In May 2001, I visited the World Trade Center observation deck. During that time, I also captured a video showcasing a day in the life of New York City. However, just a few months later, on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, I found myself in New York City again-this time experiencing the most shocking day of my life. Fortunately, I left NYC at 6:45 delayed from 6:15 AM. When I landed in Dallas (DFW) all hell broke loose when the 2nd tower was attacked.

I grew up with the Twin Towers. I went to the South Towers Observation Deck back in 1994, the year after the 93 bombing. Twin Towers was my favorite spot here in NYC. I miss them..

Good footage. I went to the observation level and on the roof in summer 1987. I was working in upstate New York and went with friends on my day off. Alas I didn't take my camera that day and a friend got shots of me on the roof, but we lost touch (he's from the US, I'm from the UK). I did get photos of the WTC towers from street level, on another day that summer, and from the top of 'the Big E' (ESB) It was a beautiful summer's day and very peaceful up there. I remember seeing aircraft in the distance at lower altitudes than us, as they prepared to land. I was fascinated by these buildings, and the ESB, since childhood. The twin towers from seeing the movies 'The Towering Inferno' 1974, loosely based on them, and the first King Kong remake in 1976 where Kong stands on top of them, not on the ESB as in the original version. Back then, and up to 2001, NYC was dominated by the twin towers in lower Manhattan, and by the ESB in central Manhattan. I went back to NYC in 2022 (and again this year), first time since 1992. Apart from the new Freedom tower, there are so many ugly towers all over, a number of them taller than the ESB. In my view, nothing in the city should be allowed to be built taller than these two famous buildings. But London is an even worse visual disaster for random, ugly towers. Both city skylines ruined imo. Anyway thanks again for this footage. Memories of happier, innocent times.

After covid-19, okay. But after 9/11, defenitely not. And this is coming from a non-American who was born months before the terrorist act happened.

I was once parked in front ,I was invited to go up to see from high the city of New York, but was afraid of heights, But still I admired the beauty of those two buildings ,Today I'm still a little mad about the evil humans , but just like the titanic, the two events will go on in the memory of millions .😢

No offense, but this video sends chills up my spine realizing that four months later both buildings would be gone 😲😲😢

Agreed! I went back the weekend of 9/11 and was there that day. Fortunately, I flew out of LaGuardia at 6:30 am on Tue, 9/11. 1 hour into the flight, the flight attendants disappeared. There was no drink service and no announcement. We were all perplexed. We did not know what the issue was until we landed at DFW airport. While in the airport, the 2nd building was hit. They locked down the DFW airport - no one could come or go until later that evening. It was a nightmare.

@@StevenRobertsShow I bet when you saw the towers falling, you did everything in your power to keep from screaming or fainting dead away. I know I would have.

Man I remember when they were built. And they were done in the 70s. I miss them so much. And I still have my pictures and them.

I experienced being there on a few occasions but never took photos. 1995/2001 wasn't a social media world yet.
