Last week my chihuahua mix ate 4 dinner rolls worth of raw bread dough. Thankfully I saw one of these vet shows that covered that topic and knew it was serious and even though I got her to vomit up most of the dough we needed to get her to the vet hospital. She had some dough and the gas the yeast created stuck in her stomach so it was very very distended and the vet used a nasal tube to rinse cool water to try and break up the bubbles, then suctioned the stomach contents out. They did this overnight a few times and placed an IV to correct blood issues and hydrate her. She did get some alcohol effects and I brought her home the next day while she was still recovering. She was spacey and slept it off. $2,300. learning experience. I'm thankful for these vet shows. It really helps you understand the various problems your animals may have happen to them.
An expensive lesson but at least she made it alive thanks to your vigilance and the vets. Whereas they can be trusted better than human beings in other fields, when it comes to food a dog, even an adult one should be seen as a child who can jump/reach into food easier than a child but with the same lack of knowledge of the health consequences. The bread dough has to rise therefore behind the closed door of an oven for example, adding a lock to it if need be, depending on the size and strength of the dog. Or else, the dog remains with you at all times and won't go on its own into the kitchen, but few races are such pots of glue that they need to be with you even when tempting food could be reached elsewhere by leaving your side for a couple of minutes.
I've never heard of pets eating dough being an issue. Excellent job on your part for being so knowledgeable on bread intoxication. The only pet emergency I've dealt with was when my cat ate 15 cooked spears of asparagus. How he ate 15 spears in just a few minutes is still a mystery to me. Other than an episode of explosive diarrhea (at 3am) he was just fine. As a side note that same cat saved my Mom's life when she went into a diabetic coma. Pets really are family aren't they?
I’m so glad that Dr. Kate was quite blunt with Hendricks’ owners. “It’s quite severe” and “This is NOT normal” I certainly don’t think it was intentional on their part, but they are obviously dangerously uninformed about how to care for their dog. I had a Boxer/Mastiff who had recurring fungal ear infections. They are miserable for the poor pup, and I can’t imagine waiting so long to see a vet! When he would start to show signs, it was call the vet right away.
Yeah like they say they waited a month so can you imagine how itchy that dogs ear was? They seem kinda dense in the brain to me...my dog gets them once i awhile and I know exactly what to look for...first time she got one I googled it and yeasty ears popped up and I took her to the vet
He needs to have them plucked by a groomer so there are less nooks and crannies for moisture, bacteria and fungus to hide in. and his ears need to be scrupulously dried after swims.
Yes, this trend of poodle mixes is kind of an epidemic. People love the pretty foofie fur & r completely ignorant of the $$grooming$$ that's an absolute necessity 😧
Exactly! I have a poodle Corsa (my PFP) and they have to to the groomers every couple of weeks. His coat has severe matting which is really unhealthy Also it's not that expensive just to get a quick tidy up but if you leave it to that they sometimes have to have all there fur shaved off and that's more expensive
@@animeaunty there are more trends in dogs (and cats) unfortunately (teacup, brachycephalic,...). Beauty/cuteness before health/behavior/needs 😔. Too often people buy a dog purely by appearance, they don't do enough research. And the consequences can by very wide (bad health, unwanted behavior, too active, too big, ...).
I wonder if Hendrick's owners were given bad information about him when adopting him...they describe his ears as always having been the color they are and that they were already giving him eardrops to help with "bad ears". I don't think they were malicious, just ill informed.
You don’t have be a rocket scientist to know that if your dog (or any other pet for that matter) is obsessively scratching somewhere, YOU DONT WAIT A MONTH TO SAY SOMETHING!! Seriously She said the dog had been banging his head against things! It doesn’t matter if they where ill informed, They should’ve taken the dog to a vet within a week of noticing that behavior. Now i get that vets are expensive and people don’t always have the money take their dog to a vet immediately, But at some point, You have to look at your dogs symptoms and decide if your dogs need to see a Doctor, Is higher than your need for the electricity bill. It’s important to understand the severity of this dogs ear infection. That fungus could spread to the dogs brain and KILL HIM. It is absolutely neglectful to have waited that long and these people should not have any living thing under their care.
Yeah it seriously pissed me off, when my cat was doing that I immediately cleaned her ears then brought her to the vet, and she was treated. It’s so fucking neglectful and then to see the owner “crying”, don’t act like you didn’t expect it. Ears never stink, and if yours do your probably not normal.
@@imalwaysright I had the same thoughts. When she mentioned they decided to bring him in because they started hearing him scratching through the night....that just points to them wanting to stop him from disrupting their own sleep.
