And these are just 2 examples from a time where the US didn't even exist or where just founded. The truce by the way went on for several days (depends on the region, as the truce spread on a small area), during this at least two games took place as far as I know (the first won by a Saxon team by 3:2, another by a British team 4:1 - not at the same spot though).

Agreed. The truce and what inspired it is one those rare, beautiful moments in human history that should be talked about for centuries. Claiming they came together because of the "power of sports" and "faith in their fellow man" is like saying the main reason people go to Disneyworld because they have great cotton candy.

tammycon1 depends, there where several spots where matches took place. The very first as far as I know was between a Saxon (German) team and a British team ... Germany won 3:2. Another match mentioned in a letter of a British soldier was won by the British 4:1 'easily'.
