I live in Australia and have owned a GPX 5000 ever since it came out and i do fine with it ,i would not buy a 7000 for the main reason it needs deep ground to out perform the 5000 and most of our gold fields are fairly shallow ,sure in the occassional instance of deep 3 feet wash it has the edge or deep reefs that were missed it outperforms but like the states patches and reefs are getting harder to find. I have worked with guys that own the 7000 and at the end of the day they are stuffed ,way unbalanced and cumbersome, and the tally of nuggets was not overly impressive either i would say around 10 - 15 % better on virgin ground ,and old ground that i had worked the 7000 picked up a couple of small nugs but did not really out shine over my 5000 .If i was to buy a 7000 it would only be if i got out of the average prospectors comfort zone and headed 2-3 days drive out where their are no dirt roads just bush and found a large virgin patch with the 5000 first ,GPS the position and go back and hit it with a 7000 but i would not sell my 5000 .Besides the 5000 can be pushed for depth with the rx gain ,also it has many compatible coils for small to large gold, and you can use a d/d coil to disgriminate the iron junk out.In Aus dollars the 7000 is around the 10k mark and the 5000 around 6k. Any way thats my take on this comparison that is my view ,but without doubt minelab are the best around for a gold machine, the 7000 you can turn on and go but to get the best out of the 5000 takes some time and practice but it is a multi functional machine . take care, Dave from AUS .
I owned and used a 5000 for years and sold it after running the 7000 for a couple years. Its a matter of budget and opinion if it is worth it to switch from a 5000 to a 7000. The 5000 is a very powerful detector and I found a lot of gold with mine. Glad you enjoyed the video.
You are 100% right, I have been working in gold detecting since 2011 and this detector was the only one let as go back to the areas that we totally consumed by GPX 4500.
G'day Chris, you will probably have to make a new update video because of the newer GPX6000. The 6000 is finding gold that the 7000 has missed by seasoned prospectors. And it's as easy as the GoldMonster 1000 to use, and just as light! Some 7000 owners are now using the 6000.
The 6000 is amazing on tiny gold, but on bigger gold buried deeper, the 7000 is still tops - it is still Minelab's flagship detector. Good on tiny and deep penetrating are two totally different things.
I am retired and want to find gold and treasure and discovering lost history. I am just starting so I want to learn all I can. If its there , I want to find it, using technology,. Your experience is invaluable for me!
I have a gpz7000. It is good but you still have to work hard for your finds. I think some people think the better the detector the more it will find. 95% of detecting is finding where the gold was, then hoping there is bit left that the old timers missed. They didn’t miss much.😬
They missed literal tons. They didn't have drones and satelite imagery to understand ancient hydrology let alone detectors and pinpointers! People find lots on tailing piles so, yeah they missed a ton! There is A LOT of nuanced detector usage too. Digging those whispy faint ghosts. Thinking the detector will just yell "Gold!" at you will lose you lots of gold!
Chris...I just received your book in the mail today. It’s a beautiful looking book. I love watching all of your videos. You’re my new hero! 💕 from Bullhead City, Arizona. Big hugs, Margaret (Annie) Burnham
Finally I found a video that focused on one and not just a five top best. sometimes it's confusing when you know nothing about metal detectors. Thanks for the video you did a great job👍
Hi Chris I from India and I was searching for a channel on metal detectors walah and RU-vid just gifted me your channel...I am buying a Chinese ripoff for 20 dillars just to learn detecting.. once I learn how to use a metal detector I'll be upgrading to a better detector... I will follow your channel regularly...
Thank you Chris for all of the info. I have been researching metal detectors for the past few months and yesterday I bought a Zed. Your book (fistful of dollars) was filled with pertinent information that helped me decide on the right detector for me. Low and behold, I found this video right after my purchase and I can say it helped ease my mind on the financial burden placed on my pocket book. Now, if I can just get my wife to watch it..I have been metal detecting since 1986. The machines today have come along way. My At pro struggles to find anything small (gram or less) and this is mainly what I’ll be searching for in southeast Alaska. Keep up the great work, you are a fantastic teacher and I enjoy all your videos!
Good idea. Cheap small coil option. I gotta say these are amazing. I bought one in fair condition for £300 amazing deal. Yet to use it because i need to decide on a coil, it did not come with a working coil.
