This comprehensive review looks back at every single action-packed round of a dramatic year of high-speed competition.
This is the complete story of how Finland's Tommi Makinen managed to retain his World Championship crown against the determined efforts of veteran Carlos Sainz, and the incredible five wins he took on his way to a third title.
The review follows the entire dramatic story, from Monte-Carlo to Great Britain, in amazing action footage, including plenty captured by in-car cameras.
The battle for the championship may have come down to a fight between Sainz and Makinen, but they aren't the only stars of this show - you're also treated to Colin McRae in winning style, the legendary Juha Kankkunen showing the advantage of consistency and Richard Burns, the man who would become England's first World Rally Champion, delighting the home crowd with victory on the last round.
This review features all that and more, including interviews with the stars, special features and some shocking crashes.

Such cruel luck for Sainz and Moyà. Blown engine with 500 meters to the finish? You couldn't make that up.

Maximum respect for Carlos, one of my favourite drivers ever, but don't forget the championship of 1992 when at Rac rally Auriol has been retired because a damaged spark when was 1st in championship and Carlos won. That's motorsport.

2:42 => When Red Bull sponsored Sainz (and Moya) before he headed to Dakar in 2006 and his son partnered with them until 2019.

I always remember this moment, so painful, so close. I always thought Carlos smashed the window not the Co driver

This dude is voiceover since 1998 up to now?! Wow! Who is the commentator of these videos and when he started working for WRC? You can hear this same voice still today on WRC videos.

Commentator is Mark James. Long line motorsport reporter. I think his first big tv appearance was in Top Gear motorshow that ran in 1994-1998. His voice can also be heard on these dukevideo WRC season reviews from 1995-1998 and BBC's rally coverage from mid 90s to early 2000s. Very likable voice in my opinion.

How the hell could they not simply push the car?

I think they could've actually pushed the car to the finish line.
@singleturbosupra7951
@singleturbosupra7951 2 года назад
From what I know it wouldn't have been enough to push to stage finish. In order to finish the rally and get the result you need to get to the parc ferme area, not just end of last stage.
@rodrigogonzalez4166
@rodrigogonzalez4166 2 года назад
@@singleturbosupra7951 they did finish the last stage. The car broke on the way to the parc ferme. Thats why Carlos had already "won" the championship until that happened

@@rodrigogonzalez4166 Nope. The car broke down few hundred meters before the end of last stage

Sainz was a good driver, but still... his irrogance towards Mäkinen before. It was so huge, I can't really help myself celebrating a lot because of Sainz's accident, because he did it much because of Mäkinen's accident earlier on.

King Carlos deserved that championship as much as Tommi did. He did everything he needed to do to win it. But the car let them down. He's a double world champion, you've got to be more than just good to do it twice and lose a third in those circumstances.
