I can't wait to see your second review of this gun. I've been using it now for a month straight and I'm getting glass with PPG hs clears like dc4000, etc. I never really paid attention to the "air pressure at the cap" as mentioned on tech sheets but, funny thing, the Dv1 sprays best for me when the digital gauge reads anywhere from 11-14psi. Sometimes I go up to 17psi. I basically treat the Dv1 like an LVLP.

I tried the 1.2 didnt like the slow application. Then tried the 1.3 and instantly fell in love. Must say i prefer it over the ws400. Fluid and fan wide open and 1.5bar on the digital gague. Lays it down fast and flat

I have the GTI Pro Lite and Iwatta WS 400. I use each for different purposes. I like both. I think for the money , they are the best offerings out there. Sata is too big and heavy, and I don’t like the trigger either. Great video Brother....💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

We tested this gun out and got the same results. We kept trying different settings and tips. We finally went to a 1.2 tip at 29lbs and it sprayed really nice. We were also using a very high solid clear. The only problem was we had a lot of overspray which ended up wasting a lot of clear.

Nice Brian it’s nice to see I was just actually looking at the DV one bass gun and I want to see this video because I heard you had said something that you should’ve given the DV one clearcoat gun a little bit more time to play with it so I want to check out what was going on with that and thanks for the information I actually have and I Wata for clear it’s a great gun but nice to know I would like to know more about the DV1 basecoat gun how that goes up against Sata jet that’s what I’m using for my base right now it would be great thanks for the great Information as usual Love to watching you work.🤙

Best gun I've ever used...by far...is the old school Devilbiss MBC siphon gun. Tried many a gun, all of which will do the job, but none bring out the best in a paint like those old MBC's. Would love to have a few of them in my arsenal.....

@coreykeele7115
@coreykeele7115 2 года назад
Quick tip if you want it 🤷🏻‍♂️ inlet pressure and the pressure reading on the digital screen on a DV1 are different on all 3 of mine inlet 20psi on a regulator is 10 psi on the digital regulator I talked to a rep and he said it’s closer to the cap and is closer to cap pressure so the next thing is if your rep told you 18 psi where did he want the 18 psi to read at on a regulator fitting ? Or on the digital regulator ? 18 psi sounds a little aggressive for cap pressure when I sprayed auto base and auto clear all the TDS sheets always said 10 psi max cap pressure for hvlp applications I think it’s something you could probably have experimented with but at the same time different guns suit different painters personally when I got my first DV1 I got rid of my satas and Iwatas and now that’s all I use

It really comes down to what you want in a spray gun. I have the Sata 5000, Iwata ws400, Sagola 4600, the Devilbiss prolite and the dv1. They all work great. The Dv1 has a finish the the others can't match. But it is slower.

Just used the dv1 clear with ppg ec520. Slow reducer and on some large jobs. Phenomenal finish. I feel like it's a speed and overlap issue. Tighten the overlap and slow down a tick and you'll get the same results if not better than the ws400. I understand slowing down isn't what a lot of guys are looking for but that's just the difference in preference. I've got one of the 5500x I nozzles, two ws400, and numerous others I've cleared with. For things I want flat flat I'll use a dv1 for speed I'll use my sata (or gm factory peel). Psi was on the money though. Give it another go and try slowing down just a touch.

Glad I’m not alone. I’m a bit more disappointed that dramatic changes weren’t done to the gun to automize the clear better. I feel like it lacks the backbone to do the job. It’s almost as if they just changed the color, sprays so similar to the regular dv1.

The DV1 and The Sagola 4600 are both guns I’m very interested in running.
@BigMountainCustomRC
@BigMountainCustomRC 7 месяцев назад
You didn't give the DV1 a fair shake. The DV1 demands that you slow down your gun speed because of it's slower delivery rate. You blasted through 2 coats like you were off to the races and then, ironically, you slowed down your gun speed by at least half when using the Super Nova. I agree, the Super Nova is a beast but if you slowed down your gun speed with the Iwata to where you need to be with the DV1, you'd run that to the floor, specially if you spray from the bottom up. Slow down your gun speed with the DV1 and spray so gravity is to the dry side of your wet line and that gun will surprise you. I know from first hand experience, if you use the C1+ aircap, slow your gun speed down to about 1/3 of what you'd normally move at, take your time, watch your wet edge and the DV1 will be your new favorite clear gun. I have Iwata's, Sata's, 3M's and old school DeVilbiss guns....the DV1 takes some learning but slow n steady wins the race...{I'd rather take a little longer and end up with a super flat, glasslike finish than power through it just to save a few pennies. Just my work ethic.} Out of curiosity, why do you not like spraying 3 coats of clear? In my shop, if 3 coats isn't your minimum, you're just ripping off the customer, and I'd fire you if i caught you. I know that seems to be the norm lately with the young guns, however, I've been in the custom paint world for over 45 years, and i believe in giving the customer full value for what they're paying...but, again, that's just my work ethic. Anyway, that's my 2 pesos....maybe it isn't worth much more than that.