I still have my White treasure pro 10 double inch head $450 dollars Most of the time is not the metal detector but sound of the Target Happened to found many good things with this machine Happy hunting Everybody's 🇺🇲🤠
I just bought the Highbanker and Gold Monster 1000. It's about time I go out Prospecting. I've wanted to for quite a few years now. Maybe from watching all the TV series on finding gold. Especially Gold Rush and the bearing sea. Delivery date is Tuesday.
I bought a GPZ-7000 in early 2020... I started hunting and finding target just using the GPZ-7000 at first... Then I Short Sticked my GOLD MONSTER 1000 to a 24inch shaft No armrest and 5inch coil and it works great along side the GPZ-7000 after you find a target...
@@ChrisRalph Cool... I'm from Alberta Canada I head out to Bristish Columbia every Summer and been down to Nevada twice... I Found a 12-1/2 Cent Johnnie Coin at the Johnnie Mine, I thought that was cooler than the 3.5 and 2.6 Gold Nugget finds at the Johnnie mine area... Hoping to get back down to Nevada in the Future...
..have had great success finding Native Silver at our 1880's minesite using a GDD Instrumentation Beep-Mat 8. It is a sulphide detector made in Queebec, Canada....detects conductive or magnetic outcrops or boulders under up to 10 feet of overburden, pulled by man, atv or snowmobile up to 25 kph, stores gps data, transfer to draw maps...
The AT Pro is really more a detector designed for coins and relics than gold. The gold version is the AT Gold. That said if the gold in the ore is large enough and the specimen close enough to the surface your detector could see it. But the gold has to be good sized - like half a pea or half a bean.
If you are talking about the Goldfield video, yes, I re-used some footage. If you are talking about the GPZ 7000 video that you commented on, then no, its the same video from several years ago.
Very entertaining. I doubt I'll ever be able to afford this machine, but I have an old Minelab Eureka Gold that goes surprisingly deep. We are moving back to Reno for good soon, can't wait to get into the Sierras to find old mining camps and streams that have new gold every year. I saved this video and the one you mentioned that compares detectors. It seems as if the 800 is a good machine for relics and coins, may try to get one of those for my wife. There is very little gold here in Missouri, our temporary location. It is easy to hunt for coins and relics, though, since there is hardly any mineralization. Would like to find a Union and Confederate bullet before leaving. There was a lot of Civil War activity near us. Thanks for listening!
I found a BB size gold picker upper at (8) inches using my Garrett AT Max in Arizona ...... crystal clear using Zero mode on Iron disc and Iron Audio... and I didn't pay $5,000 or $7,000 dollars .....
you are dead wrong, in 1991 I met a scientist that developed a ground laser that can detect anything up to 10 miles. Gems, diamonds, gold, ivory, paper money in 20s or 1s etc I bought it from him because he said he would never make more then a few. When I went back to show him things I found he had passed away. I mean I found the most amazing thing that you could not imagine by simply finding the molecular structure and tuning it to that. Still have it and it still amazing.
Although your comment is extremely valuable information and I do very much appreciate you making the comment, seriously with no disrespect but within the context of the video it is about the MOST POWERFUL READILY AVAILABLE DETECTOR to we the general prospecting community. To comment to Chris Ralph as you did was inappropriate simply said. Maybe I am being overly sensitive although I think it deserves to be said. Credit to Chris for responding to your comment with class and mature professionalism. Although I just purchased a TC-200 detector for $30 on TEMU ($246 on the big name e-commerce site we all know who that is) with a pinpoint detector ($20) to go with it I have not even bought my first gold panning.. pan yet. Kudos to you Chris Ralph for inspiring us to go for it and make this dream most of us have had for years a practical fun reality. I imagine fine gold will be the greatest source of gold I will find in the creeks readily available to me in my area the Central Coast of California and from your help Chris now I know how to prospect for and obtain it inexpesivly. Stoked! Thanks Bro! Thanks Chris!
I'm in Florida. I've used the 7000 But I truly prefer my ATX deepseeker It does so much better in salt water conditions. Also in Arizona I have a great boot tack collection 😀 lol
I'm gonna give the regular old atx a try. Found one used for 1/5 price of gpz 7k... Hell that thing costs more than double my last 2 car purchases! Will primarily be working old tailings piles.
