I'm not racist. I admit I'm not the greatest speaker in the world and I'm very scatter brained. My attack was not on Mexicans, I was actually trying to defend them. My attack was on the polo shirts. Those guys take advantage of hard working men and force crews to work for peanuts while they make all the money and they've never roofed a day in their life! They're the ones I have problem with! I have no issues with anybody that earns their living like this. Please no racist comments here. This ones for the boys that think they can teach people how to roof from a drone shot while other people perform the work. The dude's in office on the computer breaking down what their workers are doing. or there guys who built a platform in a closed environment! You're the problem! Where's your credibility video! Thanks for watching. Subscribe if you enjoy learning more about protecting your home! Sorry if the comments came off wrong!

Thank you for your service first and foremost... I personally like watching your videos. I learned how to roof by accident earlier this year by telling a buddy i would help him on one and from there I just took off. There's a lot I still have to learn, however watching your videos has increased my speed to where I can throw 18-20 square a day by myself depending on pitch and weather conditions. Thats not too bad for a guy who learned five months ago from scratch. Keep making videos and giving folks a chance to learn and I will keep watching.

Just a year ago I left that job due to a love but soon will be moving back to start my own roofing company. Watching videos like these helps me see how much different others like to roof and I take a little from each video to try and make a quick but quality job out of each one I plan on doing. Great video and keep up the great work!!!

I like that trick where he runs three consecutive full shingles in a row to the left (and you think to yourself wtf is he doing?) ... and then he trims the upper most by 1/3 and then cuts the quarter notch from the one below it ... those cuts seems counter-intutive at first but they obviously work. That's a pretty slick trick. (And the bonus ... because they are partially nailed, no need to have one hand holding the shingle and one hand on the knife) That plus how he lays out all of his full bundles in exactly the right place making it easy to reach and transfer to the successive laddering course above is the epitome of efficient. Really impressed with how smart and quick you ran this.

Yeah, I was cocky and fast as hell when I was your age too. Ripping off three layers in 98 degrees 99% humidity in Central Alabama. Now as and old man I wished I took things a little slower and not beat the living shit out of my body. I started in construction at 13, by 16 my brother and I would do entire homes in a day, tear off and lay. Typical 1700 SF home. We killed ourselves. Now at 60 We are stoved up and can barely move some days. Take time to be good to your body now before it's too late. All that money we made and for what? We are so beat the hell up we can barely enjoy life. It's not always about speed. Speed is only important if you want to make good money fast. That thought process after 20-30 years gets old fast. But good job young man! Keep busting your ass doing roofing. Call me in 30 years.

Ok, I think you guys are missing the fucking point. It seems I have to explain....The lesson kids is not wether I'll be around in 30 years, but to try and take care not to kill yourself while your young, I'm paying a huge price for "timing" my work when I was young and strong, in construction and in the military. See class, when you beat the living shit out of your body for 40+ years, you will pay the price and all for chasing that almighty dollar bill. I hope today's lesson is a little more clearer. And for you smartass pricks pointing out the obvious of 30 years equalling 90 that's great you can add! Call me in 30 years, is considered a descriptive future occurrence. In others words a matter of speech, it's not literal. Understand now boys and girls? Stop killing yourself, take time to work smart not hard. You'll wish you had, got it? But, what do I know, nothing. Do as you please. I know I wish I had listened to the old timers back in the day! I was cocky and thought I knew everything. I still don't know shit. I do know one thing, my broken up, arthritis and cancer ridden body hurts like a bitch every damn day now. I'll give you one guess why! But go ahead act like the badasses that you think you are and have fun with that. And you can still call me in 30 years!

i,m always amazed with bizarre u.s.a roofs ! it looks like the country is still controlled by big oil ! in australia we lay a roof once for a lifetime of service .our terracotta or cement tiles go way past a hundred yrs & our original corrugated steel sheeted roofs from the 1800,s are still serviceable to today , direct coastal exposure is our only exception to longevity being about 60 to 70 yrs , i guess you guys just accept what your being served up , but their are long lasting alternatives for you all !

@@RaceboyYT Wood roofing lasts 35-40 yrs when installed correctly. It needs to be installed on slats so that the cedar can breathe underneath. There is a product called cedar breather that is used when you install on solid decking, If you don't install in either of these 2 methods then yes it will rot quickly. Someone who knows how to roof would never install wood shingles directly onto the decking. And yes, slate is very expensive. But stone or slate is absolutely the best roofing material. Good job man, I did roofing for almost 30 years and I think in all that time I only had a handful of roofs that came off that easy, of course I seemed to get all the ones that were 3 or 4 layers. People don't realize that it's a lot harder than you make it look. I made one hell of a lot of money during my career but I'm paying for it now, all crippled up with arthritis, enjoy it while you can. Again, good job. It does my heart good to know that there are still guys out there that know how to work.

I really like your method of cut your starter strip while you go In stead of cutting ahead of time. You don't have to mess with them laying around. It seem be in your way alot. It is nicer to have someone to lay the next shingle in place while nailing them down. But you have someone that works the pace of you. Because it's really irritating when you have to wait on someone that is slow. I did roofing in the 70's and the nail gun looks the same. I really enjoyed roofing. Nice job!

I roofed one of my houses years ago. I started the tear-off using just a pry bar then someone told me about the roofing shovel so I bought one. It made the job a lot easier. BUT, I never asked anyone how to use it. I ripped the whole thing off BACKWARDS. I started at the bottom and ripped to the ridge. That house had a hip roof and was difficult to get the ridges straight. It's been over 25 years and that roof has never leaked. I wish RU-vid was around back then. I need to do another one, but my back hurt watching you. So I will hire someone for this one.

I am no roofer, but finding myself about to tackle job after watching. I appreciate the content and time to film. This episode showed me how you cut the steps for the 3rd/4th course before full shingle on your left side. Also on rt side, 19.5-24" piece and making sure to not place nail on seam. Hook blade or reg utility blade when cutting? I am also awaiting the roofing challenge for I read a lot of talk, but see no proof from those claiming to be faster.
@NWIVeteranConstruction
@NWIVeteranConstruction 4 года назад
always use a hook blade when cutting shingles! also works better than a straight blade on ice shield, and if you're using synthetic felt (which I strongly recommend) a straight blade will cut better (fresh hook blade will work just fine though) I use a dual blade for both purposes plus I like slicing open my bundles with the straight blade

Liked the video....I was a roofer for 20+ yrs & in the construction business for 40+....when I was shingling 70’s-90’s I did mostly 3 tab & the architectural shingles came in the last few yrs I did roofing I also started with hammer & nail & air staplers & guns hadn’t come into being @ that time but I was taught to put the nail either in the tar strip or above so any ice/water can’t get under the tab/shingle & cause a leak with it in the tar strip it’s covered & sealed so there is a 99.9% of it leaking....bending over like that kills the back....but you are fast I will say that of course you’re a young buck....keep doing this bent over & you will have problems believe me I’m 72 will be 73 come July & I’ve had 2 back surgeries for the L4 & L5 vertebra....still can tell when it’s gonna rain or snow....but as I said I’m impressed you do good work could of used you when I was roofing....MCA😎
