by far the best replacement vid ive seen in all the years ive been doing this! You dont rush all the moments and you talk calm, aswesome man! thanks alot!
This video is excellent, thank you so much. I successfully repaired my Xperia Z3 with your guidance, and I saved tons of cash (new screen is $50 Cdn from Amazon, but local repair shops wanted $300 to replace the screen!)
Thanks Ninja. I followed both of your presentations and fixed my Z3, the first time I ever attempted to undertake such a task. well done and easy to follow. You've saved me $$$$$$
I have just completed the repair, everything's works beautifully and I'm feeling proud of myself. Thanks ninja for the huge help:) saved around £50 doing it myself!
Thanks so much for the informative video. I managed to replaced the screen on the Z3 with your tutorial, it works flawlessly now, however my the back camera is just displaying black when i tried to use it now, i was very careful not to rip any flex cable and made sure every connection was firmly back in place, would you know what could have gone wrong?
Great instructional video. Really helped me out doing this for the first time. Had to mute though because I couldn't stand listening to him say 'a'hesive'.
Awesome guide you have here! Just a couple questions: are the displays purchased on Amazon the exact same part that came with the phone? Where did you obtain the display from?
Hi Brad, great video and connected my new screen without the adhesive to power up and check functions unfortunately the touch part of the screen doesn't work. The display is fine and the phone works fine with a mouse connected. Is there a check i can do. Des
@Phone Ninja Thanks for this wonderful tutorial.Just a quick question I followed everything and but for some reason my screen is lifting off fromm the right side. The left side is a perfect stick. Can I just use heat for a bit longer and hold it to stick?Or do I have to change the adhesive again Thanks
Awesome videos, thank you so much! :) To anyone replacing the screen, take care when you put the new screen on and press on the margins to glue it together...i cracked a new screen by applying too much pressure on the top part. It fact, it was not too much pressure, but the screen was cheap quality and it cracked so easy :) For the rest, it works perfectly by following the instructions!
ninja great video!!!!!! but i have a little problem i turned on the phone and its stuck on the sony logo. i did leave the phone unused for 5 months. wondered if you had an idea of what i can do to fix it?
Hey bud . I just started following your tutorials. Very informative quality videos. I've repaired alot of iPhones of all models. I have done a bit of work on Sony Xperia models. You may appreciate why I ask where you get your adhesive for the screens. I've tried so many different ones expensive and non expensive . So far to date the only thing that keeps screen adhered to phone is b700 glue followed by a clamp on screen for twenty four hours . As you may agree is a cost of time . Any recommendations are immensely appreciated and if you know where I can purchase Sony adhesive sheets would be totally awesome. Many thanks for an excellent tutorial and if you reply with help you will be a totally awesome You Tuber.
hello Phone Ninja thanks for the tutorial. i tryed to replace lcd after it went black in water but the new lcd still doesn't display anything. everything else works perfectly in the phone btw, do you have any idea what it might come from?
Hey phone ninja, this video was super helpful. I replaced my screen, everything went well, except I for got to reattach the earpiece speaker mesh, the screen sealed up well, so I'd rather not have to pull it up just because of that. My question is, can I replace the mesh from the back? I've seen videos on how to replace the speaker, but I know the mesh is a tad bit bigger than the speaker alone. Thanks for the video! Despite my small mistake, I wouldn't have been able to do it if it weren't for your video.
+Thomas Robinson try to order another screen.. i ordered new one for my z2 but it had same problem like yours.. then i ordered second one from another guy and it worked well...
Hi there! Since you are familiar with the components of this phone, could you confirm that the bottom and top speaker aren't the same? The top one is more puts out more bass and I thought that the bottom one has some manufacturing issues. After changing 2 times my device the difference is the same so it should be a design thing. Thank you !
The backside of my Z3 compact is broken and I fixed it. It looks quite good so far, but is it still waterproof with the new seal or should I avoid the water?
I just replaced broken screen along your movie, I wouldn't do it without it. Thank you. Anyway I experienced 2 problems. First - I broke my first LCD I tried to fit in, because I applied too much pressure with my fingers near speaker and LCD cracked. By the next one I came up with solution: I placed screen into frame gently and turned over flat on my bench - screen down, and applied pressure to the frame, pressing down to the bench - I think it is much safer for people without experience. Second problem is, that I am not entirely sure if the screen is sitting as deep into frame as the original one - it is less deep than the back side, and I cant remember how it was before, anyway well done with this tutorial. Thank you so much. PS: I also do not think it is waterproof anymore... I do not want to check even if I have also replaced the ear speaker sealing...
