You did a great job cleaning the ear... but no matter how many times he flushes that ear it’s not ever going to clear up without an antibiotic.. in my opinion going to the vet in this case is non negotiable.. the vet needs to take a cytology of the ear and look under the microscope to determine what type of infection it is and then treat it accordingly.. Mason if you have not already taken your dog to the vet please do so ASAP.
Ya that def infection for sure. U wipe away the goop it makes but it won't cure underlying cause. . that has got to be so itchy and sore . Pup prob very least doing some extra head shaking or rubbing on floor and when u scratch his ears he prob likes it even more now bc his ear are itchy as heck on the inside
Agreed. I have a yorkie-poo, so very long ears. No matter what we do every year we still have to get his ear antibiotics treatment or else he would be miserable. Cleaning is just one part of the car for dogs with long ears.
It’s so sad, you can tell that while the dog isn’t finding this super comfortable, the dog also seems to be feeling relief. I’m so glad this dog got in to see you. Its owners need to be more diligent for this poor little buddy’s health.
The dog must have been shaking it’s ear or it must have been flopped down or pawing it or looking dejected, lots of signs that it was unhappy. These people!
Keep in mind, our human fingers don't really fit into a dogs ear of this size. Use bits and pieces of cotton balls and a hemostat to help get into all the nooks and crannies of skin flaps in the ears to get what you can see cleaned. A locking hemostat could have helped here, so I could let go while the locking mechanism could keep the cotton ball stable in the hemostat, but I have regular hemostats, and they do just fine. Help the dog feel better. If you need to go to a veterinarian, it is yes, the pet owners option, but some folks may or may not go, as a groomer, cleaning ears is part of the routine of pet grooming. Here I have asked what the pet parent would like me to do, and cleaning and flushing was his option. Thank you for watching. www.myfavoritegroomer.com/product-page/ear-cleaning-kit-now-comes-with-ear-hair-puller-pad www.myfavoritegroomer.com/product-page/hemostats-nonlocking www.myfavoritegroomer.com/search-results-page/ear
Now my dog has an ear infection like this. The vet constantly packs. As a groomer the ear being this bad. What is your cleaning reccomendation clean whay you can and recheck daily??
Dogs with flat ears need to be check regularly for this. I just adopted a dog with a yeast infection very similar looking to this. It’s so bad the inner ear canal looks like it’s covered in mud. Vet gave me meds and solution but I don’t feel comfortable going that deep into the canal so the cleaning process has been pretty slow 😫
Nice to see how much you care. I took my dog to the vet for her ears to be plucked as I was concerned she'd get infections (she's a hairy breed in her ears). They told me nothing was wrong and just continue cleaning them as normal, refused to pluck and suggested groomers should do it. Groomer then found that it was infected so I'm having to go back again. Wish I'd been more insistent with the vet with my worries in the first place.
This is why I don’t own a pet. If I can’t afford to keep my pet in good health, I’m not ready for one. Best part - when the dog tried to get the muzzle off, as if to say, I have to bite this lady cause I can’t take it any more! 😂🤣
How do you know it’s something out of the owner’s hands? You can’t go assuming! You never know if the dog is developing cancer or a disease simply unable to be cursed with current veterinary technology.
I also reccomend looking into the lifestyles of the longest lived dogs. The record holder bluey died at 29 years old. They need way more excersize than people think
My dogs ears are chronically inflammed & infected. He has an auto-immune issue. We have him on a special diet and he has a medication protocol that we adhere to religiously. His ears are groomed daily. Still he gets horrible smelly ears. You cannot imagine the heart break of doing everything you & your vet know to do to help your poor pup! We do the best we can. And dont feel his challegnes are worthy of being put down. Because in reality that is the only way we can stop the cycle of infections permenantly. Its hard enough to deal with a special needs dog, who I adopted as a healthy one yr old(I made a commitment to him), without strangers and especially groomers who brow beat me every time as if Im not doing enough for him. As if Im neglecting him and causing him suffering. All that to say this. You dont know what the situation is so stop judging what you dont know! If this owner was neglecting their dog they would not have taken them to the groomer!
My last poodle Ivan came from an unscrupulous German breeder with ears like that. Our vet said that at 11 months old, he was days away from going deaf from the infected eardrums. It took 3 months of veterinary and constant home care to heal Ivan’s ears. It’s CRIMINAL to neglect a dogs ear care like this. You are doing great work. I’d be inclined to give this dog a light sedative though.
I’m so happy you spoke calmly with this sweet pup. This was clearly an uncomfortable situation for it, but you did amazing. Not just with the cleaning but with the way to calmed the dog down and that can make a world of difference.
that poor doggy has had that ear infection for a while. you know it has been scratching it's ear and should have been treated by the owner. it is so inflamed and red. poor baby.
