Julian Klee Yeah that certainly seems to be a trend now, a shortage of the good the bad and the ugly my favourite series. I remember when it was one episode a day but now it's one a month
No Jingles, Scharnhorst and Gneisenaw were not battle-cruisers, they were true battleships. A battle-cruiser had battleship guns and heavy cruiser armor, while these two had battleship armor and smaller caliber guns. They were built this way for political reasons and both were supposed to get the 6x380mm guns upgrade after the start of the war. The only WW2 German ships that could fit in the battle-cruiser classification were the Deutschland class armored ships, but ironically enough at the time the Brits called them "pocket battleships".
Hood had a very narrow 12" belt at the waterline, but most of her citadel armor was only 5 to 7" thick. Renown had only 6" at most and was notoriously fragile. Scharnhorst had a complete 14" belt over the entire citadel, backed up by supplemental 7" shields in the middle and extended fore and aft by 6 to 8" secondary belts. To get some perspective, Warspite's main belt was only 13" thick.
Not ENTIRELY correct. German battlecruisers emphasized armor and speed with smaller gun caliber, and British battlecruisers emphasized big guns and speed with less armor.
+TheCommunistColin No such thing as "German battlecruisers" - the Scharnhorst class was always designated as a Schlachtschiff (lit. battleship). That is an absolute fact. That some people (Brits, mostly, by the look of it) like to lump her in a category she has no reason to be in doesn't change that.
HerrRoehrich Not just talking about WW2, for the record, they also had battlecruisers in WW1 (Von der Tann, Seydlitz, the Moltke- and Derfflinger-classes, and the planned Mackensen- and Ersatz Yorck-classes).
devilsmessanger I agree, his replays are entertaining to watch, but from the perspective or someone who wants to get on Jingles's channel, he's a rival :D
Jingles - here's something to consider when deciding on what ships to highlight: A large number of your viewers probably play World of Warships. Of those people, a large number have either played or DO play Battleships. That said, this means that they understand what to expect from a Battleship replay. I believe the only thing you need to worry about is whether or not the actual Battleship performance in a particular replay is effective with impressive results, but do NOT think you need to worry about whether we get the fact that a fair number of shots or shells will miss, whether or not it takes time to get into position, or whether or not the subject player of the replay is particularly good otherwise. Your editing, cutting out parts that are a lull, or speeding up boring bits tend to allow us to view an interesting replay, and that goes for EVERYTHING but the 10 or 15 minutes we have to endure of you playing WoW.
The best things about your videos Jingles is what I learn as I watch way the player plays his or her game while you give color commentary. I believe that I have improved my games (and therefore the enjoyment of said games) because of what I am seeing and hearing in these videos. Strategy and tactics, battle themes and how others play in their styles gives me more opportunity to try new things and new tactics in game and so therefore I really appreciate your work and thoughts in the creation of these videos. Thank you very much sir.
Crustay.... it just seems so odd, seeing him in a battleship. I still remember him in the Gearing, handing out punishment to anyone who got too close....
Crustay is elevating his aimpoint to the deck level, looking for penetrations instead of going for citadels and getting mostly bounces. I think it's the perfect way to aim with that ship.
While battleship replays are slower paced... I don't mind myself. I imagine like many I come here for the commentary and even just having backround noise.
Nice Thumbnail Picture. Too bad it's the Bismarck. Picture is the boxtop art from Revell's 1/350 Bismarck kit. Great video of one of my favorite ships. It's sort of like the WOT JT88
Eh, the Sharnhorst isn't really a battlecruiser, but fits more into the cruiser killer category, which is an obscure category as only about 3 ship classes in the world were actually built that fits into it, that being the german Deatchland class and the American Alaska class. Japan given another year or 2 would of had her first cruiser killers, aka, super heavy cruisers, on the sea. The B65 class. Russia also has the blueprinted but couldnt afford to build, the Project 82 "Stalingrad" Class.