Thanks for the video! but i've a problem, my glass is broken in half and the upstairs part doesn't work while the other part is working! I have to do the same job of the video?
Thanks you for the video! Surprisingly after the phone was put back together rear camera does not work - its just black picture. I m having a hard time understanding what`s gone wrong - any hints you can give me?
I just finished replacing my screen and it went great! Thanks a lot! your video was really helpful. I had just one problem! When i was trying to remove the batery from the back glass because it was sticked, the glass broke! jajaja I'll have to buy a new one =(
I'd like to replace the screen of my Z3, but there seem to be so many variations on ebay. There is the Assembly, LCT Touch Screen, Digitizer. What normally needs to be replaced when the screen smashes? I am so confused by it all, and your advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
I like others have replaced the screen thanks to your amazing videos but have an all black screen upon powering up with just the backlight on... what's the most common reason for this?
+Aaron Allen Try leaving out the large metal bracket completely (shown at 3:37). That fixed it for me. Seems like it shorts out the replacement displays (at least the cheap eBay ones) somehow. I tried assembling the phone five times with everything inside (didn't work), then without all brackets (started working), then by adding one plastic/metal bracket at a time and the metal one was the culprit.
My issue was my screen broke but could still see the screen, it just looked bad, I took it in the shop for replacement screen and the screen comes on just no backlight so really dim, the shop said it was the circuit board broke not the new screen but the backlight was on before the shop had it, can anyone help please
Great video of the Sony Xpera Z3 assembly. I have a problem that you might be able to help me with. I dropped the Z3 and it made a small crack on the bottom right hand corner of the display. The touch stopped working immediately, few hours later the lcd gave out and all that comes on is the back light. To my luck both the power and volume buttons are now not working. I'm tempted to buy the digitizer/lcd assembly and perform this repair, but i'm worried about the power button not working any thoughts?
Sounds like your main issue is just loss of the display, it's hard to tell if a phone is functioning well if you can't see the screen. Chances are that the buttons are fine and you just need a new LCD.
Hi, i would like to know, my sony Xperia Z3 glass is cracked but the LCD, volume up and down is ok. I assume the touch sensitivity or digitizer part is broken. Any chance i can replace the digitizer part only without changing the LCD?
Hi, i have an important question concerning my z3 dual, i want to buy a screen replacement but i don't know if any screen will work, or there is a different type of screen for the dual model?
I paid £100 to a local phone shop 2 months ago when i first broke the screen and within a week it happened again and i spent another £100 and then this morning without it dropping there is a crack again! so found this video and im thinking will try and repair it myself. is there anywhere in particular you recommend to buy a new screen and the tools needed to repair the screen
I have a sony xperia z3 and my glass Lcd and touch digitizer has been replaced from a local shop but the screen is starting to rise up the phone I'm wondering if I can heat the screen up push the it Down will it still be water proof then thanks
Alessandro Catalini - nope... you break all the water-sealings when you change the screen... - speaker and microphone sealing are broken - back and front frame sealing are broken that's why Sony's repairshop cost half a phone to repair...
What if we can't find the adhesive strip that goes around the middle frame? And what did you use to attach the back glass cover? I couldn't find one and I had to attach the front and back without it. And as you mentioned in the video, the screen and the back keeps sticking out from the corners. I've used the adhesive glue for now. Can you help me with some other technique rather than using the adhesive strips (not available in my country) which would work just the same? Thank you.
Rizwan you can pick up the adhesives here mobilehq.com.au/products.aspx?categoryID=919&category=SONY&name=XPERIA-Z3-D6653 .. Most good spare part suppliers should sell the adhesives seperately though or with the screen
I did dissembled and replaced everything on my z3 as you did. But the top part of the screen doesnt work. I checked the connectors but nothing helped me. Did I do anything wrong?
Hey man, wonderful guide it helped me install my new screen. One problem I'm facing is that the backlight turns on and I know the phone's working because I get vibrating notifications, but the lcd is not powering on. Any suggestions?
