Here is Car Buying Decision Explored for Middle Class in India. Know Cars which can destroy wealth by taking wrong financial decision in terms of buying in SUV, Mid SUV, Large size expensive Cars
I am a senior finance professional. After a long time find such a logical, truthful presentation from someone from the next generation. Great job done.🎉
This current generation definitely needs to see this video! It hurts 100% when someone you know is purchasing an expensive car beyond their capacity but doesn't even have an entry level health insurance to support his family in an unexpected situation.
90% ppl dont know the use of sunroofs. Sunroofs are meant for specific places and uses.. but in India things are bought for showoff not for the use... In India sunroofs are bought for poking head out 😂😂
Bought Creta base variant mar 2021. Rs 11.5lakhs on road. Paid EMI of Rs 15100/- for 3 years. Sold April 2024 @Rs 8.35lakhs after 33k km . foreclosed loan. Not to mention petrol and running cost for 3 years. Loss hi loss. Show - Off ki chakkar main bahut loss ho gaya. Reason for selling - EMI chalana muskil ho raha tha being middle class with family 2 kids and parents. Now I use my brothers 2010 model Alto whenever I need. It has AC and power steering. I m happy to be free from EMi and depreciation. Peace of mind . Edit 1 - Forgot to mention something. I learnt that people don't care about your after market mods. I had done mods worth about 1.5 lakhs like 10.25 inch screen , Harman component speakers, faux leather seats , steering mounted controls , 16 channel amp etc, all people kept asking to judge it's price was whether it has sun roof or not. People really don't understand variants. They judge by three things , alloy wheels, touch screen and run roof ...
Then why invested 1.5 lakh if you had 2 kids ...... bro show off krne kliye invest kro portfolio bnao car to aa hi jaegi ...... And secondly car use k hisab se lo not to impress or bhaukal

My Swift vxi is 18 years and crossed 1 lac kms, never had any major issues. By spending around ₹2 lacs to restore and upgrade, I can use it for another 10 years ( if the govt permits) for my limited usage.
Asli ke note - if u want savings mentality use real cash. Very good advice. Cannot believe someone on RU-vid will give genuine advice. Hats off to you ❤
The statement that "car is a depreciating asset" is completely wrong. And the wrong part is "asset" A car is not an asset, it is a commodity which you use and with use, its value will come down. So don't buy it like an asset, buy it like a commodity considering why you need it and will you be able to do justice to the hard earned money that you pay for it.
A car is an asset if used for business, if it generates income like (renting) or if it improves productivity. A commodity is only for consumption. Gagan is right in the video for calling a car an asset. Most Indians today use cars as commodities and treat it like commodities whereas in other countries cars are maintained by car owners as if it's an asset to the owner. Older generation Indians treated the car as an asset and maintained it well. All assets depreciate in value over time, so Gagan is right in stating the same as well.
Well said..cars are white elephants. I am a Doctorate in Mech Engg and have handsome income. I drive a 800 cc Renault kwid NXT which has all the requirements like power windows, power steering, entertainment, AC and most Importantly fuel economy. It gives me 28 km/ lit on highway after running 85,000 kms. It is compact easy to maneuver, easy to park and almost zero maintainance cost. It's pickup is extraordinary, even big SUVs can't beat it and when i overtake them on highways, i feel sorry for them. My colleagues who earn half of my income drive SUVs and they drive only on weekends because for daily travel, the cost is exorbitant and parking at work place is big problem. Earlier they used to tease me but now they are appreciating me but I don't bother about their comment I am happy with my life and that is important to me..

Same here-.. Driving i20 sports in Delhi.. Total KM done 71000,, No problem with the Car.. Problem is the 15 year rule.. Else, I would'nt be planning for a new car.. 😪
I have a 15 year old swift dzire zdi and will be renewing the registration. this car is very reliable even after 3 lacs kms on odo . I was thinking of selling this car and buying a new one. This video has opened my eyes to the financial mistake I would have made if I bought a new car.. I thank you sir for this great information.
