Awesome rescue guys. After a flyaway I put my octocopter, complete with DSLR camera, in a lake a while back. It seemed hopeless for a while, but I wasn't about to give up. It took me 5 days to locate it and retrieve it, but when I did, the feeling was incredible. It is restored and flies to this day! From NC, USA, thanks for your dedication to the cause!
Way to go Guys. only just getting into the quads, but this was awesome, and what a good gesture for another pilot. Thanks for sharing the fun, and glad all worked out.
That Tricopter Pilot was amazing. I am so impressed at his pilot skills. I am wanting to see more video's of his amazing skill set!. I have watched this several times. Snoopw111, you have my admiration!
This is an awesome bit of flying and i fully understand your reasoning for doing it this way. Handy that you had a spare channel for carry and release the rope. I agree that this is a great showing of what good a drone can do, but I think the public will not start to really come around until we save a person with them. Still, if we arrange public events where people can come and see them, and learn about them, it will start to break down some walls.
Rob Nielsen Thanks Rob, and a very good point there you make, I think people are coming around to the idea but the media is gaining more by keeping it on the negative side of things, but we have to keep pushing because this is the future.
I've been considering building a large tricopter with a gimbaled FPV cam for rescuing stuck 250 class racers... I had no idea you'd already done it! Thanks for being my pre-emptive/retroactive proof of concept!
Outstanding great work will share and support! I just bout my first 3. I am starting at the nano level mini then the big leagues. Again awesome to see folks come together as one smiling and helping each other. 1 love
Haters gonna hate not matter what you do but great job on the rescue. Proof that responsible operators are out there and showing what the true heart of the hobby is. All you critics sit up and take notice because this is only a fraction of what this can be used for and I bet that if you ever needed to have one of these guys send a drone up to look and see what's happened to a loved one trapped somewhere inaccessible, you'd be begging us to help you out.
awesome video, truly a life saver for that gentleman, i dont know what i would do if i lost my quad so close yet soo far away without a way to retrieve it. im sure this ordeal caused lots of sleepless nights! great job on the retrieval.
Thanks for your kind words. The news is always geared to get the public worried and scared, that way they maintain control of our minds, so stuff like this you wouldn't find hitting the news often.
Im so happy for that guy! I know when mine was in a tree I was really bummed out. But when I got it down I was so excited like this guy. good for them.
Great job man you are terrific!!! I'm going to get a quad copter soon, but ready out of the box...! Always wanted to have one since I was a kid, now's the time for a Phantom 2 with GoPro and FPV.Hope it's good?! Keep up the good work and spirit, thanks for the inspiration!!!
superb skills, superb set up (wish i had same), mega expensive i bet but worth every penny, we need to see more of this type of video so people understand how they can be used in the hands of a pro.
I know they're remaking "Thunderbirds", but these guys actually did it without the the trick CGI. Just like the original 1960s Gerry Anderson series. Awesome.
You know, as much as this video is kind of geared towards the hobby side of RC aircraft, it does show the potential of them being used as low cost surveillance and rescue type devices too.
Snoop your a credit to fpv flyers out there. Fpv does have a purpose, Simple rescue missions like so. Using it as a platform for search and rescue up mountains where it would take hours to find someone and climb vital minutes that could mean someones life. The possibilities are endless for fpv. This shows it has its purpose. Great flying
snoopw111 should meet up some time maybe. Currently building a custom TBS quad scratch build. Apm 2.6 guts. Gps. 3dr radio. Full fpv. I live near Dartford
snoopw111 go on facebook and look for a page called sky sessions. Fpv page. Ive just started it up. Im trying to get uk fpv'ers together on the page so we can all be admined and upload our videos as a collective on facebook. When youve hit like. Give the page a message ill add u
No FPV video of the rescue for some reason.. Makes me think they just called a fire truck. And did they just yank it off the top with the rope and let it fall, or did he lift it off and carry it with his drone?
There is a chest / box on top of the castle. Would be cool if there was a missions to check it out. The chest was next to the copter on the roof of it.
Snoop...you da man dude! GOOD ON YA sir!!!! \Well done indeed. Even I was cheering when they caught it in the blanket. I now know of two VERY happy multirotor fliers...YOU and the owner.
Great skill retrieving that quad snoop. Watching your video actually is what will finally push me into getting a Tri. Could you point me in the direction for the specs and or drawing for yours. I fly giant and mid size warbirds mostly, with a few foamies jets and WW2 planes. Been on the fence for awhile guess its time to jump off. Or you could post the link for the Rcgroup thread so we could PM. Thanks.
***** Thanks glad you like it, I don't have a drawing or building plans of mine, its all home built, but lots of info on RCgroups in different threads, as there is no specific one, after you decide on what you want to build you can pm on any help you need
Not sure is mentioned, but do you see the live video of your quadcopter thru those google looking glasses?, with what like looks like an antenna connected to them? If you have any feedback and or model number... much appreciated
I think what you did was awesome!!! I love it when people help others. Two questions...how did you drop the rope and how do you adjust the camera angle while in flight? Thanks and great job !!!!
is that a wooden/metal trunk on the top of the wall? it looks like it next to the stranded quad. i wish there was castle's to explore here in the states
Nice video, Snoopw111 :-) what components did you use to drop the hook? I'm guessing you had a relay switch connected to a channel on the flight controller, but what about the release mechanism, was it some sort of servo, whats it called and where can I order one from? Thanks in advance.
caitgems1 Thanks buddy, no i dont build them for a living, wish I could would be a dream job lol, I love science and technology, love building things, and been an engineer it all comes like second nature to me, its easy stuff man.
snoopw111 Lol, no mate-you make it look easy. I`m just getting into it at the moment, i have a diploma in aeronautical engineering and am obsessed with flight. I used to dream of this kind of technology when i was a kid growing up next to Prestwick airport, Scotland. Could you recommend a source for educating myself regarding this incredible hobby? Many thanks.
Your a star man .. Have you considered international rescue for stranded RC's ? Lol Looking at your baby I reckon if you could have got a little closer you could have created enough downdraft to blow that of the tower 😄 ... In all seriousness good job fella , it's nice to see people helping out others when they can , warms the cockles and gives people faith in human nature .. Ps I'll probably be needing your services soon just got into quads etc ... Really interested in FPV racing but gotta get a few flight hours in first , which I think I shall do today 👍
Fantastic video and a fantastic bit of engineering. I do have one suggestion for you and anyone else who has to try to duplicate this feat. If you will tie what is known as a "tag line" to the recovery hook (it only needs to be a lightweight 30 LB test fishing line) then someone on the ground crew can hold onto that tag line to prevent the oscillation that the hook experienced do to the wind and downdraft from the rescue unit. They can even assist a bit by guiding the hook to the target.
