Thanks for sharing this. Your pen show videos are always packed with so much interesting information and innovative products that I have to watch them multiple times to take it all in. Congrats on scoring the two Pilot pens!
Definitely need to come out here when all the restrictions are lifted (which I think they will by spring) You'll enjoy both Japan and the pen show! Thanks so much!
I haven't been to Japan in several years, and now I have a reason to go next fall. October is usually a good time to visit -- temperatures are comfortable, and the typhoons are usually over by then. I might have to also visit my in-laws during any such visit, unless I can persuade my husband to allow me a stealth visit without in-laws. I'm glad to see the inclusion of vintage pens (and I'm envious of your Pilot Custom Urushi) too.
You make the best videos. Not being able to get to pen shows, I wish you could've shown more. Thank you for sharing with us, sharing links and for your outstanding videos. God bless.
I’ll share this video with my grandson, Clyde, just for the Pierre Cardin inkwell part. He likes your voice and gets very excited when you “decant” ink. We don’t sweat the spills when we make swatches and art together. He’s almost 7 and I’ve promised to let him decant a whole bottle of ink all by himself. Thanks for these fun videos!
Wow this is really a fantastic show, loved that ink bottle from Pierre Cardin, that is really different. I suspect that my wallet would not survive a visit to the show, but I certainly appreciate you sharing it with us.
Thanks for the list. I liked that double sided glass ink well. And the attendee pen with the clear feed. Actually everything looked interesting. Thanks for the show and tell !.
The amount of work you made in each video is amazing. I would never have the energy required to do it. I am saving money in order to visit TIPS next year and your videos are the best guide anyone could get. Thanks so much.
Thanks a Lot gor sharing these Great event!!! It's lovely to see these wonders!!! Would be heaven to me and there are not these variety un My country. i am from Argentina. Thanks a Lot Alesa. Your channel it's amazing
Hi Alesa, thank you very much for bringing us with you to TIPS! I am glad to see you are back on form but do also please keep us posted on your fasting experience; there are more important things than pens after all! Take care
You are so right! I have to keep that in mind! I'm still doing 16/8 and killing myself in the gym hahaha! But it's progress (though I DO need to work on getting better sleep--should go to bed now!)💝 Thanks David!
Yes! Subtitles are up. In about another day, I'll post all the associated websites I can find. Still trying to get comments done now and with 2 recent videos, I'm behind hahaha!
I enjoyed this video so much! It was so fun to know more about the inks and trends that will, hopefully, come to the USA next year! I loved the beautiful ink well made of glass you got! "Pipettes are for sissies," well, right there, the reason why I love your videos! Thank you for taking us with you to the great TIPS!
It was such a lovely video! I had whole comment typed out and YT ate it up before posting agghhh but gosh, I'm absolutely swooning over all the wonderful things. It would be awesome to go one day, but that's a dream of a cut off head, so instead I can be endlessly grateful for the glimpse you're giving us. Like crab rave!!
I'm so glad you find my vid useful! It's fun sharing with an appreciative audience. My comments get eaten up as well--especially when a lot of comments come in. Thanks so much!
2 VIDS! 2VIDS! WOOOOOO!!!!! :-) Darn that pen show and all that swag! Part of me would love to come to Tokoyo to see the pen show, the other part would like to stay a while and visit all the shops and makers all over the city..... on a one on one slower pace. Hmmm I do have some buddies who live in Tokoyo...... Thanks yet again for such great content.
You NEED to go visit your buddies hahaha! Yes, Tokyo is such a fun stationery/pen place that you could keep yourself busy for awhile (and very broke!) Thank you Steve!
D.R.O.O.L.I.N.G. LOL-can’t imagine so many beautiful pen things in one place!! The courtesy and consideration there is so refreshing… looks like you enjoyed it thoroughly…What a beautiful dragon pen-🐲-thanks as always for sharing!
Your pen show videos are always so well done. The number of beautiful and interesting things at TIPS is astounding. While I'd love to go someday, I might get sensory overload! After seeing all the beautiful Japanese exclusives that I can't access from my location in the United States, I was amused to see the crowd around the Ferris Wheel Press inks -- a good reminder that what I take for granted is exotic and exciting to some.
