46:59 Those boys were raised well. They were trying to tell you to add a pinch of sugar to your dipping sauce. This is what makes Chinese cuisine exceptional overall in the world. A true balance of flavors. Much like adding a pinch of salt to cookie dough before forming the cookies. Rounds out, finishes off, and completes the umami.
Let's share this video then eh lads!!! Criminal that these videos aren't blowing up compared to some of the absolute tripe China videos on YT recently.
As a person born in Chongqing, this is my first time hearing someone waiting 3 hrs for a hotpot table. Does not sound like Chongqing at all, as hotpot resterauts, large and small, are everywhere.
@@JackAynsleyTravelThese hot pot restaurants are just for tourists! Try some local restaurants away from tourist attractions with a reasonable price and authentic flavor !
@@JackAynsleyTravelwhile you navigate the subway system of Chongqing, I suggest you find a station called Hong Yan Cun红岩村, the deepest station in China. Find a hotpot restaurant in those side streets.
@@JackAynsleyTravel you don't have to find a popular hotpot restaurant in particularly in Chongqing, Hotpot is the name card of Chongqing, just go to the regular hotpot restaurant anywhere and the flavor would be good enough. Also noodles are tasty in Chongqing.
@@JackAynsleyTravel Best Chongqing hotpot hides in communities, it usually doesn’t have beautiful decorations, but many local people like it.(tips: if you want a local good hotpot, you can walk into apartment buildings, then you’ll find a hotpot with many local middle-aged people, that’s the best hotpot in Chongqing)
I'm so enjoy watching you two in China❤.Maybe I could suggest you that find someplace to eat by asking some local people like in the video comment instead of searching on Internet.😊Hope you can enjoy yourself in China.
I really like the videos you shared. I miss hot pot, skewers and barbecue very much when I study in the UK. Chongqing hot pot usually uses two classic dipping sauces, one is sesame oil, garlic and salt, and the other is only dried chili peppers, which are usually used to dip duck blood, which is very delicious. There are also beef tripe, tripe and duck intestines, which are common must-order hot pot dishes. I hope you can try them if you have the chance!
A little tip for the viewers that want to visit China, please avoid Chinese national holidays, especially May 1- 10, October 1-10, and Chinese new year. And give those unpopular destinations a go, like Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, guizhou … have fun.
成都人来说一句,重庆火锅重麻重辣,是很正宗的,但是不能吃辣的就点微微辣加鸳鸯锅就好了,太辣了什么味道都吃不出来,除了辣还是辣😂 too much chili would cover all the taste and flavor of food, and may cause stomachache. I always choose the two-flavor hot pot, with slightly spicy, and boil vegetables in the not spicy part, boil meat in the spicy part, also add some oyster sauce and vinegar in the mixed sauce to reduce the spicy feeling, I really wished someone can help you to really enjoy the hot pot😅 Thanks for your video❤
As someone from chengdu who saw you two putting vinegar and soy sauce for that amount into the dipping sauce bowl, I was in total shock just like those 3 kiddos standing besides at the counter who want to have you guys notified 😂 normally when you have hotpot in Chongqing or around sichuan province in general, some sesame seeds, small chunk of minced garlic, a little bit oyster sauce, a bit green onions and cilantro along with few tablespoons of aromatic oil(Xiang oil) just good to go. Any salt or sweet and vinegar will smash the flavor of hotpot base. Besides, the longer the pot is cooked, more salty the cooked food gets, so soy sauce and salt in large amount is excessively destructive.
yunnan is also the most attractive place to visit!there are plenty of beautiful natural landscapes and unique cultural which is don’t exist in other places in china!
So you have tried the legendary Chongqing hotpot. my wife told me about it when i met her fifteen years ago she was right it's hot and spicy . she also mentioned Chongqing women are hot too. I just love the culture and the food. sitting around the cauldron as it's being loaded up with all the different ingredients watching it simmer away. then dipping in with your chop sticks and enjoying the hotpot. what a lovely way to enjoy the day or evening.
You can actually take some of those dry chili peppers floating on the surface out after a few minutes cooking, they are the ones that give out the dry-firing heat in your mouth. The more the cook the more intense the heat gets.
Hi Jack, you were accidentally choosing the most spicy way to eat hot pot😂! Eating rice and drinking ice Weiyi soymilk, Wanglaoji, or beers would make you feel better😂
@@JackAynsleyTravel Yeah, but that spicy level will burn another place of your body next day, I guess you know what I mean hahahaha😂. Having clean rice or fried rice helps a lot!😂
I personally very rarely use it cause it sounds too warm and friendly and I'm a bit too shy to use it. It's especially popular among the middle-aged and the elderly 🤭
It’s a common Chinese dessert soup that traditional families make every few months.. Modern couples may not know how to make it - they prefer ice cream & cheesecake 😝I have been to Chinese restaurants in the west where they serve this as a complimentary dessert soup.
I think it will be very salty for you to eat hot pot like this. In fact, after the hot pot boils, it is better to add hot pot soup. You can actually put less soy sauce and vinegar.❤
I was an expat. I was told not to go to China. Stayed for 5 yrs and so bummed had to come back home. Don't go to China because you realize the world is bigger than you think. that's what I learned.
Your waiting time is too long XD, in fact, you can find another hot pot restaurant without queuing, it won't taste bad, as long as there are people but not in a long queue, if not, you can ask the people who open the shop nearby.