I am 74 years, single, still driving in 80/90 kph speed on highways, driving 14 yr old Santro xing GLS runs like a song. Very sturdy with very quick pick up, strong AC. Next year l will extend registration for another 5 years. I will be 80 and on principle won't take long drive. Will keep this car until govt rules allow.
Hi sir/ma'am, since you mentioned your age ,I want to ask you a question as a 28 years old. When you were in your 20's or 30's ,what were the things that you thought were really important that now at 70 it feels like they were not important at all?? And what best piece of advice would you like to give to a 28 year old about life??
I am a doctor with fairly good salary and i am driving a 2011 chev BEAT..people all around me r buying cars beyond their salary cap with EMIs & then they hv to earn for that bank..nvr understood why & how..most ppl r buying for show off!!!
Hi Doctor, I support your judgment. You are doing well. People are crazy about the new cars. Please keep it till you sip the last drop of juice out of it. I own ecosport and have no issues with it. I have tried every car from c suv to big suv like harrier and xuv700. They are not like the old ones. You feel something is missing in them. I am afraid to change my ecosport as I feel there may not be any other car like it. You rock with the old ones only. Keep rocking doctor
@@dkstyles9612 I don’t think a car or ur clothes or anything superficial should define ur personality brother..maybe that’s d problem wd our generation..personality is wat we r as a person!!
Finally someone tell truth about consumer buying behaviour,I purchased secand hand ford fiesta with cash and I am happy about with car, I was planning pay down payment and book a new car but Now i am happy No mentanance No EMI ha thoda mileage kam hai lekin chal jata 😊
Seven years later, my elite i20 continues to run flawlessly. I originally intended to sell it after a decade, but you've changed my perspective. Now, I plan to drive it for fifteen years.
Safari is not for middle class people period....Its for upper middle class and rich people who already have a german luxury car at home. Their priority is comfort, luxury, safety and road presence. They are not bothered about middle class things like resale, service network, mileage, maintenance cost.etc. They are not bothered about minor electronic glitches, since they already have 2-3 other cars at home and also only few units have glitches not all of them. They know that if gadgets are there, there will be minor glitches.....
Yes a much needed information and piece of advice, i thought of upgrading to creata N line and it costs me close to 23+ lakhs i will stick on with Honda Amaze brought on 2018 it still works fine and has Honda reliability I wanted to change only because of my friends peers and cousins and none are going to support me financially anytime, so it would make sense for me to save this money and use them to buy me home sometime later in the future.
Gaganbhai ekdum perfect bola aapne. I owned Maruti since 20 years only yearly service visits were now after buying SUV almost every 3 months I land up in service centre. 👍👍
I had done 2.5 lakh km in maruti 800 (2002 model) and 3 lakh in alto k10 (2011 model )no major issues came and was sold with original engine ......now I have wagonr (2021 model) with 70k km done and still runs like new .......maruti engines are best even with bs6 norms
I almost fell for this trap. I own a four year old honda jazz vx cvt, butter smooth. Not a single issue till now. 46k kms. Was planning to upgrade to elevate. Then i thought to myself, why ? I didnt need it. Now i am very much satisfied and plan to keep my car for another 6 years
Sir, your suggestions are very much valuable. You had suggested Michelin tyres for car in a video which you have uploaded a few years ago and I switched to Michelin for my elite i20. Seriously the tyres has hardly lost any grip even after driving the car for 50k+ kms after switching to Michelin, also it punctures less. The financial advices in this video also feels helpful. Thank you.
One thing which everyone fails to understand. Cars are not asset, they are consumables. Similar to AC, Fridge, mobile etc... You buy it for luxury, not to earn profit on sale.
I love my 15-year-old Honda City Sedan manual transmission petrol. It's reliable, with a smooth-running AC, spacious interior, and ample boot space. The original speakers still sound great, the analog instrument cluster is dependable, and the central locking works perfectly. The engine runs well, making driving enjoyable. No need for an upgrade!
I have a 6 year old used city 60k odo (4th gen) (I bought it used when it had 3 year & 38k odo), only problem it had was Rs.100 switch was replaced other than the usual maintenance (I don't follow Honda's every 1 year service bullshit).
The thumb rule is to buy a car worth half your budget. If your budget is 10 lakh, buy a second hand for a 5, if it's 5, and you don't get a good car, you're better off not buying a car.
