Morio Higaonna born December 25, 1938 is a prominent Okinawan karate practitioner who is the founder and Chief Instructor of the International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF). He is a holder of the highest rank in Goju-ryu karate, 10th dan.
Higaonna has written several books on Goju-ryu karate, including Traditional Karate-do: Okinawa Goju Ryu (1985) and The history of Karate: Okinawan Goju Ryu (2001). Martial arts scholar Donn Draeger (1922--1982) reportedly once described him as "the most dangerous man in Japan in a real fight.

Shotokan: Hard martial art, long stances and lunges, some competitive component, hard , fast and dynamic kata Goju Ryu: Hard and soft style, roots in Fujian White Crane kung fu, shorter stances for close combat and grappling, fluid/softer kata. If you try two different types of karate there will be stylistic differences (kata and stance) and dojo differences (how the sensei teaches you) and so on.

That's very beautiful and exactly what should never be forgotten in the true form secred art. Many years of commitment. May I add, self defense and justice, ability to help others and the wisdom to know difference is key to good base connection. Taking a life by hand is easy to preform for many, but sparing one is something the spirit should guide you through, otherwise still lost. PPP

Kyokushin is a type of full contact karate. It has seven belt levels with two levels per belt.(a stripe per belt). This one focuses more on breaking techniques and sparring. Some dojos also incorporate grappling however, it is not usually used. This style is known for its breaking techniques. There are videos of its rigorous training such as when they strengthen their abdominal muscles by breaking wooden poles and planks by having someone swing them onto their chest.

You're very wrong! When I was growing up in the 80s, karate and Jujitsu with Judo were almost always taught together or encouraged to learn the other to be well-rounded so mixing it up or having a knowledge of the vertical and horizontal planes was no new concept. There's nothing new under the sun as the saying goes!

some translations ( i dont know Japanese but i have seen this video before with subs and remember what he said, so this wont be a correct translation only simply explaining what he said) You can train everywhere not only in the Dojo, while walking you can practice "Tanden" ( breathing practice) Even while staying at a hotel, you can train your speed by hitting the curtains, the curtains is soft and little resistance which make it easier to train. ( i think he refers to kizame tzuki = quick punches) Even while sitting down you can practice Karate, ( notice how he trains at 6:29) While training it is very important to eat and sleep properly. Not to much meat but more vegetables and fish. Milk and pig's feet are very good for training since they provide with calcium which is very good for the bones.

From my knowledge, Kyokushin is a full contact form of karate, mainly based and centres on jiyu kumite (Sparring). Shotokan is a very strong karate style, basing mostly on strong stances and powerful, quick moving katas such as Bassai-Dai. Goju-ryu is a more fluent style, working a lot on technique, self defence and more fluent, graceful katas, such as Saifa or Seiunchin. All brilliant though, had the chance to train in shotokan and goju and the effects were amazing.

If any of you here are truly a fighter, you'd know not to ever underestimate an individual. Very very unwise to do that. No matter how weak a person may seem(by your own standards). Also know that it isn't always the faster or stronger opponent to win. At the end of the day, if your defensive and offensive technique sucks. Even one with years more experience can fall prey to a beginner.

To everybody who is saying Karate and various tradtional martial arts or mma is better, y'all have to stop and think when Bruce Lee first came up JKD he did so because he found all various martial arts like Kung Fu, karte, judo, boxing, Jitsu and various martial arts were all useful. So to all the mma guys and traditional martial artist, learn to respect each others arts because we're all aiming to get better, weather were fighting in a cage, on the streets or in commption. I respect both aspect of the traditional martial artist and the mma fighters, and should y'all because y'all can learn a thing from eachother. This is coming from a guy who practice Brazilan Jiu jitsu and heck, I've even thought of learning various forms of martial arts like Karate, Wing Chun, stick fighting, boxing, judo and Muay Thai because learning all aspects of martial arts will come in handy in case, also I think it would be cool to see the culture of modern day MMA fighters and traditional martial arts come together. But also another thing is, not all us Americans are bloody thirsty mma fighters or boxers, there are some acutely some decent guys in both sports like Muhammad Ali and yeah there some arganet motherfuckers in both sports to who, I wish would just get the snot out of. The point is, no matter what if you practice jiu jitsu like me or mma or traditional martial arts, you have to pay respect to both form, heck if I was profasnial mma fighter, I would practice some traditional arts like Wing Chun and absorb what is useful.
@Paladin1776a
@Paladin1776a 5 лет назад
From what I've observed in the comments, it's not that BJJ or MMA guys don't have respect for other Martial Arts, they just want to see what is real and eliminate the fluff...much like Bruce Lee's approach. There is very much respect for Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, etc. where the practitioners have actual fights and prove their systems work. There are too many videos showcasing a style of Martial Arts that just shows canned moves against a compliant opponent and what is worse, the comments that the guy(s) in the video are deadly, or the best fighter, etc. These videos don't prove anything. These are fighting styles, so if they don't work in a real fight, or no real fight is shown, people will call Bullshit. That may not sound too nice, but the intention is to stop the fakery and delusions and focus on what is real. I'd personally love to see someone take Karate and use the actual techniques they practice in a Kata in a fight successfully. If they cannot do that, then the BS moniker is something the traditional MA guys have to live with.
@waschbrettbauch21

@asamiyashin444

Wow, that sounds like an abuser. Nobody has to live with insults. Nobody has the right to call bullshit something they don't understand. MMA is a sport with a set of rules. It is not the absolute measure of what is bullshit and what is not. I'm bored of that arrogant attitude. And the fun thing is that the arrogant guy making that comment wouldn't have the balls to tell "your art is bullshit" to the guys of the video. He would get beaten up badly in a street fight with any of them. Then he would go crying to watch their juiced and drugged "heroes" of the UFC from his sofa.

google your question, people answer: "Not a single one of them are fighting styles. They are martial arts, or specifically Karate Ryu. Fighting is only a small portion of the training involved in these systems. There is also no such thing as regular Karate. There are Ryu, or systems of Karate. Each system has their own methods of training, study and application. It used to be easy to tell what Ryu a person was by the Kata they studied...but today many Ryu study each other's Kata."
