The batter had a half swing "check swing". The catcher asked the third base umpire for the call, the third base umpire called it a strike because the batter swung. A swing is when the bat crosses the plate whether the pitch is a ball or in the strike zone. If the bat didn't cross the plate then most likely it wouldn't have been a strike. It's a judgement call on the third base umpires part. Looks like he got it right.
@@yonatanhoresh2695 It means home plate. This is where batter starts off to hit the ball with the bat and the batter must return there after passing third base without getting "out" in order to score a run.