Phone Ninja Perth I have the same problem as Max, I receive the notification sounds when i power up the phone, but when i tried calling it from another phone, it goes straight to voice mail. I tried texting it, and the Google android manager couldn't locate it either. Any idea why?
Hi, my sony z3 back panel is glued with silicone will that be a problem to reopen? And I've dropped my phone and my back panel shattered and since then when I open my camera the pictures I take are with red and green in the darker areas of the photo and in the whiter there is no focus its all blurry so is the camera busted or its the back panel camera glass scratched? Please reply me ASAP thank you very much!
I replaced my screen, and when I put it all back together, the reception had become dreadful. Everything was put back together exactly the same as in the video, including the rf cable. Any ideas why I have such bad reception on the phone now?
Dennie Maas If fixed by sony then you can be sure that it's going to be waterproof again but if you do it yourself or by someone else it might not be waterproof. I'm not sure about this method but "IT MIGHT"work which is buying the correct original waterproof seals (4 in total which are back glass, front glass, upper speaker and lower speaker) online and have it repaired by someone who understands the nature of sony making and repairing then "IT MIGHT" be waterproof again I'm gonna try this method HOPEFULLY next month If you want the links to the waterproof seals I can give it you if you want
what do you after replacing the screen of the Z3 the top corner one side is popping in and out, i would like to glue that little corner to stay in place can i do that?
@Phone Ninja - I have done this fix and as someone else mentioned in a comment to one of these videos I got a problem with my top 10 mm of screen not responsive after phone is put back together. Rest of the phone works fine. But I cannot use notification bar. Have done a touchscreen test (settings --> about phone) and the last 10 mm of the top does not work on that test. Any ideas?
I just fixed the screen of a Z3 which had been off and in parts for a while as the parts were ordered. It was at least 4 weeks ago that this phone was disassembled. I made triple sure everything was put back correctly and all connections were right. It will not turn on. First the light is red and then it turns green. I can tell the back light is on. Is it due to the battery being drained flat or could it be that the electronics were damaged when it fell?
Is there an adhesive for the RF Connector? Mine wont stick back down. If possible can I use some of the phones adhesive to put over it and keep it down?
Hi , I have a question , the screen of my Z3 is completly black i cant see anything but the phone is still working , sound , vibrator , calls , etc , do i have to change the full screen ? or maybe its just a disconnected calbe ? thanks
its likely a broken LCD Lucas so yes would require a new screen. If you look carefully at the screen with good lighting you might see some cracks/discolouration under the touch. You could of course try replugging in the cable.
Hi! Nice video, very instructive. I have a problem with my xperia z3, I hope you can help me. I put in the water my cellphone to take some pictures, and suddenly the screen stops working. I put the cellphone out of the water but the screen doesnt work again. What can be wrong? I dont think that the water is into phone, because it is new. Can you help me?
Andre Troncoso I had the same problem today, but do you have also the sound when you plug in the charger into your phone and when you call it, you hear directly a voice ?
I have a question, my screen glass is broken but I still can watch the screen working, the touch is not, so I have to replace all the full screen or just the glass?
Hi Phone Ninja, my Z3's microphone (main) does not work AT ALL. Its been like this since Sony sent me the phone as a replacement for a phone that was replaced under warranty. My only solution has been to permanently use a headset with the phone with a remote mic. Question is: where is the microphone located on this phone? I thought the opening on the bottom of the front face was it but apparently thats the loud speaker? And theres no hole/bung on the bottom edge so I have no idea where the sound is supposed to enter. Please help...
My screen got cracked after a drop and the touchscreen stopped working but the display is still working. Do i need to replace the lcd display and would it still be waterproof afterwards?
I never had any of those metal hooks on my Sony Xperia Z3. Also, I was able to get my back cover off straight away because the adhesive wasn’t there. I suspect someone tried to repair my phone before, that could be the only reason why they ain’t there.
ATTENTION! If anyone else has a problem with their new Z3 display showing a blank dark screen after installation (backlight working though), try leaving out the large metal bracket completely (shown at 3:37). Hopefully this helps someone else! If it still doesn't work, then it's worth checking the jumper just above the LCD connector on the motherboard with a multimeter. It might also be the reason it doesn't work and you might be able to resolder it. A broken/bent cable might also cause it, unfortunately that's not something you can fix.
+Kuvaajanne Hi, what is exactly your problem. Change my screen and flashes when increase brightness or when heated. The solution that you raise might work for me?
