i was gonna say, i sail radar mino a ton, things biggest weakness is that it can’t stop for shit! so many times i accidentally inch around an island and get blown tf up because it doesn’t slow down

Puiting the ship in full reverse, should decrease it's stopping distance. I have no idea why that works in other ships, but doesn't work in British Cruisers. It's complete bollocks, and should be changed.

@@wonderwaffle5858 Im Mino I always sailed out of smoke, so I decided to ditch smoke at all and play radar Mino. Since then my WR on Mino is improving and I really enjoy playing her. Having no smoke makes you not try to rely on it.

Some points: 1. Mino can stealth radar meaning it's detection is lower than the radar range. That Shima had no chance :) 2. I'm pretty sure Thunderer HE can citadel the Mino at that range - I've done it in my Conqueror and that has smaller caliber guns. Always fun to watch jingles!

Its certainly possible, but given you dont get any overmatch or going through layers with HE, you do actualy have to directly hit the outside citadel belt for it to work.

HE has fixed penetration. If Thunderer's HE can citadel a Minotaur (and it can, 114mm HE penetration against 101mm citadel belt) it can do it at any range. The penetration is always the same.

The Minotaur - I seem to recall reading a technical manual on the gunnery system that the Minotaur would expend all of the ship's ammo within 20 seconds when fired. I hope the support ship is nearby. 😄That is one of the reasons why the Minotaur did not make it out of development.

[citation needed] Each gun had a rate of fire of 15-20 rounds a minute, so call it 4 seconds per salvo. That means you get 5 salvos in 20 seconds, times 10 guns for an ammo load out of just 50 shells. Across the entire ship. That seems unlikely.

Surely you mean 20 minutes. 20 seconds would suggest that it only carries 6 rounds per barrel, and that would have been absurd. Still 20 minutes worth of ammo is way too little for a warship.

BTW, they had two different gun layouts, one was electric and the other was hydraulic. Both were fast as hell in doing their gunnery functions.

I could maybe see if they meant 20 seconds of full rate firing which then slows as shells need to be moved from magazine into the loader, but not 20 seconds of total trigger time.

2:20 the Shima did not get spotted and then radar'd, it was spotted _by_ radar because Best noticed the RPF nearest enemy was someone other than the visible Grosser Kurfurst.

Having said that, it is possible the Shima was spotted visually by the Z52 pretty much at the same time as the radar went off, as the Shima is 8.4km away and the Z was 2.9km in that same direction - a separation of about 5.5km between them. This is part of the awkwardness of DDs detecting less stealthy DDs. The separation is not very far outside your own spotting distance when you see the other DD, even if you are the stealthier of the two.

The Z-52 should have popped his hydro the instant he got spotted by something he couldn't see; his detection radius is 6.1 and his hydro range is 6. At that point in the battle you're almost certainly sailing toward each other, so you close that 100m distance in a second, then you can smoke up and kill the enemy DD while it tries to disengage and/or fire blind. Dude played that exceptionally badly. The Shima was never gonna get away from that encounter due to the radar Minotaur, but the friendly Z-52 was just an idiot

@@BigTallLankyDude Go and rewatch the video. The Mino used radar as soon as it was spotted. The Shima WAS spotted by the radar right after that. But since they didn't immediately turn away, the 2 DDs entered each other's spotting range as well.

This reminds me of a desperate fight I had in the Belfast, it was a ding dong match, but I managed to sink the enemy Bismarck, just before the game ended to take the win. I then forgot about the game for a few weeks, until I logged in one morning and there was a shiny new Nelson in my port. After much head scratching I worked out that I had entered a WG competition for the Highest base XP ( I think in a British ship) and when I checked my stats, It was that battle with 3,700 something, that had won me the Nelson. I then wished I'd had replays turned on, but alas I was stuck with just a few fleeting memories of the game!

At 08:05 to 08:12 Jingles states "the Enemy now Control 3 of the 2 caps". Love Jingles but you should know there is 3 caps and they control 2 yet you managed to swtch them around.... If i get targeted by a carrier in my battleship (around tier 9/10) I often die within the 2 first minutes of the game. Especially when there are 2. And we all know how good the AA/Speed/Turning circle is on most battleships......... And if you're unlucky, add submarine guided torpedo's to the mix.