What would be your daily go to detector if you were to be in a tropical area with fresh water and salt water looking for silver and gold coins? Thank you
G-Day Chris I just found your vids and have really enjoyed them you have a wealth of knowledge that you share from your own experience that would inspire old and new prospectors. to get out there for the hunt. I am a solo pro in the Pilbara Westen Australia and love nothing better than to chase gold. thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. the only problem I found is in this video and you are probable know is your coil is back to front unless that's how you like it. Cheers mate and all the best on your next prospecting trip
So I put the detector together in my backyard just for the video and wasn't paying enough attention. I don't run it that way in the field. If I'd put it down to run it like that I'd have seen the problem immediately. When I was in WA, I was up around Meekattharra, a ways to the south of your Pilbara county. I was hoping to get up that way but it didn't happen.
I did notice the dirt mark line across the top, so I believe you have had it the right way and hopefully some great nuggets found. I have had my 7000 now for many years it was one of the first I got mine a few months before they were released in prospecting stores. if you ever get back to WA let me know it would be a pleasure to take you out on the leases I prospect. just remember to make it during the cooler time as it gets to 47c this time of year. all the best to you cheers Chris @@ChrisRalph
Sir Nice to met you. your RU-vid channel is World' best Wonderful Video and your 45 years Experience Explaining to world. I am Starting gold hunting sir Please Blessing me. Guidance me sir. Thank you very much Sir.
Hi Chris, what do you think of 3D metal detectors? Also trying to find info on electrical resistivity machines. Need something that can see a vein anomaly at depth. Thanks!
Your video and audio quality have improved quite a bit in the last year I've been watching, as well as the editing. I'm proud of you. I'm still waiting for an artificial intelligence machine learning enhancement for a metal detector that can connect to a cell phone and record the exact signal shape, wave form, and allow the user to register what was found. That way the machine can actually start learning to intelligently discriminate and learn from not only its own mistakes, but user mistakes. Also learn to automatically ground balance in difficult environments. A drone also that can log targets over and area and report to a human digger with both gps and "darts" on areas of interest. Is it hobbyfun? No. But the coding & development challenge interests me.
I have been working on the technical side of things. This was the first go with a newer cannon DSLR. The problem with the scenario you suggest is that both gold and trash can come in an infinite range of size, shape, conductivity and other properties. Its an effort to distinguish the magnetic properties of one thing with an infinite range from another with also an infinite range of possibilities. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Here in the Philippine there's alot of gold treasure here but i cant find it where the exact location..hope you have a big heart to lend your gold detector
Thank you for the info Experience is one of the greatest assets in any endeavor Just learning on gold prospecting And your input is very much appreciated Thank you
Had my eye on the GPZ7000 since they came out but with the cost I think I'd have to plan a trip to the western gold fields of Australia and stay for about 4 months to try to pay for it!! :) (Which is exactly what i want to do after I retire..)
Live in virginia so gold is unfortunately in short supply here(i presume anyway) just curious if your expertise with detectors would include general hunting for old coins and relics and what would be the deepest detector available for this purpose. Bought your book b.t.w and it is an incredible resource and very well written. Very happy to subscribe to this channel. Great vid!
@TimRussell Hello sir, any new information on what is best detector for coins and relics? I have been searching also. I have many boulders/ rocks where I'll be searching and looking for the right setup.
Thank You Chris for Sharing ! I've been watching more & more of your videos and find them Awesome , books are great but I find your explanations of finding gold Just go's way pass most books , but maybe some of the writer's want you to buy their books , but don't want you to find the big Gold , because they want to be the one's finding it after all they wrote the book's I can say that I will be buying your book Respectfully Elbert Dulworth
Hi Chris! Enjoyed the video- nicely done! Those coils are ginormous! Where would one go to detect for gold? I've never tried but I wouldn't even know where to start and it sounds interesting! Subbed, GL&HH! 🙂
Your book and your videos are awesome. Today (without a detector) I applied your principles while I was hiking, looking at the rocks how they must have fallen down this mountain blown by wind and rain and followed the trail up and with only my eyes I saw a piece of quartz with gold in it - my son was blown away as I’m teaching him what I’m learning...can’t wait till my detector finally arrives! Thanks so much Chris.
