I have an ATV - Mower Repair Shop and I had one of these left by a customer , it sat for a while and then I decided to work on it and make it a play around trail toy . It's really not that bad. Rebuilt the carb - flushed the cooling system out , installed a push button start system & replaced a few wires to solenoid etc. Also I Installed a manual On Switch for cooling fans Never has overheated on even some hard trails we take it on even with just one fan running . The secret I've found with the transmission not grinding is to go to Reverse first then to Forward . Keep the oil changed in transmission and engine, don't abuse it , and it will get you by !! Is it a top notch ATV ?? No , but to play around on as a little mug bug trail scrubber .... it's not too bad !! Thanks -MW 😆
I have had a linhai 260 for 6 years and it has not given me a single issue the engine was made by yamaha and the chassis was made in China and it turns in about a 5 foot radios. All I have had to do to it is clean the carb from water in my fuel. These are actually very good units I would recommend these fully
Ye when you get a new ATV is way different then buying a used shit That's why alot of people complane about the Subaru head gasket My father had 800hp Subaru WRX STI Never had a problem It only happens for ones that got out of hell in other words
I've owned one for 12 years now still runs good I've had to put a couple batteries on it and changed the oil every year and had to buy a coil for it that's all I bought it brand new from tractor supply it's been one of the best 4wheelers I've ever had....if you try to take care of your stuff it lasts alot longer buddy
Guys don't listen to this guy. Nothing wrong with this bike. Maintain properly (which is very cheap) and it will run forever. PS: This is one of the first models, the newer versions are great! If you buy it in that condition what do you expect?
What’s the flat back peace that has 4 wires going to it.. it’s at the front of the ATV and you grabbed it and dropped it.. mine has been cut off… thank you
Hey you don't know where I can get a oil plug for a 260 CC linhai do you? It's not the main plug on the bottom of the engine but the one right next to the dipstick. The one you remove to find out the engine placement, to find top dead center. I'm just having a hard time finding one. Not sure if I'm giving a wrong description of it or not
I have had a linhai 300 4x4 for 14 years. Never had any problems, changed 12v battery and variator belt once. Have of course changed oil and lubricated the contacts with WD-40 on a regular basis 🤔
Hey Ken, U must keep Ur machine clean and dry... The major issues with my Linhai are electrical, the switches are trash and they may have hooked up the battery backwards and toasted the cdi and fan controls.... Thanks for the info, Ur thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!
Nanco and Linhai are two separate companies and Linhai does not allow their atv engines to be used in any other manufacturer's atvs as they are gaining a good reputation globally. It is true that Yamaha owns a small share of them but the Kodiak used a Japanese Yamaha engine. Linhai is big in Canada and Europe but starting to gain a following in the US as CF Moto has.
lin hai....is junk....the elect system sucks so bad... all of this electiral sys, sucks... front to back... i 've has mine for 8 years.... drive it for 2 weeks .. in the shop for 3_ months.... parts availability....nada...none... anywhere... dealers dont even carry parts for this crap.... BEWARE..BE INFORMED....BUY SOMETHING ELSE.
One of the biggest issues I have found is bad fuel and the coils don't last long. But overall you can use Yamaha Parts for it and I upgraded mine from a 260cc to a 300cc quite easily.
I bought a brand new one in 2005. I had it up till 2011 and sold it to my aunt and Uncle. They still use it today. Its ran quite a bit. I never had a issue with it and they dont either. Only problem I had once was the safety start button on the brake handle. I bypassed it. I cut the wire and zip tied the button. Never had the problem again. Problem solved. You paid 300 for it because you bought someone else's problem. They messed it up.
I laughed my ass off all the way through the video. Ive had mine for years and all I've ever done is plugs and fluids and if you leave shit alone never had a problem. Couldn't beat it for free!
Hey Eric!!! I bought it trashed, I managed to get it running, I just got tired of fixing and replacing all the broken stuff on it.... I will go back to it one day and finish it once I forget what a pain in the butt it was... I like free better than what I paid for it.... Thanks for the info, watching, and commenting!!!
@@HarveySpooner I wasn't trying to be rude or anything it's just so many people tear stuff apart for no reason and then blame the machine. Good luck hope you get it going good mine has done great for me.
Hey Eric, I did not consider Ur comment rude, I considered it an honest statement of Ur experience with the machine.... Given Ur note, I will probably put some more time into the machine... As I said before, it was torn up before I got it, my surprise was how much it was torn up and how much it is going to cost to fix it properly... Thanks for Ur thoughts, advice, watching, and commenting!!!
