Courtney Lancaster from the Heal/Create Podcast joins us and shares her powerful story, including her time singing worship at Bethel and attending Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry. It seems most either have negative or positive opinions about what Bethel Church is up to. Courtney is more nuanced about her time there. Learn about some of the spiritual baggage she brought into, and out of Bethel, how she learned to heal from trauma, how this has unlocked her ability to create, and how she wants to help others (maybe you?) heal so they can unlock their creative potential. Plus listener feedback, what we're consuming, & Courtney survives (endures?) a round of Jeff's Rapid Fire. #podcast #jesus #christianity #worship #bethel #deconstruction #reconstruction
"Healing is so possible, and my hope is that everything that I offer reminds you of who you truly are, helps you heal what’s in the way, and returns you to your creative power, once and for all."
About Courtney from www.courtneylancaster.co "I was so deeply identified as a victim that I couldn’t see a path forward. The only thing I knew how to do for a while was just wake up every morning. I had two small children, crippling anxiety and depression, and a broken heart full of dreams that I had no idea how to move towards.
It wasn’t always like this. I had been a worship leader and a performer, singing for thousands of people on big stages, and I had dreams of so much more. I have always wanted to sing, pursue music, and express myself through art for as long as I can remember. There were signs of stress, anxiety, and overwhelm as I navigated my adulthood and pursued them, but I didn’t know how to face them, so I ignored them. It wasn’t until a series of panic attacks upended my entire life that I realized that avoiding my pain wasn’t going to work.
9 years ago, I began the journey of healing. I was in therapy, coaching, and reading books every day trying to figure out how to clear the fog and calm the fear, but for a while, I was just treading water. I was circling around and around my pain, but not resolving anything. I had heard that you needed to “feel it to heal it”, so I thought my ticket out was in feeling as much of my pain as possible. This only left me in deep dysregulation, completely frozen and struggling with terrifying dissociation.
I know darkness really, really well.
I did find safety, slowly. I found the right support (something I will teach you how to do, if you need it), and I began to come out of the black hole I had found myself in, but I was still struggling with identity, and missing the vibrancy I had experienced years earlier and still hoped for."

I’m confused, what’s wrong with reckless love? I understand the calling God’s love ‘reckless’ part but what wrong with saying ‘I didn’t earn it, I don’t deserve it’?? We didn’t earn or deserve God’s love and mercy but He gives it to us and we’re saved through His amazing grace….right

It's interesting because i feel like there is a lot in the bible about being in a spiritual warfare and being "on guard" (1 Cor 16:13; 1 Pet 5:8-9). But, to Andy's point, not *everything* is some mystical spiritual "sign" that we need to define and determine. I liked the example Jeff brought up of falling and that just being gravity. It's not necessarily some "deeper sign" that we need to determine whether or not it's from God or the devil. Like, yes, the devil is out to get us, but if we put our trust in Christ, (as Courtney pointed out) we're held and cherished by God and we won't be plucked from the palm of his hand (Jn 10:29). Secondly, God's ultimately in charge and reigns *above* the devil. He, while being in charge, is working all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes (Rom 5:8). I think we can find rest in this if you accept that principle. If you do not believe that God is either sovereign or that He is good, then I can see things falling apart... Finally, it's not like we need to stand guard against the devil because if we fail, then God hates us and we're out of communion with him... Our relationship with God is only really dependent on whether or not we trust him (or have faith in him - Romans lol). Even when we fail, we're still loved and cherished by God (Rom 5:8, 8:28-39). Paul describes his failures in Romans 7:7-25), we see a failure by Peter described in Galatians 2, and as Christians we're not expected to be perfect post conversion... By trusting in Jesus we're clothed with Jesus' righteousness (Rom 3:25; Heb 2:17; 1 Jn 2:2, 4:10). So no matter how much we fail, as long as we put our trust in Christ (and that trust will wane at times), we'll be treated as though we were as righteous as Jesus. I tend to think legalism is still very prevalent in certain evangelical circles. If you made it this far down the comment (lol), I'd be curious to see you guys discuss the Protestant idea of the 3 uses of the law and antinomianism. I'd recommend the podcasts Theocast and/or 30 Minutes in the New Testament. I know 30 Minutes in the New Testament also had a couple podcasts on the "Simul" doctrine (the fact that we as Christians are both Saints and Sinners) and the Law/Gospel disctinction. Those two podcasts really revolutionized the way I think of being obeying God and has built up my love for God. Even the way you guys talked about feeling shame (a little after the one hour marker), it made me think about how it's good to feel shame temporarily as long as it points you back to trusting in Jesus. And once you put your trust back in Jesus (trusting in him for your righteousness, that He loves you, that he puts your sins away - casts them as far as the east is from the west - and that he's in control), then I don't see how that shame doesn't immediately dissipate... That seems healthy. We don't have to ignore the guilt and we can still strive for righteousness (while recognizing that it doesn't affect our standing before God). Understandable if you don't get to all of that lol. The topic of shame, spiritual warfare, etc just sparked a bit in my mind lol.

Warning: this is a dangerous game reading comments from your RU-vid videos xD. Gives me the feeling that I'll be heard, so you're going to end up with me writing some of these lengthier responses xD
