Along side having fun and not getting frustrated, one of the biggest things that comes with not practicing enough is that you aren't able to focus on worship. I catch myself doing this even when I am fully prepared. Sometimes if I riff is too complicated or it takes away too much focus from God, I'll cut it or rework it. Praising God is the most important thing in all of this! Thanks for the video! Lots of great points and were all things I struggled with when I was getting started as a lead guitarist. Being able to play lead guitar is such a gift and honor and I'm so thankful all the other guitars out there. 😎
Wow what a great video, with great advice. Your last sentence about the guitarist presence was probably the most valuable to me. Many time we as guitarists don't value or realize that. Thanks, a lot, you really did an amazing job.
This was a great video with great advice. The points made about the pedalboard were on point! I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. Thanks for doing what you do 😀😀.
Loving the pedal advice. Fortunately for me I'm a research NUT when it comes to pedal selection! There's a lot of good stuff out there, I'd say the two pedals I use the most are a tube screamer/overdrive and a reverb. My next most used is delay. Learning how these pedals react to your play style and guitar will take you SOOOOOO far on it's own. After that, I'd get a compressor to even out your volume (it brings down the volume of your strumming and brings up your single notes) also a good amp simulation pedal if you're plugged into a PA system. Remember, your amp is a part of your guitars sound!
When I started playing, I had no idea on gear or on what to get. My friend recommended the pod go because of its great price and sound quality. Something I recommend to any beginner
all you need for effects is a decent overdrive, delay reverb and chorus pedal, or a decent multi effect unit, with these you can sound good, over the years I've seen too much focus on gear ( myself included), I have a mesa, vox, Jackson and fender amp, with my helix I can get all the sounds I need
Great video and great advice. I really relate to the pedalboard building point. When I was younger, I bought so many different pedals that were complete crap and didn't take me to where I needed and wanted to go with my sound. I have since learned to do so much research on pedals before you buy it. For instance, what are the pros and cons of this pedal and do I really need this to get the sound that I want?
Kinda confused on your pedalboard point. Are you saying that people buy pedals that don’t fit the p&w sound? Therefore they get left in the closet? Or they buy knockoff pedals that don’t sound good?
That last one. Or let’s say looking for drives, in your head your looking for a blues breaker style pedal but don’t know that there are different OD circuits. You might spend a lot of money trying to find that and having drive pedals you do not use stacking up and frustrated because you can’t find the sound you want. I’ll make a short and post it to better explain!
Don't mix your videos down using your studio monitors. You're barely audible bro. I've been watching RU-vid videos all night no problem, so it's not on my side.
@@michaeldrawdy22 I listened to "Starting Worship Electric Guitar" and it's a little bit better, but still low. Listen to the volume level of, say, an official Hillsong video and try to match that.
mistake #6 - thinking there is a god to play your music to. As an ex-worship guitar player for one of the most prominent churches back in the day, I'm gonna let the cat out of the bag, you're playing for and gaining the worship of people. Yes, this is a bit of a troll, but I think the cognitive dissonance of wanting to be a rock star and "playing for Jesus" can mess people up and by proxy, mess with people in the congregation. If you play music in church, you know this struggle. So even if you dismiss my 1st part, and there really is a god, your 1st "mistake" right right sizing your ego. As one who also ran monitors for many big name Christian acts, I can tell you guitar player ego and pride - just around their gear and all the cool stuff they could do was all too, often very off putting.
Why are you letting people influence your belief in God because they acted stupid? That makes zero sense. Humans, yes even Christians, are very flawed and that's why we need a savior. Go read the word and ask God to show himself to you. I know HE will. Don't let people sway you from salvation. This is not something you want to gamble with. Eternity is real. Whether people believe it or not.
@@cour1988 not sure how you interpreted what I said to come up with a inaccurate story around how and why I dropped my faith, but it had little to do with church & it’s people. Sure there’s plenty of hypocrisy and too many variations of Christian belief held by every adherent, but my leaving Christianity was way more wholistic. Simply telling me to read the Bible and pray is woefully way past where I’ve already journeyed for years my friend. And to then possibly retort “well just keep doing it, I know God will eventually do something…” would just fall on deaf ears. So I guess I’ve just been given up to a reprobate heart…
Hey guys reading these comments I got to say, I got what @ardbegthequestion said. Tbh the most things I deal with in my walk with God are Christian people. But I just remember that it’s not the people I trust or put my faith in anyways. But thank you guys for checking out the video. Hope I can help in anyway I can
@@ardbegthequestion It just sounded like you stated there's no god and then went on to say how people are trying to be Rockstars so I assumed that had something to do with your disgust with Christianity. Sorry if I read that wrong. I play in a pretty small church. Few hundred people. I play to serve them. To help in whatever way I can so they can put aside the crap they have been dealing with all week to hopefully get refreshed so they can face the next week with His help. In the world we live in it's a constant barrage of information every day. The stress and anxiety levels of even small children is completely through the roof compared to how I grew up. I'm not old. Millennial. Anyway I genuinely hope He finds you again. Most of the time we don't find Him. He finds us. I know you said I'm woefully off and you journeyed through this already but He won't give up on you. Ever.
@@cour1988 - Well I specifically stated that this was a bit of a troll, but I hear you. Church is one of the only things going these days that provide community, accountability and a cohesive moral structure. I can appreciate that and how its helped humanity along. I just cannot play church when, ontologically I no longer have good reasons to believe in the spiritual realm. Just a question for you to consider. Not sure if your a parent or not, if so, this will probably be easier to step into. Imagine being a father and your kid struggles for years with your relationship. Eventually, your lack of engagement of meeting that kid where he was at and providing what he needed meant that he moved on. He moved out of the house and found friendship and fatherly love outside of what you were able to give. He stayed open to the idea of you being a part of his life again, but you still never call, write him a letter, but sometimes communicate through others that you love him so much. You don't pick up the phone or open the door when the kid decides against his better judgement and countless disappointments to make a first move. Why would one decidedly make space for this father? He clearly & demonstrably doesn't care. Now this is just the emotional appeal. And like I stated, this is just one of many problems the make the Yahweh character an incoherent concept. So, all this being said, I can again, hear your heart and understand where you are coming from, but I honestly would just say in reverse, maybe my story and breaking in this little bubble on the internet may be a divergence on your journey and wrestle with what is true.