Hey! I am using sikkens and running 1.4 tip. Is a thicker basecoat. I find it works best with the 1.4. Clearcoat 1.4 as well. Temp during spraying is 78-85. I use slow everything. Around 34 psi on ws400. Dv1 around 16
@Dbuilt1
@Dbuilt1 4 года назад
Thats 29psi @ the inlet is recommended. On your DV1 digital gauge thats going to read 22psi ( essentially add 7 to what you see on your DV1 gauge to get the true inlet pressure. Im not sure why they did that but its in the manual. I own or have owned every devilbiss, Iwata & Sata for the past 20 years and Id have to agree with you about the WS400 HD. its my go-to gun when shooting HS clears,(thats what I spray 95% of the time) but I just wanted to point out that your Iwata WS 1.4HD is "pumping" out 240ml/mn of fluid @29lbs psi inlet and full trigger. I have yet to get my hands on the new DV1 clear gun but Im fairly confident its not even breaking 200ml/mm in a 1.4 so that information alone has to have you consider your overlap, speed and distance are going to be huge factors in how the gun performs next to your Iwata with the same conditions & clear. Your review is well done and I can appreciate the honesty! I hope the specs are better clarified for anyone interested. Keep up the great work!! DV1-C1 Recommended Air Pressure at Digital Gauge 1.5 bar (22 psi) = 29psi inlet
@PaintSociety
@PaintSociety 4 года назад
What an impressive post and you are very correct. So many factors do go into the design of the gun, thus meaning you need to find your sweet spot with every gun. In hindsight, it is a great gun, will it take over the market? I’m not definite on that.

So you're used to shooting your Iwata and you sprayed a DV1 the same and it didn't turn out the way your Iwata sprayed...amazing. You have to slow down A LOT. Once you use the DV1 the way it needs instead of spraying like your Iwata you might have a whole different view. I tell ya what slow down and spray the DV1 like a DV1 and then spray your Iwata like you spray with a DV1...you'll wish for a dry finish as you're sanding runs the length of whatever you sprayed.

The needle/nozzle of these guns are not equal. Even though manufacturer might give a size in millimeters you would find that some of these are smaller or larger than specified. These manufacturers need to get their act together and say exactly what the size is and what they recommend for your environment and material/viscosity/etc. you put down. The paint reps assume a certain size so take what they say with a grain of salt, especially with a brand new gun. The tip size you have on this gun would probably work well in a cooler environment.

I used the DV-1 CC gun the other day using Nason Select clear 465 which is reduced 20% (on the data sheet to do so). I run the fan full, then in 1/4 turn, fluid wide, 22 psi on the digital read out. Shot two coats and used 75% overlap on each. The Nason clear is not the ultra expensive show car stuff, but the gun laid it down like glass and was very forgiving for runs. Easy to use compared to cheaper guns I have used. I'd love to see you follow this up, but certainly get it if you don't. Thank you for your honesty. Rare these days.

Dave Gatt yes 1.4 in the ws400. Handles it very well. Used the 1.2 1.3 and 1.4 in the dv1 clear and just wasn’t sold. Check my video tomorrow set to release at 3pm est.

Hey bro a have the ws 400 so I know what time it is but always here about the lph400 and the wait but will like your thoughts on it for base coat over the ls400 .
@PaintSociety
@PaintSociety 4 года назад
I have never used the ls400 but I have used the lph400 with the orange cap for basecoat and it works very well. It is a bit slower and it won’t throw too much material but it gets the job done. I personally love the dv1 basecoat gun.

I use Iwata and Satas and to me the Iwatas are easier to keep clean . I don’t like Sata’s inner plastic bezel thats sits inside before placing your fluid nozzle in, its plastic and traps a lot of junk in between the cut outs . The older Satas like the 2000 series were great guns and easy to keep clean . I love Iwatas and are my first choice and second are the Sata 5000 series and 3000 .I tried devilbiss you used in your video and is great for high metallic colors but feel it uses more material for covering and it’s a bit heavy specially with that weird rectangular digital gauge. I don’t know how long that gauge will last while using a gun cleaner for so long and if it will leak air in the future . Devilbiss guns in my opinion Spears beautiful in the beginning but after a year and a half it doesn’t feel the same anymore where as my Iwatas still spray the same as say one .
