@@jennyw9656 Yeah, those too. Those are on, like, a whole other level. I honestly think it should be illegal to make money romanticizing that stuff the way some authors do.
the fact that everybody and they mama in youtube are saying credence and haunting adeline are bad books while booktok are calling them a work of art is something tbh, its like we live in to separate worlds :).
im happy i live in this world tbh. i had no idea how dark the content of haunting adeline actually was when i saw reviews on booktok, just a vague description and a handful of tropes to go off of. i almost unknowingly read it, thankful i didn't because i would not have enjoyed it whatsoever
I know a very cursed book called Justine, first published in 1791 and the author is none other than the infamous Marquis de Sade, this book was so disturbing that Napoleon Bonaparte ordered the author's arrest. And when I read it myself, I kinda understood why. Anyway I like your content
i HATE age gap romances where the female lead is a teenager (legal/not legal). i’m a 17 year old girl, it’s repulsive like?? why are these GROWN women writing these sorts of books? enough!
Honestly I think your theory on Emily Henry books is pretty spot on, because I really enjoyed Happy Place, and I’ve spent a lot of money and time in therapy learning how to speak up for what I want!! 🤣 Also, I read this with some friends and we are old lol and have all been married for awhile and have friends from college that we had ups and downs with, and we found it relatable. I saw a lot of reviews from people saying it was unrealistic that people their age would be such messes but like that’s what we found relatable lol
So many young people believing that people in their late 20s/early 30s all have their shit together is always so funny to hear 😂 I also loved Happy Place!
@@sarawithoutanHmaybe it’s a matter of how much escapism you’re looking for in a book. Because realistically misconception is the source of a lot of interpersonal conflict, but I can see how people don’t want to read about realistic relationship issues!
Haunting Adeline pisses me off because it was so poorly executed and written. Then all the booktok folks were cramming it down our throats like it was a work of art. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been reading fanfiction for a looong time. I’ve read and loved some dark stuff/dead doves, but the execution was careless and the two main characters were insufferable. Another book that was a cool idea with poor execution was Priest by Sierra Simone. (This may be controversial.)
We all have books in the first section that we know are going to be horrible, but we just can't help punishing ourselves :) Funny that you mention the Emily Henry theory.. because my favorite book was Book Lovers. And I found myself relating to the main character because of their love of urban living, a strong love of books/bookstores, putting my found families needs ahead of my own, and having a lot of boundaries.
@@M.H.I.A.F.T. so we're fine with the fact that she fell in love with the guy that raised her and he reciprocated? Dont tell me you excuse The Wild because she was adopted despite the fact that she was raised since she was a baby Also if you need to compare it to worse books then you should know that doesn't make credence better, it makes it look gross and the other authors look even worse
@@M.H.I.A.F.T.ALSO i saw your other comments, your only excuse is that "women deal with this irl" yeah, and no one is rooting for the 17 year old getting with her middle aged god uncle, Sharv. Lolita wasn't a romance either, and yet the author flat put tells you so. Credence is a similar plot played out as an absurd romance.
Lmaoo I also didn’t like Credence so seeing you rant about it was great!! Also thank you for your review for Wrong Place Wrong Time 👏 everyone seems to love that book and I didn’t like it and I don’t get why everyone loves it so much 😭
I started to read Haunting Adeline because so many reviewers said it was good. I knew it was about a stalker, but OMFG I had no idea what was coming 🤢. The “author” needs some serious therapy. I thought the Mafia dark romance thing was strange enough…sizzling hot guy woo’s and wins a beautiful woman and even when she finds out that he’s a drug dealing mass murderer and skilled torturer she still loves him! WTAF 😳. Tbh though I have liked a couple of them because the romance is so sweet, but why do they have to be jam packed with such graphic scenes. We get it, people enjoy getting it on, but I don’t need to have moisture levels and measurements described every other page 🤦♀️
Credence was a book I had explained to me by another booktuber and I am positive that I checked out a few times because omg that whole book is a nightmare. Same thing for Haunting Adeline. Both authors need *help.*
your emily henry scientific theory is 100000% accurate and i am so on board re: people we meet on vacation and book lovers. i hated happy place because harriet is simply not relatable to me whatsoever and she was just annoying to me!
