I found this strange cookbook at my local Half Priced Books and I had to make a video on it. Is this the world's saddest cookbook or a passion project from a sweet lady?

In the 70s 80s is was a novelty and trendy to use the microwave. It was kind of fun to master the microwave. We were bored maybe. Ive gone back to using my stove alot lol

Yes. Microwaves were much different back then. OP doesn't understand the era. Microwaves were a luxury, and maybe even a status symbol. They were also unwieldly, and no one knew how to use them. This cookbook makes sense for the time it was written.

Years ago when I first moved out of home, my mother gifted me a cookbook. It was for students who needed to cook small, affordable and tasty meals for one person. When she handed it to me she said "this is for cooking when you are alone!" 😅

I would say the Anyday dish and its collection of microwave recipes is a modern revival of microwave cooking.

When you think about it, the microwave was new for most people when she wrote this book. So, I guess it makes sense. Anyway, how many people today actually know how to cook in the microwave using the proper cookware? My guess is very few. Maybe a look through the book isn't a bad idea! 😊

I don’t think it’s sad, in the loner sense of the context. Like “as seen on tv” products, this can be an asset for disabled people who are unable to use certain appliances. That’s why you see regular actors making a fool of themselves in demonstrations of these kinds of products: they aren’t made for the typical person but they have to market it toward that demographic so people buy it

The Microwave...umm...”wave” as cooking ware was really in the 70s and 80s,I believe, and some how the trend kinda stopped around the 90s. None actually sure why, perhaps microwave meals were promoted more. I see the microwave as more of as a means to reheat food than to cook. Cooking eggs in the microwave is such a burden, too.

Exactly. The microwave is for reheating, not cooking.

Except no it's wasnt a "juxtaposition" bcuz she didnt write it in the 21st century,.. it was 1986 & adjusted for inflation, microwave ovens ranged in price from around $450 to $1500.. so no they weren't "dingy" or whatever u said.. ur family had to be well off to own one, just like u had to be well off to be buyin lobster tails

My mother is a shut-in and can't use the oven because it doesn't work. She doesn't have the money to fix it. She does have a microwave, and this is the perfect thing to make sure she gets her protein (eggs, etc). I'm sorry the rest of you think that everyone else lives like you.

It is only the latest edition of the book that was published in 1999, the original edition was published in 1986, the year before she passed away.

You know what, I don't have a stove, and can't get one, so my microwave has been a lifesaver. So to us, and how your laughing and making snarky remarks pisses me off.

Why are you talking like you're really smart and you know it all? I travel for a living all I do is stay in hotels and all we have is a microwave. You know how it feels like not to have a kitchen so people like me need that kind of stuff. You can't talk smart if you don't do what I do for a living and I can't be eating out every single day because I'll go broke.
