The William D. Porter's other shenanigans are an interesting read. Just before they left port for this very escort mission, the person in charge of hauling the anchor onto the deck of the Porter decided it was too heavy, and left it over the side. The Anchor scraped along the hull of the other escort destroyer and 24 hours later, it managed to catch up. Also, before the AA drill, a depth charge had fallen off the back of the Porter. The explosion knocked a crew member overboard (who was never found) and damaged the boiler. After returning from the Atlantic, Porter was stationed in Alaska where nothing could possibly go wrong. However, a drunk sailor decided to fire a gun which was aimed directly at the base commander's house. It destroyed his flower garden. Porter was then moved to the Pacific where she shot down 5 Japanese Kamikaze planes and dodged a 6th. That plane went underneath the ship and blew up, lifting the Porter out of the water. The whole crew survived.

So add a feature for AA guns to shoot incoming torpedoes !!! and of course detonate the torpedoes when they reach their maximum range (not disappear suddenly!)

Not mentioned, but the Iowa class BBs were actually able to turn inside a Destroyer, many a DD captain was chagrined to discover that his nimble ship was outclassed by the smaller turning radius of those BB's

If the iowa blow up and sunk from just one single torpedo then that ship is nothing but talk when compared to Yamato class. If i remember correctly, the Musashi took 19 torpedos and several bombs before she sunk, while Yamato took 11 torpedos (i believe) and several bombs before she sunk aswell.

Wargaming Europe, you forgot to mention the USS Iowa also trained their main batteries at the destroyer because they weren't sure if the ship went rogue and was committing mutiny.

Later William D Poter was transition to Aleutian Islands and the commander of ship ditch from his ship. That's a great punishment. FDR just spared them from charge of treason

I met two people in WoW who both received a disciplinary punishment for purposely shooting and torpedoing teammates.

Being told I was not in trouble for missing the battleship but for missing: Are you kidding me?!

It's a real shame that the wille d didn't get a time to shine. It could've been a great vessel if it wasn't riddled with bad luck. The Japanese must have been laughing their socks off when they heard about it.

Also a thing they didn't mention about this comprehensive disaster was that according to legend the Iowa trained her guns on the William D Porter and were ready to engage in combat with her (wouldn't have been much of a fight) as they thought that the crew and captain were trying to assassinate the president.

That's the moment the commander new.... he f**** up. #friendly fire
