They make even better ones now. That's why the men's records keep getting broken and why some of the women's do too, (Masterkova's was recently broken.)
@@MrMusic238 And they aren't fully juiced now ? With the financial rewards on offer to gold medallists there will always be people on the juice and those who aren't on it will go on it to keep the playing field 'level'.
@@carolina5131 they make steroids that are able to be hidden better from tests. but they are not juiced to the levels they were in the 80s. They basically transformed the women in to men. It's just not the same.
But back then I was a young lad, I remember getting her autograph at Crystal Palace and she was very pleasant and smiley. I also thought athletes like Koch and Marlies Gohr were great and back then we never really thought about drugs, we just thought they were amazing athletes trained at East European sports academies, the envy of the west!
Of course, I was also a kid in the eighties and I remember watching the 1986 Euro champs, the 1987 World championships or the 1988 Olympics and marveling at what I considered to be super-athletes. In fact, I was so gullible (and still a kid) that when Germany reunified shortly afterwards, I thought they would be unbeatable in athletics or swimming. Hell, I even remember Bob Kersee claiming that Flo-Jo could go under 47 seconds in the 400 meters, clock 10.20-10.30 in the 100 meters and record another astronomical time in the 200 and thinking "wow, what a superwoman!". We were so naive back then...
@@MrLoaded2012 Tbh if Flo-jo focused on the 400 I think she could be the 400m record holder, though not sub-47. Training for 100 & 20 she's managed a low 48 400m split meaning she was likely capable of a high 48 in a "proper" 400 without specifically training for it.
+idontsignin Actually 23.2 isn't that fast of an opening. Almost every female athlete goes out in 23. The man strength however comes in very handy in the last 200m.
@@j.c.n9718listen fool. There was no Qatari athlete in Doha 2019. Salwa Eid Naser runs for Bahrain and after that race she was laid out flat on the track for a few minutes. I don't know if you're a liar or an idiot in the extreme, but whatever it is, stop.
they should have more 300m events at diamond league, the world record,is ana guevara,of mexico,35.30 A.and second on the list is kathy cook .35.46,not at altitude ,just show what a brilliant athlete she was.
Amazing what PEDS can do to an athlete. No other women's 400m runner has ever come close to Kratochvilova's time of 47.99, save for a doped Marita Koch in 1985. That's a staggering 30 years. The sports authorities should seriously consider wiping out or erasing all world records in athletics before the implementation of more stringent doping tests from year 2000. Even the present winning time for the women's 400 metres at the Rio Olympics set by Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas stands at 49.44s. That's a staggering 1.5 seconds behind Kratochvilova!
To this day I am convinced that is a man...they way they run....and did you notice that the camera speeds past them? the hair pits and every thing I mean back in the 80s I was only just aware of sex changes etc...and the 1st thing I said when I saw "her" was Thats a bloke! its got no boobs ffs!
My mum said it was very common that athlets from czechoslovakia were cheating, using anabolics distributed from Rusian Federation. Many of them died quite young, suffering from cancer, problems with kidney, liver, heart.. Athlets didnt have much of a choice. If someone wanted to attend in professional sport (be it someone from rusia or some satelite/occupied country like czechoslovskia) they were automaticaly fed by this garbage.
@@dtulip1 It's a woman. That's the effects of the androgens they doped her up with. It shrank her breasts to pecs and gave her the muscles of a man. Some of these effects did go away after she retired and stopped taking the steroids, but some were permanent.
Your description is FALSE. The 400m from Canberra in 1985 is the fastest race of all time since Koch ran 47.6 WR and Vladykina ran 48.27 (currently 4th best)
Yeah, but it's not like they are clean today either. And remember Marion Jones? Or take a 2021 case of SAFP who "suddenly" as an older athlete comes out and runs career best times despite having been the pinnacle of womens speed from 2007 - 2015 or so. That is NOT a normal progression or new shoes or better track surfaces. They just have better masking agents now, where they used to pay bribes to have tests thrown out.
The athletes in lanes 1 and 3 were clearly taking something to have such masculine physiques. The winner of the 2012 Olympics had a time over one second slower than in this 1983 race so go figure.
