Errr... So many annoying inaccuracies lol. Typical jacket would have been an M41. Corporals typically would NOT have been issued a Tankers jacket. Corporals would be considered NCOs and would have a horizontal white bar below the Ranger diamond. Also -- were all these guys attacked by a cat or somethin'??
The gaiters were also issued in a shorter length, although less commonly, so it wasn't always necessary to cut them down. In terms of the colours of the gaiters, the colours did vary from the outset, some were the prewar khaki, some OD3, which is a little darker. This true of quite a lot of British production which were also provided to US troops. When I collected I had a full set of web gear and gaiters of UK production.
4:30 The Ranger guy has put on the gas mask pouch wrongly. The top belt should be worn around the waist rather than around the groin, while the bottom strap is correctly worn around the left thigh, but still rather sloppy with excess length hanging around, likely to catch a loose branch when he is in action.
You guys should do one of the Infantry! I've got a huge collection of original items for each stage of the war. The only repro items I use are the boots!
For people who re-enact members of the Ranger Force (1st, 3rd, and 4th Ranger Battalions), an interesting point was that the Rangers cut down the leggings. Rangers found that the full length leggings caused cramps during the famous Ranger Speed Marches. Also the original Rangers had a Ranger Scroll rather than the diamond patch. The 6th Ranger Battalion, Pacific Theater, also used a Ranger Scroll. Immediately after getting off the beaches at Normandy, the 5th Ranger BN reverted to the Ranger Scroll. The 2nd Ranger BN used the diamond patch for a lot longer, but eventually went to the Ranger Scroll after they went into Germany.
I was in 1/75 and was always told our scrolls were red, white and black because they took the colors from the Nazi Flag (Known as the national socialist flag) from Germany as an insult to them.
@@sydliz1126 The black part of the scroll was due to a shortage of blue dye in England. The original scroll design was supposed to be Red, White, and Blue.