You are so right! FWP inks are lovely and I enjoy them but I forget that they just got introduced here. So it really is funny to see the Japanese ladies get so excited by them! Thank you so much!💕
I clearly need to add this pen show to my bucket list! I could probably spend several weeks in Tokyo just visiting cool stationery stores. There's so much to see and do there in addition to the stores. One of my pen friends has had to cancel his Japan trip twice due to the pandemic but he's hoping to make it over there in the spring, I think.
You definitely need to make it out here one day Jackie! Tokyo/Japan has so many cool and interesting things. I think your friend should be able to make it out here in the Spring. I think the government is waiting to get thru the winter flu months and them will open up the borders. I can't go home to visit because coming back into Japan is a hassle. Take care 💕
TIPS looks so exciting! A friend was posting some photos online but there's so much more than what she's shown! It's really cool to see! Also that hotel discount is amazing! I hope that it's easier to travel next year 😭
Me too! I think they are counting on a lot more people next year, especially overseas attendees. I can't wait as it's a chance for us out here to meet a lot of fun people!
Holy Disappearing Comments, Batgirl! What I said: THANKS! Another fantastic video! Clever, compelling, thoughtful, and well-organized. Yay. Loved seeing the pen show logistics. Clip of the Year = crazy chemist inkwell (beakers vs pipettes).
hahaha! My comments often go to the retirement farm. Glad you enjoyed the vid. More crazy stuff coming up before the end of the year (as I gleefully rub my hands...) Thanks!
I love that dragon pen! I would go to japan in a heartbeat, but i don’t think it is a real possibility.☹️ So I’m living it through you! Thank you for your videos 👍
It is attached to the one in France, but all the ink stuff seems to come out of Hong Kong (like maybe they licensed the name or something.) I had done some research on them when I did the Manila Pen Show video but it was a little confusing.
Nnohhhhhhhhh I’m so jealous!!!!!! You got to be with MR PILOT!!!!!!!! I WISH YHOU VOULD HAVE ASKED ABOUT THE PILOT MYU its soooo sought after!!!! Forgive the caps I’m just kicking my self about this!!!!!
Why are you kicking yourself? Were you there and missed him? He had a few Myus there for sale too. He really does have a wide variety of older Pilots (and newer ones too!)
TIPS was great this year!! So glad I could make it from Nagoya with covid cases being so low. My only regret is that I was too starstruck to say hello to (and also didn't want to bother) you! 😅
Yikes! Why didn't you say hello!? I would have loved to have met you! That's the best part of these shows--meeting other pen people! See you at the next one--Alesa
I just started watching this when I looked down and you had 21 likes at the time you said “21 reasons….” Haha, brilliant timing for me 🙂👍🏻 This is another one for my wish list. Tokyo was already there but I’d forgotten this show. I’m going to need a lot of Yen one day for sure 😂 This was a fantastic look around ‘TIPS’. Thanks so much for the superb filming. I know you can’t cover it all, however you sure covered some incredible gear. Ebonite is just amazing, even though I do love metal pens as well, just not into the ‘steampunk’ styles. I’m off to check out Schon DSGN again, haha.
Thanks Richard! You really do need to make it out here one day if you can--Japan is really a great place to visit and of course, this show is awesome! I need to let Ian know that his pen passed the Inky Rocks test hahaha!
Thank you for your informative video as usual. Every time I watch your video, Tokyo seems to be an amazingly nice place to live.... Eh, to be fair, thus, I think I must be obligated to add my thoughts as a Japanese person who was born in Tokyo... :D. There are some disappointing things in Tokyo. ( 1) Bacons, ( 2) Pan cakes, ( 3) Peanut butter.... eh IMHO.
@@InkyRocks True. One more thing. I am not sure if they are still selling that these days, but when I was young, eh, when I was a junior high school student? I was totally disappointed by the... so called Hot Fudge Sundae of McDonald's Japan. Nothing is hot in that thing. Zippo. Small amount of "soft cream" with some chocolate sauce, period. And the sauce was just simply sweet like those Japanese peanut butter.....