I found out my poor dog has an ear infection after changing to a new vet. When I brought up the suspect ear to my old one he said it "looks fine" and I hadn't dealt with ear infections in dogs before so I just accepted it. :( Seeing the gunk that comes out of my poor boy's ear now is just NASTY
My poor fur baby had a problem with his ears he couldn’t stop scratching so we took him to the vet he prescribed some ear drops but the relief was temporary and the infection continue( his ears started looking similar to this cutie ) until I found out he was having an allergic reaction to my fabric softener ( I don’t use it on his stuff but I used it on my clothing and my sheets ) once I changed it , problem solved , I was using the Mrs Myers Honeysuckle which btw didn’t knew honeysuckle is TOXIC to dogs , I felt horrible and threw it away immediately 😑
I like your channel! From what I know, though I'm not an expert, you did a great job! I imagine this helped the dog feel better and heal. There are many comments here saying scissors but those were not scissors; they were an instrument that holds pieces of cotton ball since as you said the holes weren't big enough for fingers. I briefly worked as a dog groomer assistant so would do this but with fewer tools because that's what they had. I like your technique and tools. Did you put anything on the cotton balls? Did you decide not to pluck this dog's ear hair and so not use ear powder? My own dog has ongoing ear issues so I actually may contact you with a question.
I went to the vet with my dog it had problems in both ears gave me a wash that dissolves the black smelly stuff the drops to put in the ear my dog is very happy now
Right?!! Because the poor babies have scratched and scratched their ears so much that the internal part of their ears have suffered so much trauma from their toenails. 😢 So sad! Looks like cauliflower ear on a dog.
Poor baby🥺I’m glad u helped him. I bet those ears bothered him so much. I also like the style of this video with the captions of what u was using and the calming atmosphere!
Some pet owners just don’t get it! They just about provide the basics not realising, or just being ignorant to, all the care animals need. They shouldn’t own a pet if they really can’t afford it.
@@kdsgirly5573 It is infuriating that when people are too dumb to care for kids, they get them taken away, but all those morons can happily own any pet and treat it like shit, or not treat it at all, till that poor thing just dies. No one really bats an eye, it's disgusting. You should be tested before getting to buy a pet.
In all fairness, maybe they didn’t realize how bad it had gotten. When I got my first dog, I thought he just had really smelly ears until he started acting unwell. We went to the vet right away, and it turned out that my little guy had a very nasty double ear infection! I felt horrible knowing that he’d been in pain for awhile. Now I check and clean his ears regularly, and there haven’t been anymore ear problems.
@@creative_thimble560 Exactly, it’s easy to point fingers when the video tells you what’s wrong but a lot of times people simply don’t know there’s a problem. I had a puppy that constantly licked his butt and I had no idea it was infected anal glands until he went in for grooming. It’s just not on everyone’s radar until it happens and then you learn from it
That ear has got to be super painful! Look at the inflammation! It looks like a yeast infection to me. I used to have a lab that had cronic ear infections. I would follow what follow what the vet told me to do, but it kept getting worse, so since the vet told me it was yeast, I went to the store and got monostat 7, and after flushing and drying the ear, I used that which healed it, but I had to do it every 3 months, because the yeast never went away. If I knew then what I know now, I would have changed her food. Back then I did not know how to help her that way, and apparently neither did the vet.
It also could’ve been environmental allergies for your dog. My dog has been on different vet brand foods for allergies, limited ingredient kibble food, homemade raw, homemade cooked, etc with different proteins and etc. We discovered it wasn’t food and so we went for allergy testing and it was dust she was allergic too. Now she’s on medication to hopefully help her slowly become immune to the allergens by giving her medication with the allergen at low doses and after a few months a higher dose plus some anti inflammatory medications etc. She still suffers from ear infections but not as much
OH my god that poor sweetheart's ears!! They are bright red and so angry. This makes my heart hurt. So much so I was actually crying out in sympathy. my own dog came to give me a it's okay pat.
my dads dog has ears that look the same. i knew it was an infection but i didnt know it was a severe thing. he wont take her to the vet and i want to help her but idk how, rn im just trynna clean it out with cotton swabs. its not ideal but its the only thing she'll stay put for. i cant get her diagnosed so hopfully i can just look up a good ear serum and use that instead.
My dog had a foxtail grass in its ear canal. Then only a veterinarian can help to find out. She was in so much pain. You end up going in the ear without seeing what's going on, then you push the foxtail deeper.
@@myfavoritegroomerI'm not really sure what your point was. It sounded like you were saying your job was to clean not worry if there was a foxtail inside.
