As mentioned Swindle was playing with a leg injury. She was jump setting throughout the season. But if you are going to give Nebraska somewhat of a break because of their youth then it should be the same for Swindle as well. She is also a true freshman.

This game, while not even close, Texas served Nebraska off of the court. Texas served so well. There serves were short, long, and in the seams. Their floats were dripping severely and are not the "normal" level. The previous semifinals match against Wisconsin showed the same serving abilities.

Have you ever played table tennis. The aggressor with the top spin slams will win IF THEY ARE CONSISTENT ENOUGH. They lost 1st game of the season due to bad performance by true freshmen setter and tons of service errors. Texas worked on very aggressive serves all season and they steadily got more consistent. Swindle(6'3" setter) was not only setting much better but getting a decent amount of kills by the end of the season. It all payed off in the playoffs. Texas ceiling was higher than Nebraska and Wisconsin and they exhibited that in the semis and finals. You will probably see Texas there again next year. Skinner, Swindle, and Halter(Libero--did you see her performance against Wisconsin?) are back and we've got great players waiting in the wings to replace those who are leaving. Swindle will be a lot better and probably an all-American and Skinner should vie for POY again.

Texas flew under the radar for the whole season because of early losses. But for those of us intimate with the program, we understood the team could go as far as the true freshmen setter developed. Well, she developed great over the rest of the season. Also, practicing aggression the entire season until they reduced errors left them playing at an extremely high level. As far as the serves, don't underestimate the constant change of depth on the serves. Texas beat 3 #1 seeds in a row. Swindle is 6'3" and dunks it and you are worried about her not jump setting. Guess what you will see Skinner, Halter, and Swindle next year probably in the final 4 again. Nebraska always had some flaws and Wisconsin exposed them and Texas did too.

@minhduong1484
@minhduong1484 5 месяцев назад
I have to disagree. Yes the strategy of Texas serving tough using jump-floats is not ground breaking. But something about how Texas was executing knocked out Wisconsin in addition to Nebraska. Also Nebraska is young and that contributed, but Nebraska like every other volleyball program has the chance to get experienced upperclassmen in the portal every year. Cook said he prefers to get incoming freshmen instead. That is his choice. Texas like other teams is choosing to mix transfers with freshmen. For example, Texas lost 5 seniors and two transfers after their championship. They got Wenaas and Barnes in the portal with a class of freshmen. This year they will lose Bergmark, Phillips, O'Neal, and Barnes to graduation alone. Heinrich is transferring out as she completed her 4 years and wants to use her 5th year someplace where she can go to graduate school.

Shaded schedule is a stretch. We played a lot of really good programs this year like Stanford, Wisconsin, Kentucky, penn, etc. and only lost 1 game before the finals. Everyone is subject to having bad games, and it’s a lot more significant with a young team on a big stage. Let’s not forget that Nebraska is not new to championship games. You don’t get there consistently by avoiding good teams during pre-season and conference play. I’m sure these women are very let down by the way they played bc they know that’s not normal. Why do you think they were so upset. Hopefully this lights a fire in them to win it during their time there. Lexi sure does deserve it.

Not a good example for any young volleyball athlete watching this episode. People need to be more responsible about what and how they say things on such an accessible media source. Furthermore, how many National Championships have YOU won as a young player, I'd seriously like to know. If I threw you on the court to pass the variety and ferocity of these serves, I have no doubt you would fail just as badly. Care to prove me wrong? You should set up THAT challenge for all of us to see on RU-vid. Until you can prove otherwise, speak with aloha when you speak about the youth in our sport. Texas had true freshmen setter who didn't start the season well and had a huge amount to adapt and learn. Asjia was also injured early. They lost a freaky match to LBS 1st game of the season with the worst setter play I've ever seen, and tons of service errors. Then they lost to #2 Stanford and #11 Washington while beating #5 Minnesota and #19 Ohio St in the first 8 games with a true freshmen setter. They lost 1 game the rest of the season. Texas can't help that they were dismissed by the media and dissed with a #2 seed despite their obvious talent and the fact their setter had undergone a huge amount of development. Madison Skinner was the best player in volleyball this year and she proved in the playoffs. But once again she was dissed by the media and robbed of player of the year, because Texas had a couple of early losses with a true freshmen setter. If the media hadn't been overestimated Nebraska and underestimating Texas for the entire 2nd half of the season, the finals wouldn't have been such a shock.

I would disagree. The fact that Texas played poorly in the beginning of the season has nothing to do with the talent they possessed and that talent is what allowed them to win another tittle. Now if Nebraska was the only team that Texas served against like that , I would maybe consider it being Nebraska's poor play, but they did the same thing to Wisconsin who had no answer to their serve. As far as Nebraska being the best in the country, they barely beat Wisconsin in Nebraska and lost 3-0 to Wisconsin in Madison. Wisconsin had 12 blocks against them in the 2nd set at Nebraska. Wisconsin lost their 6'9 middle for two matches and lost both or they would have regained the number one rating. I can say for me as a Wisconsin fan, watching Texas put on a serving clinic was as fun to watch as Wisconsin putting on a blocking clinic in that second set. I don't think Wisconsin or Nebraska played poorly, I just think that Texas had better talent and put it all together at the end of the season when it counts. The match was a clinic in serving I have never seen before. What is great about volleyball is the momentum changes that can occur , so if they played again would the outcome be the same ? I don't know

They were ready in the end, and that’s what champions do. No one had faced that serving prowess until the finals, and both Big 10 teams had excellent serve receives. We see this in the men's game all the time. Can someone closer to the collegiate women's game shed some light on this?
@OzzyTragic

Women’s net is lower so the floats are that much lower?
@burkeharris9699
@burkeharris9699 5 месяцев назад
@@OzzyTragic - Could be, but you could step up a bit to compensate. I see professional female players use their hands to receive fairly often against even tougher floats so it seems like it should be doable for US college women.