@@InkyRocks Ah! I completely forgot to mention those "parfait" .... 50% of which is corn flakes ... You can avoid the corn pizza though. So, that has never been an issue to me.
Your video is very informative. I really want to go to Japan just for the stationeries. Is there a way to get access to all these products internationally? Thanks :)
Thanks so much! Yes, I'll link all the vendors in about a day or two. I'm trying to catch up on comments first. I'll probably attach it to the pinned comment on top since I've already translated the description box.
Ugh, you eventually learn to dial back a bit. There are so many choices for ink that you get overwhelmed a bit hahaha! I kind of follow what is popular with the "inku-numa" ladies and get recommendations from a few ink friends here.
Was there a time limit on how long each attendee could walk through the venue? There seems like so much to see! Visiting the Tokyo Pen Show is so high on my bucket list.
Yes, it was about three hours except for the first day and it was 5 hours. I think next year, without the Covid stuff, it will be for the full time of the show (like 8 hours or so.) Hope you can make it out here!
You have it right. You could stop the video at reason No 1: Tokyo. I think robo security guard was onto you because you were filming it. Great vid as always, thank you and take care.
Lovely video. Can you give me the names of the two prestigious stores you mentioned? Didn't get the first name but the second was Ginza 6 Stya? I'll be in Tokyo next year and would love to drop in.
Thank you! One was Shosaikan which is a stand alone fountain pen store. It is beautiful and has all kinds of pens, inks and high end accessories. The other is Ginza 6 Tsutaya. Ginza 6 is a shopping center in Ginza and Tsutaya is a bookstore chain. This particular branch has an excellent fountain pen section. There is a Tsutaya in Daikanyama that also has an excellent fountain pen section. That Tsutaya is call "T-site".
A lot of people are planning on coming out this fall for it. You really should not be intimidated by coming out to Japan--a lot of people speak English and it is very travel friendly (when not in Covid). There will always be a person on staff that speaks English and this year we will have one of the show producers here (he wasn't the last two years because of Covid) and he is American. Let me know if you do come out as we try to do a get together with all the English speakers!
@@InkyRocks That sounds really reassuring! Whens a good date to give a confirmation by? If it's in October, would August be preferrable? I have a couple of weddings to go to and I want to make sure I have the PTO lol
@@josephtedesco8429 Probably the best bet is to follow their twitter or IG account--it will announce how they will sell the tickets and when. The show is in October (it has already been decided) Provided there aren't any Covid problems, you should be able to get a ticket no matter what (they had to limit them the last 2 years for distancing).
I know! I found it so funny that most of my audience really want all the other things and not the FWP inks because they can get them pretty easily hahaha!
have you ever seen any bent nibs in japan? i've been told they're used in china to give a more brush-like look/feel to writing from a fountain pen, although i don't know if that's even true. so far i've seen no evidence of them being used in japan so i'm curious if you've seen them or if you've ever asked any japanese people what they think of them.
there are a lot ways to achieve brush like strokes, either through stack nib+ grinds like how Sailor does with naginata grinds or literal bent nibs AKA fude nibs. Especially the former can be really expensive which make them less accessible to most people. Plus most of them have a tendency to be pretty wide in terms of line width so less suitable for everyday writing. Both are indeed used by enthusiasts especially for calligraphy but I don't think you will see them in the wild a lot, much like you don't see vintage flex nibs in the wild that much (tho definitely in pen meets). Don't know about how Japanese think of them but I know Sailor's naginata has a huge cult following in China (strokes are fundamentally similar for both languages).
Yes, fude nibs are a thing here. I bought a Platinum 3776 from Bungukan Kobayashi at last year's TIPS and Nagahara-san bent the nib for me. It is in last year's Tokyo Pen show vid.
@@mikeshi2948 Thanks for a great reply! I have seen some fudes in the wild but like you said, it's not a common nib (probably EF or F here in Japan is the most common.) I got a Nagahara fude at last year's TIPS--still loving it!
I think a website. I have their business card. I'll be posting the vender links in the pinned comment above in about a day or two. I'm trying to get caught up on comments now!