Are you OK, Jingles? A Battleship replay? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, it's just a rare threat to see. Even if you had to shit on Battleships for the first third of the video in what came across like profuse apologies for featuring a Battleship replay, I still enjoyed it. As a very occasional captain of a Battleship myself and a huge fan of Heavy Tanks in World of Tanks, I thank you. Please feature more of this. This was the first World of Warships replay I've actually enjoyed in quite a while.
The Tier III Myogi, with only six guns and absurdly high speed for a early BB with it's engine upgrade, is definitely a battlecruiser in every sense of the word. Would love to see some other ones (the British I-class BCs, the Cats, and the Hood) as well as proto-BCs like the Alaska as well.
Hey Jingles, did you see the BBC article about the auction of tanks and paraphernalia at the Normandy museum? It's a private tank museum in (duh) Normandy, and the owner is closing down and auctioning most stuff off. He's apparently keeping an APC, though Because, well, EVERYONE needs an APC. :) Check out the article and video. They look to have done a great job on the restorations!
What I like about playing BBs is that you can do it while drinking your cofee and browsing Facebook or reading something, relaxing in your robe and slippers. Good times.
so, on the 2 brothers map, managed one night to convince the entire team into going down the middle. even the carrier. it was before i could enable replays :( it was glorious.
When talking about firing accuracy we must not forget one tiny fact. While in World of Tanks players are shooting over distances like 300 or even let's say 500 meters, in World of Warships this distance is usually between 2 and 20 kilometers. This is probably more than all WoT maps lined up. ;)
Sweet! The one thing I've never understood is why the game just ends on a freeze of the last kill. You don't get to enjoy the final ship burning sinking as the game wraps up.
I'm later this I had a good excuse they wouldn't let me out of the saltmines! Now back I go till next time!. I cant wait to play the british cruiser line.
Thank God a BB replay BB drivers can watch and learn from. There have certainly been enough itty bitty precious baby boat videos. I don't care if they are "boring" we need more BB replays, so we can learn too. #BBLM!
Oh Jingles, you dont citadel German ships. They have turtle-back armor. You can, but like, you have to be really lucky or the enemy should be flashing its 'red belly' while on a turn and the shell has to hit there- perfectly.
It's not only the lack of accuracy but also the fact that you shoot your guns at ships from 5-25km away, while in World of Tanks you rarely see a shot from 1km
I always feel a bit scared firing inside a smokescreen without moving for that exact reason. I mean, I've never been ripped apart because of it, but I did know you could see where the fire was coming from.
The Wyoming wasn't complaining all game, he wasn't really even complaining. Most of it was spent claiming the Konig Albert was impenetrable and discussing battleship armor.
Quick tip. Unless your really close like 6-9km maybe 10km just shoot at the Super structure on Battleships. Those 3-5k volleys tend to become 6-10k volleys. Just played a game last night ans most salvos on BBs were 7k. (Also if BB angles well or facing away just fire HE. Ive bounced entire salvos of 7 hits)
I don't think T5 should get matched with T7s... or you shouldn't get matched with 2 tiers above you anyway. Especially between tiers 6-8 where the difference is huge
thats what it is though basically. tier ships can end up in games with tier 5 and tier 7 ships. But in turn that means the tier 5 is in a tier 7 game. it happens
twindragonslegend That's not what it is. Tier 3 ships are limited to T4 or T3 games only. T4 ships are limited to T3, T4, or T5 games only. Since T3 are limited to T4, if a T4 ship is in a T3 game, there will NEVER be a T5 ship in the same game as the T3. (Unless faildiv happens which is a lot more rare)
Sly Wyn yes thats for the low end tiers but everything above tier 5 can see +2 tiers. So depending on which tier youre in a lot of the time you can end up in a +1/-1 game
The amount of Citadels in battleships when shooting at other battleships have been reduced a lot i think. I got one the other night and I think that was my first in a week or so, and I play BB's every night. On cruisers on the other hand I almost get one or more in every battle.