I'm going to be honest and say I would never let my dog have her ears cleaned here. That poking with such a sharp instrument is *incredibly* risky. You can and should flush the ears instead. Also it is obviously an infection in the ear so its going to need antibiotics in the ear.
I'm always checking my dog's ears. Even when I had cat's I checked them constantly. It's sad they bring in sooner. My dog just got a clean bill of health from her vet.
I have a poodle that gets this fungus nonstop. The vet has treated multiple times and it keeps coming back. All you can do is clean the ear nearly every day and it still won’t go away. Also when the ear has this much fungus, the soft tissue is very susceptible to wounds from pulling the hair. I use blunt scissors to trim out the hair instead of pulling.
My second dog is a softie that I rescued myself and he was groomed by a professional the first time in his life when I had to put him in a shelter before taking him home, since I had to make a space big enough for him and my seven years lady to live comfortably together (he's a large size and my first dog a medium to little size). So when I took him home I knew he had experienced at least once some grooming, but I decided to wait and gain his trust before touching him as I don't have professional gear at home. I always groomed my first dog myself since I can't afford to pay for professional grooming, so I have quite the confidence around the tools and the pet's potential behaviours, but to make sure I wouldn't hurt him or make him uncomfortable I still payed for another grooming a year later. Of course the least I expected from an expert was a head to toe check-up, but after some time he started shaking his head and persistently scratching his ears. So I immediately knew something was wrong. I tought he had ticks or some other parasite behind his ears, something like, that, and he didn't... Then I checked inside his ears and while one was clean, the other was in a terrible state. Just at a first glance I could tell it was probably infected (fortunately that wasn't the case): I urgently bought cotton disks and sticks, a bottle of apposite oil and a pair of gloves and started cleaning it. At first I took out a HUGE lump of slimy, black and violet substance. Then I cleaned the rest: dirt was GLUED to his ear and the poor thing was crying like crazy, it took me two hours to finish. So watching this I'm so glad you do a complete check-up on the dogs, you're doing a wonderful job 👍🏼👍🏼
Ooh poor baby l do mine every two days do not want that build up. He is a fox hound and has big ears who loves to roll around and dig in the dirt. Man some days the dirt that comes out unbelievable. Got to keep em clean.
my dog has a lot of wax in one ear similar to this but not as bad and i clean in with ear wipes for pets every 2 days. The vet said it was yeast and gave me some ointment to use that doesn't really work. Do you know what causes this?
Water getting in the ear is one reason and the other I have found is allergies to food the pet is eating. Could be many other reasons but as a groomer these are what I see most of the time in my opinion. www.myfavoritegroomer.com/search-results-page/ear
My dog has lots of black like black wax all over its ear and I can't find anything to get the black off the dog's ear could you tell me something to use please and you're excellent dog groomer
yes, in most cases, www.myfavoritegroomer.com/product-page/pro-ear-powder. He didn't have a lot of ear hair, he had a lot of other stuff to remove, you know what I mean? www.myfavoritegroomer.com/product-page/ear-cleaning-kit-now-comes-with-ear-hair-puller-pad
As a vet tech, shouldn't you just use the ear flush in the ear. I was told to do it once and wait 5 to 10 minutes and do it again and then wipe everything out.
Groomers use blunt tipped hemostats to avoid injury. She isn't using them in his ear canal, either. Dogs' ears run quite far and she's working on the outside.
What causes this? My poor baby started getting an ear infection like this and I’ve been cleaning his ears, I’m taking him to the vet ASAP but I’m just wondering how this happens?
I feel so bad for this little guy! How do people NOT get that there's a problem with their dog's ears?! I was wondering, did you choose not to use ear powder because of the infection?
He need antibiotics I don’t care how much you clean his ears which is the first thing to do then owner need to take him to the Vet to get some antibiotics for his ears to clear up the infection, but if not his ears will stay swollen and inflamed and pain poor doggy🙏🏾❤️
Working in a veterinarian E.R. please clean your dogs ears regularly and dry them well after they swim or take a bath! Sitting wet ears and dirty ears can cause a nasty ear infection causing you a nasty bill.
My family dog use to get bad yeast infections she had big floppy ears we would be able to tell right away so we.stayed on top of it poor baby wonder how long it's been like this 😪
There are q tips for infants that are larger than regular q tips which I think would be fine. But notice how she's not really going in the ear canal, and the ball of cotton is pretty large compared to q tips. I'd be very cautious using regular q tips in case the dog decides to shake and the q tip ends up hurting the dog. The forceps she uses to hold onto the cotton ball are too large to allow possibly hitting the ear drum.
