There are few things more ironic than an anti-capitalist show about poverty exploitation being turned real then exploiting and injuring the people in it
The show hasn't injured anyone. The people directing the show are responsible for its pernicious effects. I get the feeling that you have a problem with the 2nd amendment as well and are easily triggered by the "manosphere".
@@DavidOnTheeYT You don't have to* be so combative, not "gotta". How was my comment combative? I just made simple observations. Don't talk about combat unless you've been in my shoes and had to battle your way back from behind enemy lines in an Afghan desert town after your black hawk went down.
Fun fact: Red light green light went on for multiple hours in real life. They had to wait 30-45mins between green lights. That’s because the camera crew had to film some shots. Also all the participants really slept in the bunkbeds and everyone had only one tracksuit for the entire duration of the show being filmed. They couldnt leave the building for entertainment or fresh air. They had to entertain themselves for hours and hours while no game was played. And then there‘s the issue that noone except the winner got paid
I also had to find out that this existed from my dad, but the difference is, my dad watched it thinking this was season two and didn't realize it was a reality show with real people, so he was like "The story and the acting got really bad, and instead of killing people they shot them with paintball guns, it was really lame."
@@kelseylandon1224 That is an extremely good point! I think either maybe he thought season 2 was being done by a completely different team in ameria, or who knows maybe he DID know it was a reality show and wanted real stakes XD
The one part that really grinds my gears was in ep2 when 198 picked up the phone and won a treat (hamburger and fries), then everybody swooped in like turkey vultures and stole his food. Netflix never fails to find the most despicable people for their game shows.
The red light green light shoot actually took like 11 hours, people said online that it was green for like 10 seconds then was red for about 45 minutes, so she was popping a squat for like half hour, and that's why people were diving on the floor because it's easier to lay down for 45 minutes rather than stop on the spot
apparently the red light green light game actually lasted 17 HOURS and the contestants were holding poses for like 20-40 minutes between each time the clock was stopped
The whole point of Squid game is showing how abhorrent and dangerous exploiting the working class for entertainment is… so they decided to dangerously exploit the working class for entertainment
@@billy-bg9rx Maybe hunger games as well? got to cannibalize dead contestants? 'How interesting it would be to see the trauma in their face as they eat raw human leg!' - netflix
My heart broke when Spencer (299) got physically ill from the anxiety of choosing the umbrella door. I have generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and I know that those anxiety attacks mess you up - and the fact that he had his teammates fates in his hands, that would have been crazy stressful😭 Like imagine going home after that and thinking that your actions cost so many people a chance to win - a chance to change their lives. Insane.
I physically recoiled during the dalgona game and this guy started sobbing cuz he almost didnt complete the game He was physically shaking and sobbing trying to show the gameshow people his completed cut out. I felt repulsed when the guy who answered the phone and got a burger, then everyone basically jumped his ass and stole his burger, tearing apart his platter. I also got 2nd hand embarrassment watching each person pretend like they were actually shot.
It's almost, *almost*, as if the original show had some kind of layered message hidden inside about the lengths people will go through for a life-changing smack of money. And also something about the people watching them for amusement, with some slight meta worked in for good measure. Nah, must just be me. It's just the funny red light green light show with the funny mask guys with guns.
Squid game is a show about anti-communism and how the elite use the poor as toys. If you think China and Russia are so great maybe you should move to one.
@ujlt7198 no he's saying all these games are exploring people. Its one of the reasons why thevgive them glasses(other shows) do you can't tell how they cut the scenes. Since they sometimes dehydrate, starve and liquor these people up to get the rarest emotional actions.
As someone who was actually there as a contestant for 9 days, I can say nothing was scripted or trumped up. Bryton (432) was genuinely that way, the whole way through. The MIVs (interviews) were definitely baited or targeted questions but there was honestly NOTHING that was pre-planned or staged. I WILL say the final cut really edited out a LOT of context. I've been filling in gaps for people all week. The production were just extremely opportunistic at framing things well. For example, Dani and Kyle (the people who eliminated 200) were pulled out randomly to do chores, we had NO clue they were the ones selected to take that test. The next day is when they revealed the elimination, so it genuinely caught us off guard.
Oh shit, you're for real! Lieutenant and all, so cool! Were the people on it really the 'big players' or did production frame them that way? I've heard a lot of things generally get changed in the editing room, so I'm just curious about that aspect of things...
We know you all love the hit show "Please for the love of God don't make the baby squisher" so here tonight we're proud to announce that we have made the baby squisher!
"Lawsuits have been made against 'Baby Squisher Gameshow' which was inspired by the setting from 'Please for the love of God don't make the baby squisher' due to the alleged trauma caused to contestants when they witnessed babies being squished."