@@imalwaysright Sometimes, owners wait to bring their pets to the vet because they either don't have enough money at the time, or they don't understand how serious the problem is. I know it's hard, but, we shouldn't be judgemental. The important thing is that they brought him to the vet in the end.

Wow those doggy parents need to be educated so they understand the severity of ear infections. The fact they new he had problems for over a month and did nothing is shocking and unacceptable
They did do something, they already were putting ear drops in. Their previous vet or dog owners made the mistake. I doubt they picked the ear drops up at their local chemist. They may not have known any better but you can’t assume they were neglectful.
actually quite a few people dont know ear infections are a thing, and having long fur, floppy ears and loves water and mud? thats a perfect breeding ground for bacteria in the ear
Guess vomit doesn’t count as ‘blood and gore.” It is kind of silly though, considering the amount of cyst draining videos that exist on this site. They all show the injections AND the incisions. And of course, everything after…
@@jagoldenpyrenees491 Our dog knows where to vomit and where not to. She goes into a quiet corner and vomits on easy-to-clean floors, never on a cloth or something. One time I had an old plastic dish, ready to throw it out and our dog started vomiting. I held it under her face and encouraged her to vomit into it. She looked at me like I was insane and moved her head away last minute. I had been on the edge of knowing I didn't have to clean up this time, just rinse off and throw out. But she was convinced I had been encouraging her to vomit on property.
My father's name was Edwin and he passed at the age of almost 89 in 2003 and he also had asthma. This cat is so beautiful so glad that Scott was able to bring him back to life.
My name is Sakura and I’m 15, almost 16 born in 2006 and I have very bad asthma. I have 2 cats 1 bird, 4 fish 1 snail and a scorpion. I love cats so much, even though I feel like I’ll pass out from the fur and got ringworms when I first got one of my cats. Idk but I feel unusually connected to cats.
The difference between the first owners, so many signs he wasn't okay. And they waited so long. Then a dog who eats bread, the owner saw her dog wasn't feeling well and had no idea how dangerous it was but brought the dog to the vet straight away!!
Rocket really scared me when he was throwing-up sooo MUCH! Thank goodness he got it all out... and there was a lot. I'm sure that my Codi Jo would really enjoy playing with Rocket & his brother!
@@MustiBear actually dumbass my vet said the ear needs to stay in there it protects the ear she shaved it due to the infection if Dr Kate did not get on them you have no right to you were not ther
My dogs been going crazy with his ears banging his head on floor and she says “it is a bit of a surprise” lol! What else do you want the dog to do stand like a human and say, “look I need to go to the vet my ears are infected. Can you make me an appointment” This poor pup had to deal with double ear infection for a month and she’s surprised. Owners 😱 Me 😑
Kudos to the vet staff for handling the emergency in the dark in such a calm and collected manner. I’m a vet tech and I well know that feeling of forcing all the feelings down so you can handle things and going outside to cry AFTER your patient is stable! I’ve also assisted on a surgery where the power went out and I had to grab my cell phone so I could use the light so the surgeon could close up the patient!
Hendrix's parents were neglectful. The poor guy needs a good grooming and more focused/informed care. His parents took him to the vet ONLY AFTER he kept them awake scratching. So sad.
In my opinion both Hendrix and Edwin should have been taken to the vet a good deal sooner than they were. Hendrix's ears were clearly infected and Edwin clearly had respiratory problems, the very thing his owner is supposed to specialise in. By contrast, Rocket's owner went for better safe than sorry - and my impression was that she was the least well off of the three sets of owners.
People need to do some basic research on animals before they get pets, dogs might not smell amazing but they shouldn't stink to high heaven that's a huge sign that something is wrong
Ye, imo no matter the animal, no matter how common the species or breed is. Research, research, research. It is so important that with out it, you may not be able to properly care for whatever animal it is, plus it dogs learning what the breed was bred for can allow you to better exercise them, learn what disadvantages size breed has that sort of thing. I just think the ear thing is so obvious to anyone who has baked, owned or just researched dogs or is even into a bit of science would know yeast is a bacteria which will breed like nuts in dirt long, haired, floppy dog ears poor baby he had to put up with that for at least a month if not more since a month can only be said based off of want the woman said and she could either be lying or just hadn't noticed sooner. Just my view on it, but research is important no matter the animal; dogs, cats, reptiles, amphibians, birds, even invertebrates like bugs research just makes caring for the animal so much easier and rules out a lot of guessing when it comes to any part of caring for the animal (exercise, feeding, attention etc etc)
If you this kind of dog you have to wash his ears and cut the hair inside his ears frequently. The veterinarian should show them how to do it..by the way I love your new hair
Yes I agree. I think they should've done a bit more research about how to take care of this kind of dog with the long hair. But its also the vets responsibility to inform as well. And I think the breeders should be educating their customers too. These Doodle breeds require a lot of special care and maintenance...more so than people realize. Then they buy the dog cause its cute, and it doesnt shed, they dont take of all its needs and then the dog suffers.