No doubt it is, but it takes practice - and these women hadn’t seen serves quite that good all season. Texas got on a confidence roll, and their placement, speed and movement were crazy good those two games. It reminded me of what happens in basketball when a team gets on a roll and shoots over 60%.
@minhduong1484

Players are allowed to hand receive serves but there are still limitations. Jump-floats can drop suddenly like curve balls. If a player is hand receiving a ball at their waist or lower, I would imagine that gets called for a lift every single time. And that is if they could contact the ball, a dropping float is difficult to get under with both arms in dig position much less with two hands.

She couldn’t jump set because of an injury. Also, you’re talking about NEB all being freshman well there are other upperclassmen on the team. Also, Stanford won it with 1 upperclassman and the rest freshman. So that should not be an excuse especially when so many had just written TX off and had NB winning it all. I love NB. My pick was 4) WIS 3) LOU 2) NEB and 1) TEX. If TEX hadn’t made finals, NEB was my team.

This was her 6th year because she red shirted one year and had to ag e surgery another year so she’s only played 4 years total! Nebraska had 4 freshman and 4 juniors which it wouldn’t have made a difference! They won’t win next year either! Cook got cooked! He saw Texas do the exact same thing to an elite Wisconsin team and made no adjustments! Quit making excuses for them getting their asses kicked after talking all that smack and speak on how talented of players Texas has year in & year out! None of this was being said when Nebraska was beating ass all season in that easy conference! We had to replace the 3 most important contacts 1st 2nd & 3rd that’s how we got those early loses! Those loses taught Texas how to win! They was still learning one another due to injuries!

Look guys, your conclusion that this was the worst NCAA vball final ever is spot-on. But everything after that is really lacking. So, Texas clearly targeted Batenhorst and Murray on serve-receive, and it paid-off. But I would NOT discount the QUALITY of the float-serves that O'Neal and others threw at them. You say you've 'been around NCAA women for 5 yrs', well I've PLAYED some of the highest levels of vball since high school, then college, and beyond, and I KNOW how hard it is to pass an exceptional float serve that moves at the last second, especially with pace. Then u mix-in a few slow floats that LOOK like they're hard serves at first... U were NOT on that court to really judge how 'standard' these float serves were. Then, u missed one of the main narratives here, that Harper Murray was a HUGE disappointment for Nebraska, with all the hype, attention, and senior jocks inflating her ego all year long. #1 draft pick, ranked #1 OH coming in, fizzled both offensively and defensively, and missed a TON of serves throughout the season. The truth is, her UNDER-performance is one of the big stories here, and now that Nebraska has secured Landfair from Minnesota (6'5" star OH) and have Kayler Pierce coming in as a freshman (6'2" OH phenom), I predict that Murray will be out of a job next season, and deservedly so, she doesn't know how to terminate balls, period, let alone her passing. And also, don't criticize grils for entering the transfer portal to get play time -- there are some SPECTACULAR and PROMISING players, like Jurevicious, Mendelsson, Melanie Parra (Texas to TCU), who really DESERVE to be a starter and get that VALUABLE college experience in pursuit of a future career, even on the National Teams. In my opinion, Nebraska may very well have won the title if they played Jurevicious instead of Murray. Another narrative u missed is how the Huskers had a FRIGGIN EASY schedule, with the exception of Wisconsin, who swept them near the end of the season. #1 ranked team/record who played crappy teams all season long... yeah, no wonder they've never seen so many tough serves before. Also, stop saying that Cook and Nebraska 'did it' with "ALL FRESHMEN" - no, Beason, Rodriguez, Batenhorst/Krause were JUNIORS, with Allick a Sophomore, all starters. Don't mis-speak or over-exaggerate.

@@marinah9167 Well at least you admitted that your disappointment was probably more related to your favored team loosing than the actual score. Personally, when I am rooting for one team to win, I like it when they completely destroy their opponent. If I were a Nebraska supporter, I would be a lot more concerned that In 2011, the University of Nebraska made history and headlines for being the first institution kicked out of the Association of American Universities by a member vote. Established in 1900, the AAU had counted Nebraska as a member since 1909. This happened right after Nebraska joined the Big 10, and had Nebraska been kicked out before being offered admission to the Big 10, it would never have happened. Seems like Nebraska has a lot more work to do than figuring out how to return serves.

Glad JC said because it opens the door to the time he left Wisconsin. He made the statement that Wisconsin would never have a big time program. then he called up one of the girls. ( I won't mention the name) who was committed to Wis and talked her into coming to Nebraska. Then when Wis won the Big Ten he made the statement that because the teams did not play every other team there was no real Big Ten champ. No one believed me when I posted this in years past. The irony of what happened back then is that the new Wisconsin coach took Wi to the National tittle against non other than Nebraska. Nebraska won and thus started the rival.

Texas will beat Nebraska 9 times out of 10 if they played. Timeouts or not, Texas WAS and IS the superior team. Many a team have won with majority freshmen on them, so drop that tired excuse. It was two matches - same MO. Texas effectively decapitated arguably the two best offenses in the game with extraordinarily phenomenal serving. Without that level of serving, Texas had already faced match point against Tennessee (4 aces/10 errors). In-system, it’s not clear the Texas offense (or defense) is any better than Wisconsin or Nebraska - if as good, Skinner notwithstanding. But what separates true champions is the ability to raise their game to new heights, and that’s exactly what the Longhorns did in those two matches with their serving. This was one of the most impressive examples I’ve seen in a long time. They absolutely earned and deserved this title.