Hatchback is the best for city use + some extend highway use also, Punch,Tiago, i10 nios, swift bas enough. It is better to buy a Flat of 30-50 lakhs rather than a car..
Really eye-opening session. In ongoing glam sham , permanent liability are created for permanent headaches in form of EMI. Aur Sach baat hai , kisi ko koi farak nahi padta ki aap kya chalate ho.
Car Manufacturers & Banks be like: Arey baap re ye to dhoti khol raha hai. . . . Anyways such a relevant video. Every word makes so much sense. Kudos for such practical advice.
U simply nailed it. One should always purchase a car while always keeping the practicality in mind. The car must be economical, spacious, comfortable n must give a feel good factor.
Your video supported my decision not to buy the new Creta diesel with a sunroof. I have a Swift diesel top-end with a smooth 22 km mileage without any issues... Thanks..
You are the only person who raised this sensible topic, i hope this sheep race and herd mentality people will understand if theh saw this video, subscribed!
Sir definitely it was eye opening video, totally agree 👌🏻 i was about to sell my brezza vdi automatic 2019 model just 5 yrs old car which had done 55k kms only & but dropped the plan because of emi .
I have a 7 year old Honda jazz. I am facing height issue in this car. So considering to buy a heighted suv as i tried changing the shock absorbers but no use. Please advise if i should spend 15-20L and buy a suv for my 5 person family. (Living in mumbai city)
I drive an alto 2006 model, planning to change my car....for a bolero neo for its mid feature ( I live in hilly terrain) figure it's a helpful feature. Please advice if it's a good investment. If not which car should I consider. We are a family of five. Thank you
Over priced innova hycross, fortuner, over priced Scorpio and XUV700. ln fact none of the cars in the Indian Passenger market are VFM.. All are auper duper total waste of hard earned money. The govt is earning a lot of taxes and the automobile industry still keeps selling old and scrap models in India.
This guy here is a gem of an individual...Absolute bang on explanation....people are going crazy on car loans without seeing the interest....Very well said sir...
People are buying suv not just because of the trend. The fault lies also in the infrastructure and reducing parking spaces. For example I chose suv because of their class leading GL and a sedan was not fitting in my garage which is why I went for elevate instead of city even though I wanted city since childhood.
@@ranitsen4491I really don't understand your point. SUV is bigger than Sedan class. How come you upgrade from Sedan to SUV if your Sedan wasn't fitting in your garage?
I love my 2nd generation HONDA CITY (original Japanese) but 15 years rule is hurting. Specially when all the pollution is being monitored by the govt. It's unnecessary and unjustified to force to scrap the vehicle which is running well under the pollution limits.
Excellent episode....so very thoughtful of you. Middle class ' misplaced sense of aspiration needs such direct, in-your-face shake ups.... But pls do NOT leave out your signature "Kaise Hain Aap!"😢
Hello, loved your suggestions. I own a 2019 Dzire VXI and happy with performance and is enough for my family needs. The only concern I have is on safety, and planning to buy a safe SUV car with automatic gear box. The need of SUV body type is genuine as I will be using it in the farm mostly so need higher ground clearance, bigger and extended boot to carry goods. Considering all these I'm planning to go for MG Astor Select CVT, would that be a good option? Dropped Creta and Seltos for Safety and price point, I'm getting Astor at almost 3Lakhs lesser to Creta and Seltos, which I can consider to account for running cost since Astor has lower FE. Please suggest
I have been following you for a long time, and I agree with every point you have made. Although many people nowadays fall into the trap of digital money and easy money availability, I could completely relate to the part where you said, "Pay in cash." I did this when buying my home. Even 200,000 rupees in 500 rupee notes looks like a substantial amount. I believe that if people start using cash instead of digital money, they might think more carefully before making any decisions.
Currently my go to recommendation for family purpose is either MS Baleno or Fronx(1.0 turbo) if going for a hatch. In sedans Honda Amaze is a very practical car for everyday use and long touring. In sub compact SUVs, either sonet or brezza. This is my upper limit and I'll not go for anything higher than this segment. I may compromise on few gimmicky features but I'll not have any major reliability issues as well. Because as the elctronics keep getting loaded in a car, so are the reliability issues. I'm not interested in Tata or Mahindra because of small niggles those cars have.
