A timer times every runner, you're given a barcode which tells you your finish position and the scanners scan your personal barcode and your position barcode. When timer and scanner are uploaded the finish times are synchronised with the positions and therefore the individual runner.
and how does it make it's way onto the barcode which they scan? I'm sure the clock stops once they scan the barcode they give you and your own personal park run number