Our dear departed girl Jenny (short haired Jack Russell) used to get the odd ear infections in summer due to having a wading pool as its hot out here where we live (5hrs from Sydney). From the first time it happened the vet showed us how to deal with it, they made sure we had a new prescription every year as there was no stopping her sometimes. She also loved bees and would chase an snap at them until she got stung, that was an expensive trip to the vets each time, but she looked funny with her face blown up.
On the 6th day of owning my new puppy I noticed that his ears were smelly and he kept scratching them, the next day I took him to the vet and after treatment they were back to normal in no time. I felt so horrible that he had to endure any time at all with the discomfort of an ear infection. I cannot believe it took these people that long to even take their dog to the vet when they knew something was wrong 😫
no kidding good lord!! once a couple years ago my dog ran thru rain puddles and about 4 days later he really started to itch and a bad odor like raw meat and stinky gym socks times 100%... my mom due to working in nursing home care she had a ear looker thing and we saw a tiny twig in his ear... we used tweezers to pull it off, used lots of ear cleaner and antibiodic spray on the ears and 2 days later he was fine... holly shoot does a ear infection reek whooeee!!
It wasn’t until I saw a video in this series that I learnt that dough in a dogs stomach could be fatal and it’s alcohol poisoning that would be the cause. That’s crazy!! This series is so informative for pet owners and pet owners to be. Well done!!👏🏻👏🏻🥰💗
The first owners seem literally abusive lmao. "He's staying away from the water" bruh. it's been a week and theyre already back at the beach and he has CLEARLY just been wet. wtf.
That poor dogs ears! I don't want to bash the owners but it is really sad that they couldn't recognize the major signs and waited so long to take him in :(
the cat really scared me for I moment I stopped breathing and went cold omg.... I can't imagine what I would do if it happened to my cats, but they are getting old... this cat really got bad luck poor him
I know this may not matter to most of us but I really loved Kate's beautiful long curly hair. Of course she is still drop dead gorgeous.....and a wonderful vet.
Hello, we really need to thank you BONDI VET, and all Humans working there including the Volunteers. At this time we are unable to live with dogs, Therefore we are having our desire for a dog are living through your VLOGS, including all animals featured in your VLOGS Thanks 💃🙋💃👏🙋🙏🙏🆗
Hendrix’s owners seem caring and thankfully they recognized he had something not normal going on. But they also seem like repeat offenders that I’m sure will be back- not totally them since doodles or any dog with floppy down turned ears are more susceptible to ear probs.
Do they not know that because he’s a doodle he needs his ear hair plucked? There’s massive amounts of hair in his ear canals. Have they never plucked it? Jesus Christ..
That’s so sad. I don’t think people know how devastating asthma is. My mom developed COPD after smoking for over 50 years. She could hardly breathe. I had asthma as a child & know how it feels. I really am sorry to hear about your friend.
I too have asthma as well as other medical issues and physical disabilities. I was 19 too when she died I’d known her from. Playgroup all t way through school we looked similar. I was devastated when I was told of her passing, it was a tough week that week for me emotionally as she died on t Sunday and on t Friday before t following weekend my baby brother was born. He has t same hair colour/skin colour and habits like her. I miss my friend so so much
I love dr Scot Miller i sometimes see him on british tv programmes listening to him answer pet owners questions and i sometimes i can't help cry when i hear about animals being hurt tame or maimed because they are all so innocent i had a Guinea pig when when i younger but never replaced because it turned out me my brother and dad all have asthma i would love to meet dr scott Miller in person to say thanks
Those dog owners should have taken the dog to the vets much earlier, and it should be common sense that a long haired dog like that needs proper grooming and the hairs plucked / trimmed inside its ears.
My mum always says sense is not common and they proved it. All this is basic stuff that comes up when you search 'taking care of a dog' but obviously they didn't see the need to
What the heck ... 1month... they waited 1 month to bring him in...my dog had a small issue, we went to all night vet that cost several hundred instead of waiting nx day. Well at least pup is ok.