@@bhupinderbajwa5 what was the exchange price of Alto? I am also planning to exchange my 8 yr old Alto for Brezza base LXI variant. They quoted 2.2L for my old Alto..
@@SanthoshKumar-in4dl I didn't exchange my Alto because of some reason I emotionally connected with my Alto. In terms of exchange I think Maruti,s True Value give better value.
@@ambrishkumar2905it's not about issue. It's a feature which is meant for cold countries, not a hot country like India. The cons are more than the pros.
We are in Delhi NCR, with a 85k salary, and home loan EMI of 23k. Many a times I and wifey discuss about a car, but after some simple calculation, we arrive at a simple conclusion of not purchasing car and living happily. In Delhi NCR, Delhi Metro and Noida metro a working fine. Then state transporters like UPSRTC, UKSRTC, HPRTC, JKSRTC are offering some superior class Volvo bus and these days expressways, excellent roads are there. My 5 yr old Avenger Cruise 220cc is working superbly, rest we depend on Olas and Ubers. I certainly think that I don't need a car. Indian burgeoning middle class is running actually after only show-off.
A personal car is a must, get one used car even if it has to be Alto or Nano, in times of emergency u have your car to get from A to B. Just think it, we all fell sick, bhagwan na karre think like it, your wife aur children fall extremely sick that u need to rush to hospital asap (this case has happened with in my family end number of times) what will u do, will wait for Ola? Get a car buddy
@imagination359: His opening line is purposefully devoid of emotion and speaks logically about needless showing off in buying large cars when not needed. Even he knows his opening punch line is very popular so why else would he not use it when it is always delivered in his last 500 videos.
perfectly said Sirji I could have gone for XUV700 topend petrol but didnt go overboard with the new purchase and choose XL6 Alpha+ MT since that satisfied most of my requirement at almost 50% of the cost
Even me too thinking like that but only panoramic sunroof and safety is the concern 😢. I'm thinking of buying AX5 . Don't know if that's the correct decision or not
@@rajeshv4068 XUV700 is an awesome package overall pls dont get me wrong -- I choose XL6 over XUV700 bcz that suited most of my requirements that too at a lower price My suggestion will be: First evaluate your needs & why you want to purchase a new car Then figure out your finances - This will give you price range Take multiple testrides (alone & with family) of whatever cars you've shortlisted Then take an informed decision About safety: dont blindly compare 5stars vs 3stars About panaromic: Sunroof is not a necessary feature imho If you are still confused than Mycarhelpline provides paid guidance services -- you can opt for it -- it will be a wise investment Note: I am not in anyway related to Mycarhelpline buiness Best wishes Keep us posted what you went for & why
So glad to see your honest review. This is one of the best video I have seen in recent years where a person is giving the right suggestions to the people.
Awesome video sirji. Everyone is saying to buy which car but you are saying why to buy car if you already have one. I'm in a dilemma, I'm having 2020 Hyundai grand i10 nios, put up 50k kms. It's 2 star rated, so should I buy another one or continue with it. Need your advice sir. Thanks.
Super info bro. Thanks to your videos I could buy a glanza g in 2020 & am happy with my decision. You taught me how to negotiate with the price & interest rates, & make sure I am getting the latest car & not old one. I learnt so much from you. Love you bro
I own a 2021 Honda wrv 1.2 ltr petrol the car it self is good but it gives a milaga of 6 to 7,8 kmpl in city ( i live in a hill station ) and 12 to 13 kmpl in highway. I'm thinking of buy the new xuv 3xo diesel which has a milage of 20 kmpl . Should I buy is or not ?
Very nicely presented. I was in the process of checking out new cars although I own one that is AMT and works just fine, just so that I could buy a bigger vehicle for the family. But your video helped me to make a decision of not buying a new car as you rightfully said that at the end of the day car is an asset whose value keeps depreciating with time ..almost a liability. Thanks once again for an honest presentation. God bless
