The have a pit stop simulator at the factory, with a button somewhere in the room. Anytime anyone wanders past there and hits the button, the mechanics drop whatever they're doing and rush over to do a practice pitstop. That kind of unexpected, can-happen-anytime training must really help

They're trying to win. Having an elite pit stop crew is a competitive advantage.

Im guessing 1.5 seconds if you rushed it hard enough and werent worried about mistakes and werent under any pressure. Plus maybe add some Red Bull and a dose of adderall.

Depends on the engineering though because wheel hub design changes a lot of this. Also, change the tires size Ave weight and it throws off muscle memory. I don’t doubt a tire change pit stop in under 1 second one day.

I'd say 1.6-1.7 is the limit.. This is perfection, but the edge of perfection is a bit further away.. Not by much, maybe 0.15-0.25 seconds

I honestly believe that 1.7 seconds might be a limit. I don't have evidence but it's a strong gut feeling I have.

If fastest lap gets a point, why not fastest pit stop? Unfortunately there’s probably safety issues with incentivising time too much.

@@fenhen two reasons why it's a bad idea: 1. the Driver Championship points are only achieved by the driver and pit stops are made by the pit crew, not the driver - it wouldn't be a Driver Championship anymore. 2. since the fastest lap one point award was organised, the teams have started pitting their drivers for the last laps to get the point. no idea what would they do to achieve the fastest pit stop, but I know it would be risky.

COTTON Point 1... I’ve no idea what you’re trying to say. F1 has always been a team sport. The drivers championship is not won by the best driver, it’s the best driver/team combination. So even if a driver didn’t have to do anything in a pit stop (which is not the case) your point is totally invalid. Point 2, well yeah... I already said that.

Out of all the pit stops under 2 seconds last year all but 2 of them were by Red Bull, the other two were by Williams and they barely made it below 2 sec (1,97 and a 1,99 and those where the slowest under 2 seconds) and Red Bull had like five under 2 seconds