I want to get into metal detecting and prospecting. I also want to find relics. More, I want to now find a 3" cast iron sewer drain pipe in my yard and it might be 2 or 3 or 4 feet deep, or a little more. What metal detector can BOTH do a good job for gold prospecting as well as serving such a mundane purpose as finding the 3" cast iron sewer drain pipe in my yard (2 or 3 or 4 feet deep, or more). Anyone have any recommendations. If you have several suggestions, what are the price differences?
Its a tough one to do both - like asking for a car that will do 200 miles per hour at a race track but also get 50 miles per gallon driving on the highway. The GPZ with the optional 20 inch coil could do it, but is really expensive.
Underwater metal detector (used to find canons under the ocean sand) mounted on a baby buggy, using a D11 will get you deep targets. Source, Round Mountain Gold Corp.
@@ChrisRalph no lol. The geologist at the time made the detector to locate the gold pockets. These were 5 plus feet down and a D11 was used to carefully move the overburden.
Hi Chris. Daniel from San Diego. I have the GM1000 and very happy with it despite the fact that I can only find bullets... lol.. I put aside some money for the 7000 and would like to know if minelab produces improvements for this machine. If buying new, I would hate to get a older shelved unit. Any thoughts.
ML did a software update a few years back but have not done one since. I would not bank on much in the way of continuing improvements for the near term.
@@ChrisRalph what mine lab model would you recommend in Virginia where I will be using it . The zone im in is the pyrite belt, but i'm on tons of quartz so was looking for something to pick up those gold veins im hard rock no more than 18" deep. I was looking at the Minelab 1000 gold
Youll know if someone knows what he talks about and ofcourse Chris knows everything about it. After watching your videos I have purchased your book and cant wait to learn more from you. Thank you for your videos. Looking forward for more.
Even with full discrimination you will hear lead. Discrimination in gold detectors is only iron or not iron. Check out my video on discrimination recommended in the video. Glad you enjoyed this video.
Depends on the size of the gold. Really big pieces would be a couple feet, tiny ones would be a couple inches. In between sizes would be in between the two. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
They see great depth, but are not sensitive to smaller metal objects, especially nuggets. If you are looking for a big metal treasure box with a cache of hundreds of silver dollars inside, then they are great. If you are looking for nuggets or even single coins in the ground, they are terrible.
For gold nuggets, the monster is better. For general coin and relic hunting with some nugget detecting, the ctx3030 is better. I did a video on selecting the right detector for your use. Take a look a that video and it will answer a lot of your questions. See: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SqwkpH9LZIM.html
Son of a bi!@$%, I love your book, read it often, just reached up to my gold shelf, and what do you know, someone borrowed it again. That book is the most un-authorized removal one I have.
Chris, I am looking for the deepest detector to hunt the beaches along the Florida east coast where the 1715 Fleet went down. Occasionally gold coins are discovered on the beach but most are hidden deep in the dry and wet sand. No water hunting bc it is prohibited. I have a White's TBI beach hunter (PI) which is a deep detector but would like your opinion of which detector you would suggest. Thanks, David
Hi Chris, I just purchased your book (I’m in Australia) and own a zed. Any benefits to orientating the coil backwards like you have or does it not make a difference? I have the logo to the front on my detector.
Sir good day help me sir how to home made what you says this detector.I Luther ken in the Philippines that already 10yrs in tresure but I cannot hits any items because luck of gadgets please help me sir your knowledge about that
Gold nuggets can be found in many places. In the west coast states? - Yes. In the South West? - Yes. In the New England states? some of them. Eastern seaboard? - not so much. In the MidWest states? - mostly very fine gold, but sometimes small nuggets. There is loads of information on Google - do some research.
Hi Chris, I have searched for your book on Amazon and am not finding recent listings. Other options? (Sorry is this has been asked and answered in the past)
Asked an answered many times in the last few weeks. Most people get it on Amazon, but unfortunately, at the moment, it is out of stock at Amazon. It will be back in stock at Amazon soon. I am in the process of re-printing the book at the moment. They have all my files and my book is just waiting its turn in line for the printer's schedule. Amazon has a notification set up so that they will send you an email when it is back in stock. Sorry for this delay, but I am working on getting it back in stock as soon as possible.