@@MrStevecro because she’s a 800 m. Runner. Which is the oldest record standing (set by this same Kratochvilova in 83 I believe) but Semenia was steadily coming closer and closer to that 800 m. Record, a couple more years with her high test levels and she would be very close.
This is my imagination of what's being said between Kocembova and Kratochvilova immediately after they cross the finish line in first and second place, at the 2:08 mark: Kocembova whispers in Kratochvilova's ear: "Dude, you're the man! Seriously, you ran balls to the wall the entire lap!" Kratochvilova replies to Kocembova as they begin their victory lap: "Thanks sonny boy, now it's time to put your big boy pants on, we got some medals to collect!" Aah the 1980's, when Eastern bloc women were built like Western bloc men. Good times, good times.
The world record is 47.60 since 1985. By Marita Koch. And Femke Boll (although a magnificent athlete) will never come close to that. Sadly, but that's the way it is ...
@@gdr205 Yes, performance-enhancing drug taking in sport is still rife. We'll never be rid of it. I don't think 'state-run ' drug programmes - like the one that existed in the GDR - exist today, but there ARE countries who I believe do NOT carry out a rigorous random drug testing programme, presumably because those countries see medals as prestigious - exactly as the GDR did all those decades ago.
Kratochvilova is a white version of Semenya and/or Mutola. While chemical assistance was doubtless involved (as with all her rivals), there was something natural there as well.
You are stupid. Jarmila Kratochvilova is woman. Semenya is not genetically woman. This is big diference!! Only everyone doped at the time of 70-80s and today is doping too. Someone caught her in doping, NO!! so shut up. Marita Koch was doped 200% and Florence Griffith-Joynerová was doped on 300%
Thank you Sir, I've made this assessment as well. I however believe that since those two are accepted, we should accept Semenya as well. In the past those athletes had to drop trou and an eye test would suffice. I doubt the GDR athlete would pass a modern drug screening, but Semenya has so let her run.
+pumelo1 What test did Kratochvilova get other than an eye test to prove she was female? You are the one here who is acting too young to know the level of testing that was carried out back then. All they did back then was get taken into a restroom and their genitals validated, you have the Internet Google it. Imagine how crazy it would be for this woman to be tested and no anomalies found, no dope, no genes? You're being ridiculous.
I was really confused since I was looking for the WOMENs 400 m world record and saw these men 🏃 Then I read the title over and over again and still saw men running finally I realized hey it’s the 80s Europeans
The world record is 47.60 since 1985. By Marita Koch. And Femke Boll (although a magnificent athlete) will never come close to that. Sadly, but that's the way it is ...
Did they ever come to a conclusion after testing Semenya? I read that it was determined that she's a hermaphrodite whose testes hadn't dropped and didn't have a womb and ovaries.
Marita Koch ran 47.60. with this time she can beat at least 98% of all male runners around the world. Just think about that. running under 48 is still almost an impossibility for women elite runners, even today. at this pace the record will not be beat for at least another 30 years.
No one buys Flo Jos records who had followed her career. Bolt was incredible almost from the moment he stepped on the track. Koch and Krat have letters complaining about the amount of drugs they got from their doctor! 2 Frauds...just like Flo Jo.
the only problem is that THIS ISNT the fastest women's 400m of all time. there's that pesky fact. you'd think that the World Athletic's official channel could at least get that right. SMH.
David Coleman says "Just look at the build of Kratochvilova, she looks like a field event athlete!"... She looked like that for many chemically assisted reasons, none of them due to B12 injections ;)
@@kurman4749 Unfortunately where's money to be made and insane sponsorship deals signed, chancers and cheats will always pollute the sporting arena. As it stands, the Kenyan athletes are doing their best to drag T&F, into the sewer.
Is she celebrated though? Krotochvilova's records have been questioned for a while now, she was most likely a part of Eastern European doping scheme. So, to speak bluntly, a cheater.
She's intersex meaning she has both chromosomes. So why does she compete against woman? Why not race the guys? You know the answer to that question. She also lives her life like a man. Dresses like one, acts like one in interviews with her spouse.
