still work really well.

Hamas Asaduddin agreed, but the West Virgina is a sister ship to the Colorado. Very different in play.

well, at least she sinks gracefully :D Eugen is very similar to the Hipper. They work best when played aggressively, but it's a fine balance between getting into a brawl you can win and overcommitting. Their AP can be devastating against BBs when aimed right (there's a video in the works on the finer details of aim)

I've had some Yorck gameplay, but not a full review yet. Planning to do that, since she came number two in my "worst ships" poll (for some reason) :) Generally, if you're coming from tier 6, she's the first heavy cruiser you'll encounter. Very uncharacteristically for a German ship, she has absolutely superb HE shells. She isn't quite as sturdy as the Hipper, but can take a bit more than the Nürnberg. You can play her aggressively with torps, but she works very well as an HE spammer.

@@FunandGameswithTerry copy that Terry, see if i can apply Aoba tactics on her, since Yorck share the same HE characteristic. Still got no idea tho on how far her gun can reach the target

I tend to brawl in her, if there's an opening. She can take quite a bit of a beating, and the torps are devastating at close range. But the guns work pretty well on their own, I tend to fire AP even at BBs.

Yes, German AP is generally brutal (except for the Yorck). With a bit of aiming, you can do serious damage to BBs with her AP shells.

Hope we can play some games together once I get my Lexington then you can play with your Admiral hipper

I've been re-watching the battle a couple of times, wondering if I could have changed the outcome by hunting the DD on the other side. I figured two BBs and a CV would be able to take him on. Well, he either was lucky or a really good player. I've had the Roon unlocked for ages, but never bought her. I'll get to that soon, just have to get the news & current events (new DD line, USS Hill) out of the way :)

I love the Hipper. Sturdy, hard-hitting AP (especially if aimed properly), lots of torps. Yeah, no idea why he smoked. Might have been a misclick. Or they didn't know better - I've seen people using hydro straight off the spawn, with no possibility of torps being anywhere.

The Eugen is extremely similar. I've got a side-by-side comparison on my backlog. If you're after a more unique ship, I'd give the Zeppelin the preference (provided you like CVs), but feel free to wait until I got around to doing a detailed comparison.

ah, there's always someone :) Couldn't care less. Yeah, I've noticed a mission with some rather... ambitious targets. Play CV when it's quiet on the server, bots don't damage con.

Yes. Eugen is a Hipper in pretty much all regards, with slightly different skills.

Not yet, but German CVs do exist in PC, so maybe one day.

You gonna love the Hindenburg You can dmg 5k per salvo if you aim to the superstructure

Yeah, the Roon... that's why I stopped at the Hipper :D But I'll give her a shot, if only to get to the Hindi. As for aiming, I've got a research video in the making...

@@FunandGameswithTerry the Roon is not bad in my experience and also the armor is a bit tough than Hindenburg

which is why I never bought the Roon (I've had her unlocked for ages). But I will, once WG stops throwing exciting new stuff out for me to urgently review :)

Fun and games with Terry I think Wargaming should buff Roon by adding a secondary gun (It has 4 secondary guns, Their just not working) Or make the guns do more damage. A more insane way is to downgrade it to a tier 8 and upgrade hipper to a tier 9.

nah. Way too expensive (the bundle would have been 159 AUD), AA of a New Mexico, and so far whenever I've met one, I've been scoring citadels left and right. The only thing I'd have been interested in from the bundle would have been Yamamoto :) Now, I'm sure she can be played well in the right hands. But it's not a ship I'm personally excited about.

Musashi is not really worth the money or worth the titanium to get her because why save up all of that titanium for a Down tier Yamato where you can get the Yamato in the Japanese battleship line it’s the same thing as world of warships pc
