It is actually pretty common with RU DDs i suppose (i do it often in mine too) as they don'T need it most of the time because they are spotted anyways (at least as soon as they want to do damage)

I love it when they ignore the smoke screen and dont use it. Even though you are telling them in chat and its right there in front of them. I really enjoy wasting my smoke and the BB dieing at the same time :( So many players just dont read the game anymore.

In most situations it's better to use AP against a DD as a BB (...acronyms.) The only mistake the Yamato made when firing the AP (which was already loaded and ready) at the Udaloi was by attempting a full broadside instead of ripple fire as he obviously didn't have the right lead. A single shell penetration on the Udaloi which given the Udaloi's forward angle was quite likely to happen would have killed him. Overpens from AP are worth more than damaging modules with HE as that tends to soak up damage. AP is almost always the right choice for battleships against destroyers but almost never the right choice for the other classes against destroyers. If you have the time to switch to HE in a battleship with the foreknowledge of an impending destroyer encounter by all means, do so.

No I think BB HE is still superior in every circumstance. Because HE can knock out the steering/engines/torpedo tubes, or even all of them, with a single hit. AP can't unless you get ridiculously lucky.

+Tamren Starshadow I'd rather kill the ship than knock out the modules. Wait for the ship to start turning so the shell travels through more of the destroyer and increases the chance of getting a penetrating hit instead of just an overpen. works quite well, especially against Russian dds

Get the skill that cuts down shell switch time. It's definitely worth it in my experience

Business6 And what if they never turn bow on? What if they zigzag so you never land a lengthwise hit? What if wait for the perfect shot and then just miss? Just like that your plan falls apart. I know the benefits of AP against DDs but killing them using AP pens at short range is an act of desperation, not a plan of attack.

It's lovely to see destroyers popping smoke to cover damaged allies. I was saved by two destroyers this morning in my Fuso with their smoke, and I repaid them by staying alive to help win the game on Two Brothers. Teamwork is a rare and wonderful thing indeed.

I was kind of expecting a 6 friendly losses, then a come back to win from the title. Team-wise it was never really one sided, however, it was a guy who didn't go sulk behind an island because he lost a large amount of health at the outset. And I've been in so many games where I've seen someone lose 80%+ of their health in the opening salvo then spend the rest of the game hiding behind islands typically used by CV's rather than help out their team.

I play my battleships and cruisers down to the very last bit of HP. Problem is, the community doesn't think that is a great idea and most of the cruisers/battleships that happen to be sailing right next to me in the beginning of the game suddenly disappear after the first exchange has been made and I scope out of binocular view to discover that they've fled leaving me as shell bait.

That Zao wouldn't have been able to avoid those torps unless he beached the ship (and he probably wouldn't have been able to do that as he was going too fast so would have just rounded the island corner). But even if he did manage to beach the ship he probably would have been killed by something else instead.

Here's a concept! I'd like to see a new class of ship: the tender. It would provide repair/time to any ally within x distance and restore consumables to ships remaining close enough for long enough. This is a whole new game dynamic for random battles, but the mechanics could be based on other game modes where buffs are picked up by driving through markers. To attract an armed ship to protect it in games where no carrier was avail, it could perhaps provide reload boosters for torpedoes or large bore guns?

You don't need islands to have stealth torpedo launches in this ship, Jingles. A target doesn't need to be within the torpedo range circle when you launch your torpedoes. It just needs to be within that circle before your torpedoes finish their run. Since ships move, you can launch your 8 km torpedoes at 8.6 km away from a ship moving in a direction roughly towards you, and have plenty of range to spare if the ship maintains its course and speed for torpedoes to get there.

Actually jingles, cou can launch torpedoes from outside their maximum range if the enemy is closing in. This works extremely well against slightly faster moving cruisers and BBs since the faster they are the further away you can launch.

Kahabarovsk has torpedoes that can deal 19.5k damage, but those are almost never used, with only 6km range and a slow speed. Not to forget, the Shimakaze has several options, all of which exceed 20k per torpedo. The more likely set from the Khabarovsk are the 15.1k damage 10km set - and those are currently the weakest DD torpedoes at tier 10.

cool replay but i have only one tip for mr tweeqles and that is to fire his ap rounds at the super structure at anything broadside even yamatos. russian dd ap is op, great way to boost damage fast and punish people who dont know about it

you don't need to use islands to get torpedo hits...you see where the target is going and fire so they sail into your torpedoes, using combined speeds of your torpedoes and the target's speed to get a hit. You use this technique and you can get more hits without being seen, with short range torpedoes. He wasn't spotted again until he opened fire on that cruiser allowing both cruiser to open fire on him. That Zao can react only so fast there Jingles...

The upgraded guns are more different than you think jingles, along with the better turret turning speeds you also get slightly higher damage, slightly faster shells, I believe a faster reload and the guns themselves are dual purpose and count in your AA rating.

I liked my Udaloi. It's the ship with my highest base exp game which was just over 4k exp. Coincidentally it was on Shatter as well.

He should have used AP on that Broadside Yamato, Russian DD AP does pretty good damage to broadside BBs, 4-5k a salvo every 3-4 seconds, doesn't take long for that to add up

Haha, that you get focussed while in a DD by a BB is quite common even if he has other targets to shoot at. Happens to me all the time, I think it has something to do with really annoying the shit out of them with raining shells on top of them and setting some fires. That's why I just love my gunboats DDs, it's just psychological warfare. Especially funny when you see the turning point that the BB gets really really mad at you xD.

I've had games in the Nagato and Tirpitz where, until the point that I'm the last one left, the only damage I've taken has been from secondaries. I think that sometimes, people would rather shoot at anything other than an angled BB.

I did bounce 410mm Amagi shells of it yesterday. It just doesn't really work if the enemy is closer than 10km. Or if you show an angle large enough to shoot all your guns.

Maybe you should be cautious from the start. Was one of my problems driving DDs. Be cocky at first until I got a spanking and only then adapt stealth tactics.

Actually, the guns on the Shimakaze are pretty solid. They only lack the range of a gunboat´s cannons. But aside from that, they are pretty decent. The problem of most Shimakaze players is that they completely forget about their guns and just focus on their torpedos. The amount of Shimas that I wrecked in mine only with the guns is ridicoulus.