Hi Chris, thanks for your educational mining videos. I have a team that is doing artisanal gold mining in Western Africa. It's been 4 years since you posted this video. I have noticed that many other metal detectors are advertising ZVT technology. Do you still think the Mine Labs 7000 is still the gold standard or is the other detectors I should consider. Thank You
There are no other metal detector companies advertising ZVT technology. There are many dealers selling this same GPZ 7000 detector by Minelab. To this date, there is nothing else on the market that can detect smaller gold as deep. I've been twice to Western Africa. I wish you the best of luck.
@@ChrisRalph Thanks for your clarification and quick response. I am excited to take this mining operations to the next level because the benefits to the tribal people are life changing.
Chris Ralph, Professional Prospector , oh thought PI metal detectors a normally good in salt , just I have used Eric fosters metal detector back in the later 90. Early 2000
Thanks for this very informative video Chris ! I've been looking real hard at that detector. Can't convince the "Appropriations Committee" (my wife) to spend the big $$$$ for it. Maybe some day....
What are your thoughts on the Geoground Gold Legend? Or a similar product you may be familiar with. I live in Alaska and looking to get started on my GOLD FEVER! Found some NUGGETS just by happen chance!!! Thanks in advance!😁 ALL terrain for water findings, etc? Price $3,000 +/- Some nice creeks here and rocky beaches, snow. A newbie, so kinda partial to the led screen for ease of notification/identifying? Simultaneous signals would be nice also. Never know? This is native country!
@@ChrisRalph Thanks! Not much info. or reviews on it. What do you prefer for multi findings, manly gold for around $3-5,000 -/+? Great info. in your videos!! On second thought I think the Minelab 800 would be more versatile for this area, Alaska!?😃
@@ChrisRalph How do you like your 7000!? I might just have to save up! I really want some nice Alaskan raw minerals!!! I can't decide what to get? Been watching videos all weekend on detectors. Would like to keep it under $3000.
Hi Chris, I very much enjoyed your video and you are an excellent speaker who explains and illustrates your facts brilliantly! I am now subscribed to your channel and will buy the book. I have 2 questions for you. Even though I know that you specialize in searching for gold, do you think this detector could detect 25 lbs of gold bars at a maximum depth of 3 feet out in a field away from trash? And do you think this detector could detect a basic metal ammo box at a maximum depth of 3 feet out in a field away from trash? I cannot thank you enough for your time with answering these questions and if you have another detector that you recommend that would be better for searching for the targets mentioned and at that depth, please share with me. Thanks again!
If you listen to music it is irrelevant, but trying to find something in the ground with even a small latency can be frustrating as the sound is not coming from where it would be expected.
@@ChrisRalph I understand where you're coming from and I've experienced the same issue and it has kept me from using Bluetooth for some things in the past. With older Bluetooth and audio compression standards, it wasn't uncommon to have up to 600ms of latency. Typical wired headphones have about 5-10ms of latency. Bluetooth 4 latency is as low as 34ms for higher quality units, cheaper ones can have 100-300ms of latency. However, with Bluetooth 5, the latency rates are down to 20ms with a worst case of 40ms. Bluetooth 6 will be even faster. And thanks to the new LC3 audio codec, devices can transfer higher quality audio at half the bitrate of the older SBC codec. Sending the same information with half the amount of data transmitted halves the latency in the transmission step. Now more fun facts. Human eyes have a 13ms latency but our reaction times are longer than 200ms. Humans generally can't perceive audio latency below about 40ms-80ms, with some individuals being able to identify as low as 20ms. But remember, wired headphones have a latency of 5-10ms and our eyes 13ms. This would make a fun video, Mythbusters style. How far does your coil swing in 80ms? How about 40ms? I'm thinking a blind study between wired and low latency wireless. You have the headphones on but the wireless ones have a wire tied on and taped to the detector. And the wired ones are setup the same way so you can't tell. Then swing a target with both and see where you pinpoint it. Do the same with the speaker. 🙂 Lastly, light travels 874,030 x faster than sound. Some ultra low power ARM SOCs used in everyday electronics are now faster than gaming PCs from the early 2000s, and even faster when you consider there is no operating system bloat, RAM/CPU/APU/GPU are all on a single chip with incredibly fast bus speeds, some with Bluetooth and wifi on the same chip! So it's likely a good set of Bluetooth 5 headphones will give a user feedback with the same discernable latency as wired headphones-none.
