In today's video, I explain the History and World Record Progression of the Any% category on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, from it's release in 2013 to the current day, February 2019.
If you would like to learn this speedrun, there is a beginner Any% tutorial you can find here: • Zelda: The Wind Waker ...
And if you would like to attempt the more advanced route with the Manual Super Swim, you can find a tutorial here: • Zelda: The Wind Waker ...
And if sequence breaks are not your thing, there is a Any% No Barrier Skip Tutorial which can be found here: • Video
Correction:
The times displayed 1:04:56 - 1:05:08 in the video had a slight mistake, here is a updated list:

Chris Beach it’s not stealing his idea though. He’s only one person, and his interest in speed runs only extends to specific games. He was never likely to make a video on wind waker speedruns, so I for one am happy videos like this exist and am happy people with different tastes in games are making videos on the history of speedrunning said games.

Often when summoning salt covers a game, he leaves out a lot of vital information that true world record holders of the game have. I can't think of a better person to make this video than Linkus or gym. Same goes for AverageTrey's videos for SMS, He did it better than Summoning salt would have. Summoning salt made a video for Sonic adventure 2, a game I run. The amount of detail he left out is astonishing. I feel like I could have done a better job despite my all time highest position on the leaderboard being 19th place, and current position being over 40th. I just know much more about the history of the game from spending 2+ years running it and interacting with the community.

What I really love about documentaries like this one are how they honor those who came before. Ruth, Ali, Gymnast. All went farther in their sport than any thought possible, but eventually their records were (or will be) broken. There is always one to surpass the titans of the past. Instead of the name on the record being casually changed and the limelight being all that matters, these documentaries allow us to remember every little step forward and the people who made them possible. Thank you for this, Linkus.

I feel there was a missed opportunity with item-sliding. Since it was discovered right before SGDQ, imagine the person planning on running WWHD at the event finding out about it, putting in the practice, and bopping WR by a considerable margin live.
@CZPC

Eh with a limited understandimg of item sliding without consistent practice, it might not save enough time to get WR, especially with only 1 attempt at a marathon.

Not specifically WW HD related, but I remember when Jiano had some big scheme on a speedrun back when most people were really only doing ALTTP, OOT, and MM speedruns. One night, Jiano busted out what he was working on: A speedrun of the original Wind Waker. It was so new to me, that I ended up staying up til 3 am to watch his like... 6(?) hour speed run of it, and it was glorious. I can't even remember what year that was, it was so long ago. I think Cosmo started getting into WW speedruns soon after. Then WW HD was released, and things have come so far. Really cool to see. Love progression videos like this.

WWHD and barrier skip in particular is what introduced me to speedrunning. What a community this is. I've been consistently blown away by how interesting the deconstruction of games is, and how friendly and skilled the people who do so are. You in particular Linkus (and Gymnast) are a great inspiration. I've only become more interested in WWHD and your channel as time has passed! I'm not much of a runner myself - I gave Sunshine a few tries and didn't have the dexterity for it, but I'm becoming increasingly motivated to get my hands on WWHD. I've tried to get my Dad's side of the family to watch your stuff, and met with some success since they're also Swedish. (Hi from Borås/Ulricehamn btw!) Keep up the great stuff, and I look forward to seeing more from you soon!!

Information-wise this is really solid, Linkus. I'd only say that perhaps work on your presentation. For instance, although the lines are pre-recorded, there are several moments where you say "um" and "uhh," and pauses where you trip over your words, which suggests to me that perhaps you were trying to do few takes and didn't want to re-record. But it comes across as being somewhat low effort, even if that isn't truly the case. Besides that, having long stretches of just narration with no background audio makes it feel a bit lifeless. This is a long video so I know providing a soundtrack for the whole thing can be an issue, but even if it were just ambience without a specific song that would help live it up a bit. Sometimes the opposite problem is true however, where some clips seem to have audio for no apparent reason? (20:20) Other things could have been significantly cut shorter, such as Girtana's video (27:57). Also the following video is a good example of one that probably would have been better suited for commentary than showing so much of it for so long (51:41). In another case, your commentary wasn't synced with the clip you were commentating, where-in you're explaining the clip well after what you're explaining had already occured (35:10). Regardless, I enjoyed this very much, I look forward to seeing more produced content like this and seeing improvements!

Michael Flatt why shouldn’t he be proud of something he spent months on? I might not watch it but this might be his way of getting enough views to be picked up by the RU-vid algorithm

I feel like speedrunning any% down to sub 1 hour for any game is an inevitable thing that will always eventually happen. It's just a matter of time because speed runners are incredible

It would be cool to see a World Record Progression video by the main speedrunners of various games. Would also help people who aren't familiar with games understand the history behind them.

I couldn't guess Linkus is from the same country as me... Saw it now when looking him up at speedrun.com after seeing this pleasant and well made video. My English is bad and might not hear differences that well, but this Linkus-dude doesn't sound like your typical swede on YT speaking English imo =)

I didn’t realize people complained about the long travel times, I thought they were somewhat mesmerizing when I played this game when I was younger because how expansive the ocean was, but I guess I can see where they are coming from looking back on the game