I think German battleship gameplay would be a little more interesting because its secondaries are a beast and some of them have torps for that extra surprise.
As long as you're not ending in T10 games as Bismarck (which is annoying AF because you have nothing to shoot at if both teams are camping behind islands and the one showing himself gets killed first) it's really fun to play that ship. Even more so when some DD drivers still didn't figure out that Bismarck has almost 11km secondary range and if the Captain is well-skilled Bismarck's secondaries melt every DD in the game within less than a minute.
Does anyone actually remember when Jingles was named the Bohemian Eagle? You can even see it In his channel link ru-vid.com What have I been doing the past 4 to 5 years....
I like the Scharnhorst. Its ability to defend itself from destroyers and thick armor(If angled) i find it quite flexible. But it is easy to overextend as Crustay did. The Scharnhorst's speed have a habit of sneaking up on you and you find yourself in bad situations.
Re 4:50. No, Kongo is a battlecruiser, Sharnchorst is a fast battleship. The last battlecruiser ever built was Hood. In 1930s none built slow battleships anymore, and hence there was no distinction between battlecruisers and battleships. These were all batleships. An no, Dunkerque and Alaska were not battlecruisers either. First one was a batleship, second one was God knows what, a large cruiser or a small batlleship.
Yup, nothing more thrilling than going in a knife fight with a fellow BB-er 2 huge floating fortresses duking it out, like Godzilla vs King Kong, mano e mano of course then they decided to give some BBs torps as well, so forget having some CQC fun and be relegated to plodding around at range with the occasional DD there to assrape you
I don't think the battlecruisers will be or should be in the battleship line for a number of reasons. The Scharnhorst and the Gneisenau were officially considered battleships, despite their low calibre armament. No German battlecruisers made it into the German battleship line. There are more than enough German and British ships to make two distinct battleship and battlecruiser lines. I suspect and hope that proper battlecruisers like the Hood, Alaska and Derfflinger will be added in a future update in their own battlecruiser lines.
Yes but WG want pure crusier in crusier line and anything with a batteship armament in battleship lines. Kongo and Amagi were battlecrusiers retrofitted yet they arw also labeled bbs in game due to their cailber. Its basically a easy way to tell what guns you get in what light. Torps and fast fring small guns, DD. 6-8inchers with good mobility and support roles, CA/CLs. Big gums that can nuke someone BBs. Also Alaska is techincally a "heavy crusier" i know but it has armor better than a kongo
Well the Kongo we see in game is post conversion into a battleship and the Amagi was never built. It would make no sense for wargaming to limit it's self by mixing the trees. If it wanted to mix the trees then we surely would have seen some German battlecruisers in the German battleship line. During the German Empire and the Third Reich 7 battlecruiser classes were designed, 4 of which where built, non of which are in the game. These would make a very good battlecruiser line, or at least an alternative battleship line. The same should and likely will be done with the British. The British had 9 battlecruiser classes and 18 classes of battleship. It would make no sense to make one tree of 7 ships when 2 trees could easily be made.
Been playing the Kiev... Its fun decimating overconfident Japanese destroyers with sheer firepower, and any torpedo hit with it is just a bonus. Apparently it got nerfed recently but I'm loving it regardless.
Absolutely disagree that BB replays are boring. Yes, those sticking at max range and sniping sure are boring, but any BB going to brawl can produce very interesting replays!
Hey Jingles, do you think that your advice such as launching torps into smokescreens and turning perpendicular to a destroyer when in close range combat, has had much influence on how players react to different threats?
Recently I killed a Fubuki hiding in smoke with a widespread load of Torps from my Tirpitz. When you do that you don't expect to get a kill or even hit but to make the DD-Driver get out of cover and expose himself so your secondaries.
Definitely good for flushing out DDs in smoke but also good for the occasional kill since most people aren't used to BBs having torps. Although I haven't made it past the Nassau yet I'm sure that the torps later on can come in handy in a knife fight and somebody makes a high speed pass right next to you forgetting that you have torpedoes.
