Chase, one BIG thing that you forgot to mention in this video, the barrage ability WILL FRIENDLY FIRE and shoot down any allied aircraft in the box, both yours or an allied players. So if you have 2 fighter squadrons engaged with an enemies fighter squadron, and you're going to win the fight. Don't try to come in and barrage with a third fighter squadron, you'll destroy the enemies planes but you'll shoot down all of your own aircraft too.
No there isn't, I just learned of it the other day. As others have said, I thought the other CV player was OP/cheating some how. Never had my planes wiped out like that before, and 180 CV battles for me. He and another player said it was strafing, never heard of it, not in tut's at all. But here it is, now I would like to appolagize for saying he was hacking. TY for posting this.
This strafe ability has got to be one of the coolest in game. It was amazing to watching from my Montana which was about to be torpedoed. My friendly Midway saw my pleas for help and in seconds, two whole torp squadrons where in the waves with their torps still attached.
Awesome! I've been wanting to see something on this recently! I ended up strafing my own planes, and was (rightly) called a noob. Been trying to figure out how to handle having 2 fighter squadrons and managing them most effectively. Thanks!
I need to watch the rest of your series so I can give carriers a go. On an unrelated note, I was just in a match with you on my team about 10 minutes ago. SOOOOO glad I didn't stink the joint up ("Galaxygrunt", 4 kills, top of the table in my Mikhail Khutuzov on that open sea map. Only been playing like 2 weeks, so I can't remember the name).
As a clarifying note to others, barrage will kill any aircraft within the barrage box, friendly or not. i have lost my own squadrons and have accidentally killed friendly squadrons before i figured this out.
Suggestion: Make XP for shot down planes to grow exponentially. The more you shot down, the greater end game XP multiplier per planes shot down. The weaker AA you have, the greater multiplier you get. This will encourage CV escort. Make DC part a passive gadget in which greatly reduced the time for putting out fire, stopping flooding, recovering damaged modules. Give player the option to trade DC party for other specialties with the risk of very long recovery time if hit. This will reduce timed HE spam because each fire will be put out with a limited a mount of time. Also this one button fix all makes 0 sense anyway.
Using barrage on enemy fighter scout may be beneficial as well. Especially so if the fighter scout is of a USN CA/BB or a grouped up ship(s) since getting caught in a dogfight with them and taking their AA fire can result in heavy fighter losses with how durable fighter scouts can be.
+iChaseGaming is there a way to make sure they don't dodge? often when I try this the target just gets out of the way, then strafes me while my planes can't turn away
+iChaseGaming Hey Chase i have a problem with my fps even though i have a windows 10 (windows 7 graphics card) it still doesn't get over 10 could u help me find a solution ?
you know, you can strafe enemy fighter without hitting your own by placing the crosshair at the very edge so that enemy planes are inside your strafe area but not your planes. Granted, hard to execute because your strafing fighter has to be at perfect position when your target fighter caught your other fighter or else you will took too long to find perfect position that the enemy CV might react by sending another fighter to intercept or their fighter would took down your "tank" fighter first before you got your strafing fighter into strafing position. Oh btw fighter seems to strafe at different way depends on where they are when the command issued, it seems to affect the result too but I'm not entirely sure
It seemed pretty clear to me that you were warning that your ally's scout and your own planes will be lost if they're in your reticle. I don't know why people are saying you didn't. I was wondering which tiers the strafing is restricted to, if any.
Hi Chase, I have a question, I haven't found an answer to, so far. Are my fighters some kind of vulnerable after a strafing run? I encountered the problem, that my fighters got involved in a dogfight right after an (more or less missed) strafing run. I had the impression, they didn't defend themselfs for estimatly 10-15 seconds. By then half of them were shot down and the fight was lost. That happened multiple times. Maybe, either it's a bug or some kind of cooldown. Did someone else make similar experiences?
why does the ammo not drop or goes empty at 3:46? when i do this strike my hunters loose ALL ammo he has, also when its fully armed,1 such strike and all ammo is lost, but not 1 loss of ammo when you do that, why?
Missing one of these while playing an IJN CV means you just lost all your planes. Succeed against a USN CV and you merely bought time until his next flight is up. Sometimes it works well, but when it fails man does it fail.
one of my fave tricks when facing enemy superior fighter force with strike loadout on IJN is to sacrifice one squadron to lock down 2-3 enemy squadrons, and then strafe entire "blob" , making basically 12-4 exchange :)
Wow, how did I not know about this? I have CVs in both lines, tier 6 and 7! I feel so dumb :( This does explain how an IJN squadron did so much damage to my US fighters. I was attacking enemy bombers when IJN fighters came and took out 4 of my fighters out of no where in seconds, no idea how... well, now I do!
Strange thing, however, is that after I do a strafing run, when I hold ALT again the box don't show it's just the circle. It will take awhile before the box shows up again. (This is after a strafing run with full ammo)
This benefits both side. 1) IJN torpedo bomber will be efficient only if they are stacked, so that's a very easy target. 2) Finally IJN paper airplane can kill some USN planes. However, I had seen a video before 0.5.2, 20 Hak fighter vs 7 Mid fighter, 2 squad destroy other 2 left with 7 planes, even with the ability enable.