Friend, I must tell you the secret to eating hot pot: there are two cans of sesame oil next to your mushroom beer. Adding the food in the hot pot can increase the aroma and reduce the spiciness. The secret to waiting: First, get the number, follow the estimated time, go to other places to play, and come back to eat when the time is up.
@@JackAynsleyTravel The eating method of hot pot is very open, but Chongqing people usually like to use garlic paste and sesame oil as dipping ingredients, which will make it very fragrant and the sesame oil will suck away the chili peppers. However, it seems that you have forgotten to use sesame oil, which is the bottle originally placed on the table. Most hot pot restaurants assume that customers will use them, but they don't consider you as tourists. Maybe you can give a demonstration to other foreign tourists next time you go to eat, haha
In winter, the climate of Chongqing is cloudy, cold and humid. In traditional Chinese medicine, chili has the function of dispelling cold and dehumidified. You can understand that the weather is Yin qi. Pepper is Yang, and the balance between Yin and Yang applies to everything in the world,This is also the principle of Chinese Tai Chi culture

The bridge is subject to traffic control during holidays and is closed to cars and only allows tourists to pass. Because when they designed the bridge, they did not expect that the city would be so popular that the narrow sidewalks could not carry tourists at all.
It seems that there is also peach gum, a gelatinous substance secreted by peach trees. It is also a tonic that relieves heat, relieves fatigue, and cools down.
May 1st is Labor Day and there is a 7-day holiday, so there are more tourists than usual. If you encounter something you haven't eaten before, just ask the people next to you and they will help you.
@@JackAynsleyTravel It is "清明节" (Qingming Festival), which is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day after the spring equinox, usually occurring around April 4-6 in the Gregorian calendar. It is also known as "Tomb Sweeping Day" or "Clear Bright Festival".
A food country that compares to the food country of Italy, so I don’t think the “best”! The Chinese restaurants outside of China don’t compare to Italian restaurants outside of Italy……fact!
The soup looks like white woodear soup considered very nutricious and with some medicine functions that are supposed to be very favorable for our body.
20:19 That's a run-of-the-mill snow fungus soup. It's a common Chinese dessert. They've also put goji berry and jujube in them, which are two common ingredients in Chinese herbal tea, so I am guessing that's probably why Jack felt it was some sort of tea.
@@JackAynsleyTravel Yeah, it's nice to have a bowl of chilled snow fungus soup in a hot summer day. Not a fan of the warm ones though. I don't know why, but tepid snow fungus soup always reminds me of soggy chips.
The substances in afternoon tea are: Tremella fungus and peach gum, which are commonly used by women in China to take care of their skin. They are very nutritious.

This hotel is called an intelligent hotel, which refers to voice intelligence. All operations in the room can be completed through voice commands without the need for manual operation. Which instrument at the head of your bed is the AI? Shouting it a low degree will wake it up, and then you can voice command it to turn on music, turn on the TV, turn on lights, turn off lights, open curtains, turn on the air conditioning to adjust the degree, and so on. It will be able to complete all of these tasks.
In fact, "chi le ma" is not as commonly used and is often only used before and after meals, and is only used to greet acquaintances in this way. "Ni hao ma" is not particularly commonly used, usually just say "ni hao".
The Bamboo Sea is a scenic postcard of China. It is very shocking. The air is very comfortable, and you can also taste bamboo delicacies and ancient buildings.
BAMBOO SEE IS NOTHING COMPARED TO THOUSANDS OF OTHER PICTURESQUE SENIC SPOTS IN CHINA. IF YOU COME FROM THOUSANDS MILES AWAY, BETER NO TO WASTE TIME AND MONEY IN THIS KIND OF COMMONE PLACES.
@@JackAynsleyTravel I have been to the Bamboo Sea, and the landforms and scenery are indeed very unique. It is the Chinese version of the Grand Canyon, but it is full of bamboo forests and rivers, caves and aerial cable cars,Hollywood movie shooting base... I suggest you go on-site to travel and explore instead of reading the critical comments of Taiwanese people online. The Bamboo Sea scenery is unique to China and is a unique scenery of China, while the bamboo forest is not.
I really like how you guys are really not hesitant to try new things !And you always do your homework on finding the most famous restaurants to eat despite the language barriers! I think you are the first RU-vidr I have seen who are able to use Didi in China! How is your 36hr standing up train ride coming along? I hope you guys have a good rest when you arrive in Xinjiang! Xoxo
Stop saying "Ni chile ma?" to greet people. This is kind of old-fashioned and not commonly heard in many parts of China. "Ni hao" would be good enough.
Both fish & chips together?
I don't advise people who rarely eat spicy food to eat spicy food all of a sudden. You may get very sick because your body is not accustomed. Touchwood. Should eat them moderately then increase the intake gradually.
You added too much soy sauce to your seasoning. Actually, you don’t need to add it. Use the sesame oil on the table instead of soy sauce, which will be more delicious.😂
I came across your channel a few weeks ago and really enjoy your videos. The views from the room were to die for 🤩. Gotta say you did well waiting all that time just to get fed but it did look well good 😋🤤
Maybe one day but I’m more for going to Singapore as was born there due to my father being based there while serving in the Royal Navy. I do love watching people that travel and you and Paige are so good to watch. Interaction with the locals is the way it should be pal 👌
