In the USN submarine fleet, in my day, we called the narrative "plotting dots." A long scroll of paper, ruled down its length for degrees, gets all contacts plotted minute-by-minute, each assigned a specific color. The dots are then linked by lines to produce a continually representation of what every ship involved is doing. Annotations as to actions are inked in directly on the scroll. By the way, Rebecca is replicating the command action group found in every successful navy. Not at all impossible, but damned rare to find willing and capable shipmates in the gaming world. Massive respect!

The split roles running a ship reminds me a bit of a game called Artemis that we played at LAN parties in college. It was a Star Trek-y space combat simulator in which teams of four or five crewed a ship against other crews. Everybody had a specific role like pilot or engineer and had to relay information specific to their job to everyone else in order to effectively manage the whole ship. So for example the pilot could steer, manage speed, and see nearby ships/space stations/etc., but relied on the science officer to inform them about long range contacts and the broader strategic situation. The engineer could see data about ship systems and power and was responsible for shunting power around depending on what was needed (power to the engines, weapons, etc.). And then you had a captain, who would synthesize all this and make decisions about what to do and then relay those orders to the other crew members. It was a ton of fun but definitely stressful managing your own job while keeping everyone else apprised of information they needed to do theirs. So I have a lot of respect for Rebecca juggling similar responsibilities (with what sounds like a much smaller 'crew') while also being blind. Truly impressive.

A long time ago, youtuber theDRZJ featured an interview with a blind gamer. They certainly do exist. Guy, who was a French teacher full-time, enjoyed RPGs above all played solo through the Witcher games, assisted only by some specific software.

Whenever I see videos like this I appreciate what i have and am thankful for it. And at the same time a huge amount of respect of people being able to enjoy the same thing as "us normal folks". But what is normal? Perhaps because people that are "missing" senses we normally have, tend to make them more aware? +1 For the new admiral Rebecca in the Salt Miners fleet of our Gnome Overlord.

I was also going to say playing like that is actually more true to life if anything. I’ve always thought that a special coop mode of WoT or WoWS akin to this would be really interesting. So your platoon of 3 or 4 is actually just one tank but you each fulfil the different roles.

One thing I'm wondering about is if she also playing cruisers or destroyers. Sounds like it would be even more stressful, so I assume she tends to stick to battleships. Or maybe she's only playing those in Co-Op?
@ibnu9969

cruisers, maybe. destroyers are a bit too much, as you are supposed to be constantly moving at full speed at the front line, too much info to process at the same time

It would probably be too big a commitment to have her and her helper(s) have to stick to the intensive play schedule of the more active clans.

She's bloody amazing. I remember when I was a 10 year old kid in the mid 80's. There was a kid, a brother of a friend who was born without arms. Just two stumps about 4 inches long below his shoulders. He played Metroid on the NES with his feet, and he played it bloody well. He was the first kid in our little sphere of friends to beat Metroid in under 3 hours, revealing that Samus was a woman. Remember, this was way before internet so none of us knew. It was an amazing revelation. The word spread quickly around school and he actually had to do it again to prove it to some of the more sceptical kids in school that Samus was, in fact, a woman.

Uncle Jingles, I want to bring to your attention that this Blind woman literally pulled a "just dodge" at 12:42 . Even the enemy bombs are like "No, stay away...she's a monster!" (at the game). To be fair, I think her blindness actually forced her to learn to be a better "strategist" in a sense, not that I'm trying to insult her or take anything away, because everything you said was spot on. I mean, even though she's aiming via radar (seeing in the sense only through what her helper sees rather than direct Line of Sight), she's awesome at the game from the videos you've uploaded. I hope she sends more content in to you. I think it would be interesting to get her take on some of the ships as she might have a very different perspective of them given the amount of lag-time from all the coordination.

Yeah, I remember Rebecca. Hers is such a unique and cool way to play. (Wouldn't want to switch of course.) If she usually plays like that, her fears of holding the team back are indeed very much unjustified. I also just noticed that my job in the German Army has been a little bit similar. Just for a mortar company and far less responsibility.

I’m imagining her in a CIC listening to reports coming in and giving orders like an actual captain. “Ma’am, enemy Colorado spotted bearing 142, range 13km, heading approximately 260.” “Helm, ahead 2/3, left full rudder, steady course 165. Fire control, plot solution on enemy Colorado and engage at will with main battery.”

On the subject of people playing video games with disabilities, I'm reminded of a letter printed in an old issue of Nintendo Power, in which a guy praises the mad skills of his brother at SNES games like Super Mario World. The brother in question has no arms, so he has to use his toes to work the controller. Doesn't seem to slow him down, as he was quite capable of beating any game put in front of him. Just 'cause somebody has to compensate for a handicap, doesn't make them automatically bad at something.

Interesting, what you are describing as the principal warfare officer would be a Fleet Commander or Coordinator in Eve Online probably. They basically have to coordinate their own fleet with other fleets (sometimes being in 5 different channels at the same time) while also anchoring their own fleet (anchoring referring to the leadship being the point of reference for the rest of the fleet). And that in 3d.

A friend of mine is extremely near sighted / blind to the point of being technically "legally blind" but he plays WoWs - co-op mostly but occasionally randoms. He struggles of course - but he is rather stubborn. I am forever amazed watching him play given all of the obstacles he has to overcome each time. And thus, I am even more in Awe of this wonderful player - enjoying WoWs in spite of her Blindness.

HOW DID I MISS THIS ONE???? I am an assistant to people with disabilities and have worked with several blind people. They tend to be smarter, more aware and hyper-analytical in comparison to us normies. No wonder - they have to analyze and act upon the data they have (sound and touch mostly) whilst being optical-focused beings by evolution. In my experience, they are usually more aware of any social situation than people who can actually see. In short: they are amazing people and I love working with them. 🥰😃👍

In all fairness, this sounds really fun to do with 3 friends... - Have 1 person blindfold him/herself giving out orders. - Have 1 person sit there and tell what in the name of Lord Jingles is going on in the game. - Have 1 person control the rudder and engine. - Have 1 person aim and shoot. Heck, add another person and split up the rudder and engine work :^) Watch as chaos ensues.
