Anybody else wondering (and already knowing the answer !) what happened to the (east) German athletes since the 80's ? No German in a global leading position nowadays.
No more Gohr or Stecher or Wockel or Drechsler or Voight or Koch or.......because no more boarding schools where athletes are fed Turinabol from day one!😂😂
Given that Russia and Germany are now non existent in track talent it's proof positive they they were dirty beyond belief. No progeny and they've been repeatedly banned for years after that for doping and USA has not.
@@geraldfindon827 There was no British team in that final in the first place (or an Irish one for that matter). As for the Soviets and East Germans, all boosted by their respective regimes state sponsored drug schemes.
Kiss my white ass. Blacks have been propped up and supported and covered for by powers that be because the Jamaican track program and USA track program are both full of PEDS and have been for years.
The East Germans were always my favourite team. Sure they doped, but who didn't. Say what you want, they were special. Marita Koch and Heike Drechsler and Irina Privalova are my favourite track stars. Long live East German sprinters
@RFSA88 Yes Pam Marshall, she use to trade info with other athletes on drugs eg. the Charlie Francis athletes and the Bob Keerse athletes (who was Pam's coach).
Not relly..marion jones started using in late 90s and NEVER got caught..she confess. I wonder how many others are in the same situation. I think its a level playing field..always been.
If you want a serious reply, something like say testosterone is already in abundance in a man, so adding more would yield small improvement if any. However, as testosterone is scarce in a woman, adding some to an already world class athlete could yield records that still haven't been broken.
well.actually not really..if u look at their relay team, its almost the same prson year after year (except those who retired of course). In 1988, Dreschler is the fastest 100m runner for them but still not included in the relay - they stick to their usual team - gladisch, behrendt, auerswald, gohr.
Maybe so, Ilona Slupianek was the only East German who got caught in competitions. But In case of Americans, there are some exceptions; Pam Marshall, Diane Williams, Antonio Pettigrew didn't get caught and they had confessed use of doping. Also the BALCO-case happened quite accidentally, I think.
I miss these strong European teams, I know they were drugged up, but it added more colour USSR, GDR, USA, great stuff. At least the jamaicans are keeping things interesting in their battle with the US.
The Soviets and East Germans were pumped with drugs. A never ending stream of white women record holders that instantly disappeared after they were caught doping. US had a few but nowhere near the level of the Soviets and E. Germans. They even destroyed the samples so that later tests could not be performed.
@@douglasraddi4872 That's a really broad statement. You can find exceptions to anything. No one is or has been dirtier than East Germany and Russia. Drug testing has vastly improved and Russia was completely banned. It's one thing to have a few rogue violations. It's another thing to have entire teams test positive and proof of that is Russia has since never been able to put together any runners of any substance. They even looked drugged. More like transgendered dudes running with makeup.
Nope , it was before DRUG TESTING became a thing. ALL the women who beat the Jamaicans eventually tested positive for performance enhancing substances.
jussayin mipeece Its well known that Jamaica is doping too, a lot of jamaican athletes already tested positive Asafa Powell, Nesta Carter. I am sure Jamacains were doping back then as well but i suppose their training and sport programm was not even close to that from the GDR.
That was an absolutely awful exchange from the Americans on the second to third leg. Awful. Why didn't the incoming runner move outside to pass the baton? Real lack of concentration there. It may not have mattered in the end but they gave up any hope to push the Soviets in part because of that.
The same GDR squad in this video (Neubauer, Emmellman, Muller, and Busch), is the one that just one year later at the Olympics in Seoul would be totally overhauled by the USSR and USA.
If you look at their individual times for each events, they perform almost similar in 1987 and 1988. the only reason is other countries perform better during the Olympics. Take this even for example, the GBR clock almost similar time (3:18) whereas the URS and USA dropped from 3:19 in 1987 to 3:15 !!!
@@smswaff1 or the other teams improved their medical staff? Could not be? Well, your point of view depends on the propaganda you are listening to. But for sure athletes like Flo-Jo Griffith-Joyner for example improved their performances by intense training sessions ;-) (and she is dead now because she used less medicine than the GDR and USSR athletes who are still alive.) ;-) Nice Hypocrisy
Honestly it’s good to see others countries win as well I hate the fact now a day u only see either USA or Jamaica come on or when u watch soccer u know the final is either going to be Brazil Germany France I will always cheers up others unkown countries like mile 5000 10000 keneya and Ethiopia Nothing against those know countries just I would love to see others and cheer them up
The question most track and field fans were asking was what happened to the GDR women the following year at the Olympics in 1988. The GDR women swimmers were dominant in Seoul, but their track and field stars were not.
The men's program was always separate from the women's and less effective. Run by different people within the GDR. Read Charlie Francis' "Speed Trap" for his personal talks with GDR coaches of the time. Not every year was a banner year for the GDR, especially after other countries and athletes caught on to the NECESSITY of doping in order to remain competitive.
Jack Weger Especially the Americans and the Sovjets had caught with the East Germans between Rome and Seoul. East Germany still won a lot of medals, but they were not as dominant in track & field as they used to be.
Actually don’t think it was about closing the gap between Rome and Seoul. It was later revealed by USA Anti Doping who retested drug samples from the 1984 Olympics that lots of the Americans were doping then. If a number of the medal winners were dirty in LA84, it’s reasonable to believe they were just as dirty here at Roma87
They had good results but with Flo Jo being there, GDR women had no chance in the sprint (100m 200m) still they won 2 bronzes. In the 400 the big favorite Marita Koch had retired already 2 years before, yet the won silver. Gold and silver in the 800m ... So they had good results overall, is just that flo jo overshawed them i think.
They lost both their star sprinters to retirement in 1987. (Both Jarmila Kratachvilova and Tatiana Kocembova called it quits). Without them, the Czechs had no team
So Team drugs win, another Team drugs take silver, the US in 3rd, Canada in 4th, West Germany 5th. Are these medals ever going to get redistributed to their rightful owners?
@@jussayinmipeece1069 No they beat because they were the best at that time. Only the doped up Eastern Europeans could beat. Just as Black American women did in the 60s pre-steroids.🤔
Oh..the good old days of East German and Russian Doping! Some of them had that much testosterone.. They were barely even women... Sustained and Systematically enhanced. They were very good at it.
@@jensolepoulsen4377. women's 4 × 400 relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 2004 Athens - USA won on Doping. Officially confirmed. but medals tu USA scammers. left.
Carter had to make a decision, on whether or not to send our American Team over to the Soviet Union. You may have forgotten, that the Cold War was going on. If you were President at this time, what would you have done!!! It was not an easy choice, but in terms of him being useless or him making a right choice, I would have went with keeping them home, also. If something would have happened to our Team, then he would have been blamed. Food for thought.
@@waynehentley4332 In general, this would've been true. Evelyn Ashford would've done well coming off her 1979 World Cup wins - she had already decided to become a "player" on the world stage. Jodi Anderson may have snuck in for a long jump or pentathlon bronze. Kate Schmidt, too, or Karin Smith in the javelin. Mary Decker may have gotten a medal, but probably not. As for the rest of the team, they'd been lucky to be in the semis.
@@kurtfrancis4621 learn your History. Americans were the women to beat, especially Black Americans because they dominated the entire decade of the 1960s in Track and Field. American Men kicked enough ass to keep the American Press. Your stuck on these women, had the Eastern Bloc Countries not used steroids Black America woman would have continued their domination of Track & Field. White American women would have dominated swimming. It wasn't just the East-Germans. Bulgarians, Czechoslovakian, Poles, Yugoslavia all were doped up during 70s a d 80s. It was the Cold War.