I’m someone who isn’t unfamiliar with the Dead Dove: Do Not Eat tag on ao3 and even I couldn’t fuck with Credence. Vile. Foul. Badly written to boot. The author owes me financial compensation for emotional damage that will immediately be going to my therapist.
Your Emily Henry theory is definitely correct😂 I’ve only read book lovers and happy place so far, LOVED book lovers, and thought happy place was meh. I identified with Nora so much but Harriet not at all
wrong place wrong time was v frustrating for me. great premise but the FMC was just so passive most of the book. like she could have easily solved the mystery in a week if she really tried esp since there are no consequences for things she does. it felt like she was just learning the same lessons about motherhood over and over and over
Absolutely hilarious video 😆 I died at the audio clip oh my god. I love your rants and comedic reviews, so thank you! Also YES with your opinions of How High We Go In the Dark and The Roughest Draft. I agree so hard and now I feel validated 😤
I LOVE this video. I love how candid you are, and genuine. I don't see any of these this way bec they don't want to upset people. Some books are so overhyped, and such let downs. I don't get alot of reading time, and damn does it hurt to be BETRAYED like that. I need more of these videos from you with overhyped books. The books that are everywhere and honestly not that good!
i felt bad for the pushy friend because the reason she was being pushy was because no one else cared about the friendship. either way they all were lame! lol
I loved How High We Go in the Dark but omg I also high-key agree with you on the pig story being the worst. When I saw people saying that story specifically made them cry I was like oh no, it's gonna be sad, and then I read it, and I just didn't get it! I was not sad! I was mostly confused and also it kinda made me laugh tbh.
I am going to be reading Haunting Adeline and Credence for a dark romance vlog too and I am scaredddd as someone who has never read dark romance at all
🔪It’s so funny seeing how people all have different fav Emily Henry books bc People We Meet is my LEAST favorite of hers, I did not like Poppy at all (no shade to you girlie 💖) and I thought their reason for falling out was so dumb. Happy Place isn’t my fav but I did enjoy it way more that People We Meet
I have a question actually! In terms of dark romance, is there anyone that has any recommendations for generally good ones? I have no real preferences because I've never read dark romance but am a little interested (can trigger warnings be included in these recs, please?). I just know that I'm not big on massive age gaps, cheating, or non-consensual activity being sexualized :}
born darkly by trisha wolfe (tw: murder, torture, mention of pedophilia) - this is about a criminal psychologist and a serial killer who fall in love mindf*ck by st abby (tw: murder, torture, one chapter has pretty graphic SA but it's not sexualized) - a good for her story about a girl who revenge kills the men who left her for dead and she's dating the FBI agent who is working her case still beating by jennifer hartmann (tw: kidnap, torture, SA but not sexualized) - a girl and her BIL are kidnapped together by a serial killer and have to cope with aftermath of their harrowing experience butcher & blackbird by brynne weaver (tw: murder, torture, minor cannibalism) - two serial killers who murder other killers cross paths and decide to do a yearly competition where they hunt down the same victim and whoever kills them first wins these are the best i've read! i for some reason really like serial killer romances lmao. none of these glorify non-consent. any SA mentioned is demonized and sex between MCs is desired.
I love ACOTAR (because of the stereotypical got me back into reading) and I genuinely think Throne of Glass was great. But omg do I refuse to read Crescent City! When I saw spoilers that they introduced ACOTAR characters it turned me off of it immediately. Like we don’t need more?? It just really makes it fanfic wattpad nonsense
Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha. Yesssssss. I hated Mafia Mistress. That voice. That story. Just no 😂. Totally listened to the rest of the series anyway. First book was the worst.