Jingles, at 19:11, the enemy Thunderer didn't miss. Best _dodged._ The Minotaur's handling is just that good, and Best clearly knows as much as Yuro about how ships turn! StatsBloke is right about the friendly team's positioning. If you see most of your team congregating in a single area, especially over a long period of time, it's a red flag, and you need to bring your A game and get your packframe ready for a big carry... or decide not to bother, and play to maximize your XP earned. The good news is, the rest of your team won't be doing much damage, so there'll be more for you to farm, if you can stay afloat.

Neptune's fine - best DPM of any tier IX ship, just have to be careful with its smoke spotting if you use smoke. I've been using it with radar in ranked - have to be careful but its damage dealing capability if you get it right is massive.

When I first got my Minotaur, I immediately had to try the quick turn feature of being able to turn without losing any speed and was amazed. As far as I know, it's the only ship in the game that can do that.

This is how the British won the Matapan battle, they got tucked in, stopped, behind the islands, the Italians didn't . True naval tactics shown here I must say. Other unrealistic design features include getting to see an enemy ship from behind an island (or smoke) because another friendly ship or plane can see it. So you get to look out from the bridge and see all spotted enemy ships though your holographic display windows on the bridge instead of on a mini map type display as they have in modern ships.

just quick question Jingles - while it is a good advice to assume Minotaur has radar, how exactly in this case the Shimakaze was suppose to avoid being detected since Minotaur was spotted SECONDS before he used radar? and no, I wasn't in that battle, just trying to score some "well, actually Jingles" points :)

Always assume it has radar and play very cautiously until proven otherwise. Play nose-out or near islands for cover.

Fun fact about the Minotaur, it never had the guns it have in the game. It had the same guns as the Neptune. Also.. It should be a Commonwealth ship. The ship never served in the British navy. The ship name was set to be Minotaur while it was built, but it was transferred to the Royal Canadian navy when it was finished and renamed Ontario.

Great game for sure, but how did this generate more than 4k base xp? The percentage damage of the CV, the Thunderer and some of the Jinan and Shima had such an impact? Or was there a rework that changed some calculations? I have seen crazy games with all sorts of ribbons and damage before but never more than 4k. I would have certainly never guessed that much just watching this battle.

I play a Mino regularly... not always the most wisely. That Thunderer on the flank... I would've rushed it. Gone full power bow on and wiggled and zig and zagged until torp range. It's amazing what some enemy players do when you do the unexpected. They will sometimes freeze or do the exact wrong thing. The main gun shots from the Thunderer can be timed for evasion. The secondaries would hurt, but what fun. lol

Dat turret turn speed is the only thing about the Mino that I truly envy. Edit: Look at the map though, this is how 8/10 of my games develop. All team mates wanking in spawn waiting for someone else to spot so they can play shooting gallery with no risk. Best is the only ship in the front and he is a light cruiser. Everyone else just stack up and run away. Its pathetic and pissing me off just watching this replay.

Because you can get the Minos detection down to 9km and it's radar has a 10km range it's one of the few ships in the game that can radar trap DDs. Once you get spotted but you can't see what is spotting you just pop your radar and it's game over.

Just a note but thunderer HE is not safe for minotaur. Mino gets a 100mm exposed citadel belt, capable of bouncing all AP in the game, assuming it hits that and not the 16-19mm (forget which) armor everywhere else. Thunderer on the other hand gets 114mm of HE pen, from any angle meaning technically a minotaur can angle against a satsuma or yammy and take it on the belt for no damage, but thunderer can citadel it with HE from any angle where it can hit that belt.

Currently gridning my way up the British CL line. I'm doing it the hard way. Playing the Edinburgh as a radar cruiser. It's hard, and I don't do much damage but on those occasions when I do get a halfway decent team that pays attention, it's a lot of fun. I'm not looking forward to the Neptune....but I can't wait for the Mino.

Suggestion: don't play radar Neptune. It's too clumsy and big for it to work effectively. Minotaur is stealthier and handles better, and the two ships feel quite different overall.

Jingles! Minotaur is actually a CANADIAN ship! The minotaur class was given the to Royal Canadian Navy upon completion, and HMS Minotaur became HMCS ONTARIO - and served with the RCN up until the 60's, alongside the majestic class aircraft carrier - HMCS Bonaventure! Please help us grow awareness about the RCN so that we can finally get the public to support meeting our NATO spending commitments!

@@np34g Correct. The real life Minotaur- (or Swiftsure)-class were essentially Fijis with better fire control. The Minotaur as we see it in WoWs was never built.

Mino is by far my favourite ship. I play it with radar. There is no more satisfying than spotting a DD in smoke and sending down enough shells to kill it by the time the smoke appears above the stacks. Most Mino players I encounter with seem to use radar nowadays.