You should’ve mentioned the girl that gave up on the green light, red light because she couldn’t hearing the popping sounds of people getting eliminated. So she basically lays down and starts crying in a bawl
I thought she stopped because she, for whatever reason, decided to stop in a squatting position. If she were squatting for 30 some minutes, that would be hard to keep up.
I usually completely see eye to eye with Charlie on almost everything, this I don't understand. He's acting like there is complete characters made up and everyone is completely over the top. That's not what I got from it at all maybe episode 1 & 2 people were trying to stand out. There was twists in the show that made it very interesting, like pitting friends against each other without knowing. The only person who was like a "character" was that lightskin cocky dude with the fade.
I don't think it's fake I just think Netflix has purposefully hand picked each and everyone as mentally ill misfits from each other to create as much drama as possible. Ego is a big thing as well trust me people can act and say really dumb things if they think they're better than everyone else, it's ironic because anyone playing for the money isn't going to win the money. They need a different mindset to win. My money is on 18 (quiet, reserved, smart and watching in the background) The casting isn't fake but the selection process certainly wasn’t random at all. To add onto this they purposefully created challenges to further stir the drama by eliminating alliance members to create more drama. I think it's in the terms to go out quietly if eliminated as you can see people quietly balling their eyes out hunched over. So there was real stakes and loss on the line for certain. It's not Squid game it's a psychological mind fxck.
Yea I think Charlie doesn't understand how reality tv editing works to make such narratives. All the people are purposefully chosen as big personalities and then they deliberately cut and pick out the most wild lines and scenes to emphasise and concentrate those personalities to make them over the top. Then they cut and paste voice lines, canned reactions to exaggerate each scene.
they literally wrote in plot points from squid game into the inter-personal contestant drama. a lot of coincidences for a non-scripted show. it honestly watches like a high school musical version of a theatre show.
The annoying thing was that me and my family though that it was finally the sequel to the original squid game show, and we tried our best not to watch any trailer or spoilers. Then it finally it came out and boy we were dissapointed.
@@pxsoul888 But it doesn't change the fact that it was a horrible reality show, if it was any good then we wouldn't complain of it not being the sequel.
Besides the inhumane treatment, the way this interpretation works is terrible. All the people they showed (the old man and mullet man) were my favorite. They were doing fine in the game until they give a literal random the opportunity to eliminate 3 people, which was both of them. They could not do anything about it.. so unfair..
They got eliminated because the producers called out the old man to be taken back stage and the dude with the mullet went with him, at that moment their fate was sealed because now everybody became aware of their presence and when they both came back the most logical thing to assume is that they gained some type of advantage, which they technically did (candy bar), so in short the producers of the show screwed the old man and the dude with the mullet.
Another thing, a contestant talked about this after it released and it turns out they were out there playing red light green light for over 8 hours wearing nothing but the tracksuit. The girl squatting was there for like 40 minutes according to the contestant.
@jenilee-ef1zithe difference is most shows don't require you to squat or stand in an awkward position for an hour, over 8 hours. They let you stretch in between takes if positioning isn't a big deal - and if it is, they just mark your position with tape so you can stretch and then return to the same spot. No ethical or normal directors would expect this of their actors.
They knew it was the cookie game. THey were just brought into the wrong room and then instead of doing what the TV show did and let them each pick their own cookie they were all dependent on whoever was in front of the line. They also assumed that the 3rd game was going to be Tug-O-War but it turned out to be Battleship. What's really dumb is they should've known marbles was coming up yet they all decided to pair with their best friends when told to pair up.
@@leeshapon It's been nice seeing them subvert expectations with the cookie game being a uniamous decision. Tug turning into battleship. I really wish the contestants were thinking while being told to 'pair' up. I would've been so suspicious of that.
"'Sympathy is a weakness', and it's right before Red Light, Green Light", is the funniest juxtaposition of things ever, probably even moreso if you dont know the context behind Squid Games. Like that's something you'd hear on Loiter Squad.
I remember when the casting call went out I thought “Why not?” But decided against it after realizing I was planning on joining the service instead, I have never been more glad about my past choices
@@justinwescott8125 I’ve been in for about 8 months now, made great friends, got a steady job, in great shape, and over all improved as a person. Yeah, I’d say it’s better than this
One of my friends auditioned to be on the show and got accepted to be a participant. But she turned down the opportunity after finding out what the living conditions would be like during her final interview with one of the shows producers. She was smart enough to ask about living environment and accommodation during her virtual interview. She told me they told her that they have to stay in the building during the entirety of the shoot, that they couldn’t leave even during NON-filming hours, that the showers were co-ed & communal (but had individual stalls-at the very least), that they’d only be wearing the track suits and no other change of clothing even on NON-filming days, that their belongings would be confiscated (no phones, no books, no music, etc), and that they couldn’t order food from outside and they were to eat only what the show provided them with to make the experience feel more “real” and “immersive”. She said when she heard all that she was like hell no and respectfully bowed out, lol. Good luck to the 1 person who ends up being the sole victor though.