I'm the opposite, I actually think i dislike the Emily Henry books that i relate to MORE than the ones i don't lmao. I didn't enjoy Happy Place, i also am terrible at communication and standing up for myself. Beach Read (and in some ways also Happy Place) hit way too close to home on the parental relationships for me so i also didn't enjoy Beach Read lmao. I'm BEGGING her to make Funny Story good and also not mention one single parent at all the entire time lmao. I need some PEACE.
Firstly, I haven’t read an Emily Hendry book that I’ve liked so I’ll never read Happy Place because that’s not fair to the author or myself. Second, I really liked the ending of House of Sky and Breath, it was very well done; in my opinion 😂 And lastly, I must admit that I liked your book titles much better than the originals😂 I had to come back because I forgot to leave a knife emoji🔪
i love spoilers sm, bc i never read credence but ik prison isn’t enough for ppl that like that book😭 the author is going to be on the expressway to hell bccc an uncle niece romance 🧍🏾♀️satan must’ve took their hand and guided it!!
I have trouble considering Haunting Adeline dark romance because.... there's really no romance in it??? It's just all SA and worse. I think my definition of "dark romance" might just be.... Grey Romance or something lol.
I'm sorry. I know it's the worst for you, to have read these books, but you're videos about books you didn't like are so funny - I just can't. I'm laughing my ass off right now and I'm just 3 minutes in.🔪
Im not saying i agree with everything. Though i feel like sometimes they make the girls young and naive to relate to younger adults (17+), so that way someone of that age can relate to and fantasize that its them. Or so if manipulation is a plot point a 27+ woman is going to be as gullible a younger woman (17+). Again not saying i agree just a thought.
I love your earrings they're so pretty ❤ so happy I found your channel you don't bs anything🔪. Emily Henry theory 100% right my favourite is book lovers bus I related to Nora 🔪
I ended up just leaving Haunting Adeline at a brewery I was at for shits and giggles because I truly did not want it on my bookshelf after reading the first half. 🥲 What irks me so bad is that the sex and romance ISN’T EVEN GOOD. There is more of Zade and his Qanon conspiracy rescue missions than actual content of him and the main character. It felt like the weirdest self-insert fanfiction that somehow got published. 😭
@@-autumnfeelingssaw the synopsis and a few reviews of the fall away books, its incest romance, not sure whats good about that. I got more out of the reviews anyway because the synopsis gives you basically nothing
As a SJM girly lemme tell you that I am so not on board with the crossover of crescent city into ACOTAR. I would have loved if the book would have finished before all that stuff happened right at the end because it made me so mad... I am literally still upset about it even though I read it right when it came out. buuuut I do think I will continue with it because apparently I like to punish myself ... 🗿
Haunting Adeline read like an AI was told to embody an edgelord. The characters really read like action figures the author smashes into each other. No depth, no themes, no nothing (except antisemitism and weird qanon theories)
NO WAIT I NEED TO SEE HIS REACTION TO HER CALLING HIM A VAMPIRE 16:16 😭😭 like, i think thats actually hilarious. if there wasnt a drug plot, i would legit love a story with a girl so obsessed with a piece of media that she’s trying to confirm it’s real irl. messes up her chances of getting with her longtime crush cause hes like “???” when she tries to claim hes a vampire (hes just a normal human). absolutely beautiful and i support a delulu MC
They actually have sex in the woods after this scene and she wakes up lying naked alone and a bear comes and eats a flower that Everett left laying on her chest. And then they kill her dad together
What I learned today: Sara without an h = solid Sarah with an h = sus PS. LOVED the alternate titles 😂 PPS. I think your Emily Henry theory is close to true. I don't think I relate to Harriet but I can relate to what she and Wyn went through... in a way and I definitely think having that connection influenced my feelings towards the book.
I didn't like Maas's books until Crescent City and now she's gone and ruined it adding Rhysand to the series, only loyal fans would care and if youre not willing to encite new readers then why should I bother with you is how I feel now.
