nope gypsum plasterboard is used everywhere, it is just screwed at 150mm spacings, i have fell through a ceiling on a job once it was not fun.

+rey david the dry wall is for better fire protection. His attic wasn't planned to be used so he didnt put flooring in. My attic has a ply wood floor because we use it but I still have a dry wall ceiling which prevents a fire spreading

I don't know about you, but in every house I've lived in, the crawl space has always had a wooden floor, so I agree with Dennis: It is most certainly not normal to assume that the floor is drywall. Yes it's cheap chipboard, but it'll hold your weight.

That's just the drywall, the walls are made of 16" or 22" on-center 2x4's and these days with fire-retardant pressure treated wood that'll last as long as brick and is a heck of a lot easier and faster to transport the materials, put together, and work on if something goes wrong. And that's not even every house in North America, usually just suburban projects where they wanted thousands of houses built in 5 years, there's lots of places with brick houses. Although I can't imagine building a house the size of Linus's out of concrete, pretty sure wood is cheaper On top of it all most people finish the inside of their house with drywall to begin with so you'd still be able to fall through the ceiling

Also earthquakes I'd like a lot more to have a drywall and wood-beam wall falling in on me than a concrete slab of death

Using a projector in that small of a space doesn't seem very practical. It's also a pretty huge step down in image quality. More importantly, even though I think it's a little funny to think of the TV falling. If they use proper mounting there's basically no way that it's going to fall. Even in the worst case scenario, if it does fall, the distance is very short and it couldn't cause serious injury.

This projector is able to produce a pretty large image at a short distance away. I think it would be practical and much safer. Sure, its a step down in image quality. But I think the benefits outweigh that fact.

Except that there's basically no risk. Linus will make sure that the screen is installed properly. I'm certain that on one will be injured by it. Even Dennis managed not to get hurt, surprisingly

Most houses use wood framing and drywall. Especially for ceilings. That is in an area that isn't nromally supposed to be accessible, so the beams hold up the drywall. Drywall is not a load bearing material, nor is it made to be. It's basically used for walls and ceilings.

I live in a house that is 130 years old, and apart from the squeaky stairs, there is no way of knowing how old it is. Built from nothing but wood and drywall, this house has withstood a tornado, multiple earthquakes, and a fire. So I would say that it's pretty durable. Heck, it wasn't even made from all that good of lumber.