I bought a linhai 550 efi in 2010 and i have driven it for about 20000 km. Besides yearly maintenance with oil, oilfilter, brake fluid, cooler fluid and spark plugs, i also have changed the brake pads, the battery twice, a few light bulbs and two bushings. I think thats it, in 13 years. So i cant say anything negative about it at all. I got a crack on one of the fenders, while i was off roading. But that was because of my driving.
ive had a couple of these they are yamaha engine with a 2000s polaris frame they use the polaris blueprints and Chinese metal they are so close to polaris you can even swap the plastics between them
Hay have a friend that has a 2011 300 se - okay first no start , had a starter relay ,now it starts ,cleaned the carb ,good to go ,but now if i put it in gear it has no power to the ground , but if i leave it in N engine has lots of power .. Cleaned carb three times cheeked all hoses good cheeked carb boot good ..., what should i be looking for ,, oh after all that it still bogs only if you put it in gear..
Its important to also reflect the year & models involved. 1965 Toyota is quite a different thing vs. a 1990 Toyota. Some of these Chinese manufacturers have really been getting their act together, learning from past experience.
How do you recomend to keep the air cooled motors cool ?? I ride for 2 or 3 hours on my 110cc or my 125 auto atvs the like to get really hot fast .... Can i add a small external oil cooler .... ????
I looking into the same thing for my Suzuki LT4WD 250. I'm thinking about getting a small fan and place it so it pushes air onto the head. My friend who works on these all the time said the fan should have it's own battery, so my battery compartment is big enough for a second one, and I'll just put a charging wire on it so I dont have to tear it out to charge.
From what you say, these should be cheap and, with your skills, I should have thought you could design a simple replacement wiring system - worth doing if you could fix up a few of them.
He cant cause he has no skills with this stuff....Just bumbles around with it and is absolutely clueless and then talks shit about it and blames the machine for his incompetence.
That machine is setup to fail with water cooling and that garbage electronic carb. Most of your gokart companies make them not turn sharp on purpose to keep jackwagons from flipping them. If it had a aircolled engine with a decent carb design and then you fixed the turning radius it would take away quite a bit of it's problems. Personally I hate 4x4 wheelers that are big and over bloated. Give me a 2x4 machine in the 250cc size and I'm happyy. No water cooling, no gimmicky, trouble prone carbs. That thing looks like a good place for a 420cc predator like Rasta B TV did to his water cooled gy6 style 4 wheeler.
That manco 260 will shit all over a predator swapped quad lol. You people are fucking clueless lol. The electric choke is simple to bypass and the the de-icer doesn't matter if works or not as it has no effect on performance.
Spoonman I just picked on up like this dirt cheap not in terrible shape but I can't get spark for the life of me. I even tried the portable cdi box please help
Check wires on coil pack should be under the left front fender. you should have around 2.5k ohms resistance on coil input wires. If not your coil i s shot buy a new one. Also their coils are bad for the plug boot contact separating and losing connection. I have a Linhai Anniversary Model 260 E11 and it runs like a top but of course I constantly maintain it by the manual.
I have a diamo scout. Same thing as this. Wire bugs I found in the starter relay and fuse box. Bad connections. Runs good envy of my neighborhood but she is fickle.
Hey Dog! a not running linhai is worth what U R willing to spend for parts... If U want to learn how to fix and macgyver atvs, it is the machine for U... If U want a reliable rider, don't buy it... If it looked nice, I would try to get it at $50, I could dragged up to $100, if I was making a mistake, I would pay $200... $350 is a lot of coin for a not running atv that is hard to get parts for and will break down alot!!! Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!
I got one today on trade for a mini bike and honestly i feel like your nitpicking non existant issues. Like harley owners being like if it isnt a harley its worthless... i mean come on.
Just rip that harness out and throw a plain harness on it and swap the carb out. Fix a lot of china stuff just easy to replace the cheep with good. The rest will go a long time
I had one of those pieces of crap!!! Mine was called a Big Daddy 260. No power at all in high gear. Any kind of hill you would have to put it in low to climb... it sucked!!!! And if that wasn't bad enough.... Shorty after I bought it, the place said O... We can't get parts for it anymore.
when did you buy this bike? it is literally 10 + years old. anyone watching this guy don't listen to his BS he is full of crap. he bought it broke and cant fix it and is sad to say he cant fix it. he has no clue what so ever.
Totally Agree. I own 3 of these on the farm and they are WORKHORSES! Get a manual and its the easiest bike to work on! Do proper maintenance and this thing will drive forever!
Hello there I recently bought a linhai 400cc 2018 and wanna do maintenance but on my area not know or they don’t wanna work on it I do wanna oil change the whole maintenance I been looking for videos but everything I been seeing is different language I will appreciate it for advices thanks
I bought my nephew a TaoTao Cheetah for Christmas a few years ago and it's a POS too I did not see much sense buying a Honda trx90 for $3000 when he will outgrow it in a few years so next it's a 250 cc Honda recon or the sport equivalent .
i have one of the small ones just about like that i didn't even bother to try and fix the motor or wiring i just took all of it out and put a new motor that i knew was good in it and its just fine now but it should be that was a build it was quite a job lol i redesigned the thing completely different just finished it up tonight
Hey Ed!!! I buried it for now, when I get bored and need a project, I will dig it out again!!! Thanks for Ur thoughts, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!
