On April 24th, 2015 students at the University of Florida organized quite possibly the World's Largest Hammock Hangout.
This wasn't for any music festival, or for any company event. It was simply for the pleasure of enjoying the great outdoors, taking in the Gainesville sun on a beautiful Florida day. Orange and blue colors filled Westside Park as students donned UF Hammock Party shirts and as hammocks of various brands, mainly Grand Trunk and ENO, were set up between hundreds of trees. In addition to hanging out in the park, ice pops and Hyppo popsicles were present at the event along with multiple slacklines.
With the success of this event, the (future) UF Hammock Club hopes to continue the event on a yearly basis, encouraging students, parents, children, and local communities to get outside and enjoy a day at the park while lounging between trees.
Event shirts were $6 a shirt and all proceeds went to help fund the Hammock Club and its future purchases.