Nguyen Johnathan What? It means Mid planes will dominant Hak planes even with fighter ability. At least before 0.5.2 Mid planes 7 in 0 out Hak planes 20 in 7 out Or my writing is so bad that you just don't know what I'm talking about?
Sometime when my fighter about to perform a strafing run i change theirs entry point , the fighter will not strafe a straight line but do a spin instead , short range but can catch the enemy from left or right . Can you research about this a bit ?
+M A T R I X hold alt and place an attack run come to an enemy ship from the side and place the attack run a bit in front of it. and the start of the green area a bit away from it (usually around the same distance as its width). keep training with it and u will do well. try to make the enemy start getting into that area when the torps hit the water (more or less depending on his speed).
+M A T R I X if u need more advice let me know. when i started i watched several vids about it to know how to do it, and it was hard at the first 2 battles, but then it became much easier. the torpedoes arm as soon as their triangle icon appears on map, so try to place the drop so they arm close to the target for minimum evasion time.
+M A T R I X i watched vids about this, u can find them on youtube too. focus battleships as much as u can as they are the easiest target to hit. check the loading screen for enemy stats and focus the battleships with the weakest AA first if u can. u can also focus carriers but when they got good AA its dangerous. with US carriers i recommend using the starting plane loadout, as i think having fighters AND torp bombers is a basic need for any carrier. for max damage, when u got dive bombers AND torp bombers, u can try to make a combo. start a fire/flooding with 1 attack, then hit with another attack and cause fire/flooding, AFTER the enemy uses their damage control party, and it goes on cooldown. for battleships the usage time can be up to 20 secs. causing flooding is now much harder but its deadly if they cant repair it. u can do that with the tier 6 carrier if u want. also learn how to use strafe alt fighter attack as shown in this video. it can be devastating if done properly.
simple stuff, didn't mention how to intercept enemy when enemy started alt, which most people don't know how to do,even the one make video may don't know how to do too.the two tips is prevent die of your aircraft, but there is still one tips that make enemy can't alt.= = this patch of uss cv are good for attacking enemy planes, but if enemy almost started or started alt,you should rotate and make a circle, then enemy plane won't kill any one of our plane.i don't know is it u don't want to teach the top skills or you don't know. but fine this guide is ok.well played .
Yeah, I just ran into this for the first time today too, thought he had to have some cheat because everything sent down so fast. So I did my research first.
At what range do they start doing damage to the enemy though, as in how close do they have to be or can they hit any part of the targeted area from any point while strafing?(aside from behind them ofc)
+The Hungry Wolf 足柄 they start doing straffing damage as soon as they open fire to anything imediatly in front of the planes. so anything in the air and within the bullet animations will take damage friend or foe.
I was playing CV's for most of the night and on several occasions had this happen to me wondering. WTF! Now I know!...Thanks for the know how Chase!...
soooo... i hold Alt key then that box thing appear?? well im my case it didnt appear maybe there are problem on my controls or other... my alt key is "Alternative Battle Interface mode" i hold the Alt key then theres no green box appeared
i acidently stumbled upon this function XD, i pressed alt on my fighters. and i was like what does this do, i tried it and understood... made a few mistakes at begaining though
I pray none of the CVs I play against see this. 3/4 don't know how to strafe or how to avoid it. I usually get accused of hacking several times a day. This is exactly why I decided not to sell my T5 CV haha.
+Ender MX if there wasn't any friendly fire it would stupidly OP. Just lock the enemy planes down with something and strafe away. Or let him attack a bomber squadron and then strafe over them. It's there so that people don't go full Barrage on everything at any time.
Thanks for the video. It's an idiot game mechanic though. It's random, very cheap to use with no risk, and destroys multiple squads at the same time in less time than I can count to three. It is joined into the forced game mechanic where planes are forced into a battle. No ship has to deal with that, and every ship has a long lead time to avoid the torp/bomber equivalent. WoW could give us a critical fail, when someone tries this and THEY have an RNG chance to get wiped, ok I can live with that.
+Blue Steel It kind of does actually. Zoom and boom tactics are used by fighters against opposition which turn better but have less powerful engines. Ironically, considering the strafe is most important to IJN carriers in WoWs, it was mainly the US who used it against IJN Zeroes.
Please stop with the reticule, to avoid the ridicule... ok, sorry for that, but really, it's RETICLE, not RETICULE. - reticle a network of fine lines, wires or the like, placed in the focus of the objective of a telescope - reticule a small purse or bag, originally of network but later of silk
An bug/exploit, if the enemy fighters are on you... you can slip out and do the strafe against them while they cant do shit and be shot down... very poorly designed
haha ... Now, 1 Lexington can kill 1 Midway! im play Taiho win 100% Essex! CV JNP no1.The US aircraft carrier, crippled with Fighter JPN. Players waiver CV USS.LOL. There are many changes to the balance. But WG did not want. sorry for bad english! Midway crying
Other than your usual videos, this was just common knowledge. You simply showed the barrage ability, as if it was some crazy secret, that no one ever knew it existed. But this is as standard a CV action, as launching torps. Weirdly uninformative.