@@twinlakes8436 Your stock carb is 30mm i believe. Heres a link to the 32mm version i use. You may or may not have to swap over your throttle cable bracket. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S39BCKY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Supposedly for a chinese atv these are pretty reliable. Supposedly. If you can really call them chinese. Yamaha & Linhai built the motor. And built it well, not like yamaha's other 250 atvs with the necklace for a timing chain. Polaris body, trans, and 4wd system. Interesting setup. Supposedly the motors are fairly solid tho. And they do make a bigger bore version the 275 which supposedly you can drop the jug and piston onto the 260 version to make it what they call a "300" Still only 275cc tho. But engine parts are plentiful. And being that this is basically a polaris 330/500 magnum body, frame, etc I would assume a lot of the parts from that would swap over, diffs, 4wd pieces, etc. The one thing that concerns me is finding some more special to this setup parts. Like the belt cover. I cant find one anywhere. God forbid your belt explode and take the case with it.
I had one just like it when it was almost new and to say it was a nightmare is an understatement!! Mine also crunched the gears horribly bad. Never could get the idle and shift linkage adjusted to stop grinding.
I got one of these for free about six months ago wasn't running the guy said no spark I guess from bouncing around and being unloaded and all that mess it fired right up so few days later I'll go to mess with it again there's no spark I'm like huh I located a coil sure enough and a loose wire on it best free ATV ever had in my life😂
Bro its not junk! I had 3 and they didnt give me trouble. They are actually the same as the polaris quads not yamaha. All their spares are polaris and its built by polaris! Just has a different name! Go check the prices they are expensive and tell me would a “junk” quad cost that much? My opinion .
I have one I only had one prob an it was someones fault the blinkers malted the wires but fixed it an it goes anywhere I want it to there not bad I go farther than my buddy and he got a Polaris 425
Bro doesn't mean it's made in china means it's junk apple so you know gets some of it's parts from china plus china is one of the best countries they are way ahead of you and my country
Hey Xrayan! They make good stuff in China and they make some very low quality stuff, it seem that for this atv, all the low quality electronics were put into this poor machine!!!! The only way to fix it would be to replace as much as possible with the better stuff!!! Thanks for Ur thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!!
i disagree with you.. big time. I have three quads and two are china made (sold here in Finland by name keeway, comanche, linhai etc etc.) and haven't had any issues what so ever. Keeway 300 4x4 (allmost the same as Linhai 260) mileage is 25045km, Comanche Bull 300 4x4 (also same as Linhai) mileage is 11000km.. Few years ago i had Polaris and Can Am... HAD... Never again those pieces of shit.. I had problems and issues all the time.. The point is: Don't tell people that china made quads are junk and the manufacturers use carbage building them.. That's just not true..
When one is so used of Honda quality, one well never be happy with chinesse junk. I wondered when this video would come out after I saw the video of where you bought this one. But not all is lost, I see it as the perfect unit for a single cylinder diesel engine
This was never a version of any Yamaha Kodiak, this is a polaris magnum 330 chassis and drivetrain. With cheaper than polaris made plastics but almost identical. Cheap Chinese wiring and a Chinese clone of a Yamaha scooter engine.
i consider china quads the Yugo of ATV,s because of there poor build quality . sorry you took one for the team on this one, perhaps you can adapt the gearbox to a golf cart????? maybe there is a market on epay for used parts ????
The chinese do build crappy quads but that baja warrior you have behind it is also chinese and they are pretty good machines {have one myself} it is also alot simpler machine.
I'll stick with my 07 Trail Boss 330 and sons Kymco built Arctic Cat DVX. I looked at an '07 Linhai 300 earlier this year and it "looked" quite nice. He said "runs excellent" when I called and of course I show up and it didn't run. My Trail Boss has been submerged in 2' of water and after I got it towed out, it started right up. A little slow while the belt dried out but pretty bulletproof. Polaris, you ROCK! I'll stick with the brand names...
Harvey great vid keep up the work best thing to do is sell it before you go broke also if not sold scrap the frame and keep parts for another build/bike
I could really use the Back wheels for the trike build if your parting it out, also if there 4x4 hubs. Just saying. Great video Harvey, Cheers The Dizzy One.
That’s a Polaris clone, Yamaha never sold a turd like that at all and it definitely didn’t have the Kodiak name on it.... (Spooner that’s not true!) It’s a throw away bike just like Polaris other junk. I love the vids, just man up, you got duped out of some hondos (hundreds) lol!
Hey Eduard!!! U like the Linahi stuff??? For me, it is heavy junk, there are no parts available, and they seem to suffer from multiple failures are the same time....Thanks for your thoughts, watching, and commenting!!!
The E-Ton brand 2stroke quads are just as bad..electronic choke on the carb, separate oil injection system and oil tank instead of just using premix fuel..pain in the @$$ Now, the Kazuma quad I have is a halfway decent chinese quad, bery easy to work on etc... but still another chinese junk bike just the same..ugh.