@@justinwescott8125I’m pretty sure they were being sarcastic and saying that the show’s crude living conditions, behind the scene, is like signing up for the military….they didn’t actually join the military.
Idk it just doesn't hit the same when the players know that their lives aren't on the line. Like the scene with the woman who quit bc she got tired of squatting in red light, green light really killed it for me.
That one was crazy because d so he was only like halfway squatting and there’s no way they had a red light for over a minute because the timer doesn’t stop running. So she was dumb enough to squat for no reason and weak enough either mentally or physically to not hold a half-squat for max like 45 seconds
Saw a girl on tiktok who was supposedly contestant 021 (emmashavingfun). She said it took like 6 hours to film red light green light and some of the pauses were having to hold their poses for 40 minutes at time, so that’s probably why they couldn’t stay in the squat. And that’s also why a lot of them were flopping or trying to get into a seated position…
@@callmecharlie4250 that does explain why she had to quit but that’s stupid as hell on the show creators’ side to pretend it all happened within 10 minutes and highlight her giving up because it definitely took away from the quality of the show
@@shanedancer3895that’s a good point. It probably would’ve been more interesting if they revealed that each pause was 10~40min to show how intense it was. Maybe a few shots of people shaking in place from an uncomfortable position, etc. Making it seem like it’s a few seconds or a few minutes tops downplays the “intense gameshow” vibe they’re trying to go for.
Tbh i actually laughed at the dramatic parts because it was horribly bad and Dramatically funny that they were trying so hard to make it a reality type show 💀
when i saw it on netflix i thought it was one of those "reality" tv shows, but it was set up like a black mirror episode. The interviews were so over the top I thought for sure it was fake. but then i saw people not actually dying and i was like oh, it's just a shitty reality tv show for real
By the way guys, this is NOT season 2 of the show. This is just a little reality show they decided to make. The actually second season is coming out next year, I believe :)
@UnitTrace the original squid game creators are from south korea, this was a british show,,, so hopefully people aren’t gonna drop the original show. i can’t wait for season 2 (bc of a single actress lmao)
a woman who i used to work with who was on this and was one of the original chunk of people who quit the show due to how poorly it was ran as well as the conditions they were kept in whilst there
My favorite part was how they started the interviews by adding tidbits about the contestant with their number, but gave up completely on it like 15 minutes later.
I'm fairly sure they did that with those they knew were gonna be there for the rest of the episode, and cut those who got Eliminated. For the most part
And for those of us that have seen the newer episodes that have been released in the next couple of days I find it absolutely ridiculous that it wasn’t mentioned about that one lady who decided to screw it up for literally everybody and make tray hop like three spaces forward when she was being stupid and didn’t realize what was going on when literally everybody else even myself understood what was going on.
Just saw the trailer today and I am glad that they decided to show how "dramatic" it's all supposed to be. Was already a hard pass, but thanks for letting me know it's so much worse than I even imagined.
Did they learn nothing from the original Squid Game? Edit: Why do I always get the weirdest replies to the most basic comments? (even outside of spambots)
The red light green light was filmed in an airplane hanger and took 14 hours to film so people were freezeing. My cousin was 432 so it was very entertaining to me to watch him make an ass of himself
The girl that was squatting during Red Light Green Light was actually holding that for 25-30 minutes. You have to stay still for the ENTIRE TIME they are filming. Which changes the entire dynamic to the game. Someone who was actually on the show was talking about it on TikTok if you need the reference to confirm it’s true. They were filming for like 12 hours even tho the game is only 5 minutes. I personally would not want to stay still for time extra “filming” that seems so odd to me. Weird concept, but apparently everything is real…just obviously the people add a little spice in their personality for TV.
As someone who used to watch a lot of reality tv, this sounds like every bad reality tv show ever now. Every bad stereotype of reality tv show. The whole I hAVe sO maNY STRugglES and shit
i felt the like the reactions were actually genuine when you take into account that these guys are fighting for 4.5 million dollars lol i’d be in a way heightened state of mind trying to get this type of money too
@@NoHoesRueI like this show too. It's cheesy on some parts but this was incredibly entertaining. Some people just hate Netflix for the crap shows they make sometimes but this show is a diamond
It’s like a show made years ago, it put contestants in a “apocalypse” scenario (but it was obviously the backlot of either Warner or some other studio lot), and they had to find their food, they got a shelter but no resources so they had to make cisterns for rain water, a handmade water filter system, they even rigged a bunch of car batteries with a solar panel to get power. The really stupid part was that ever so often crew members would go by as just “survivors” and either trade with them or try to invade the shelter. The show was beyond stupid because they even had to act as if a real apocalypse had happened and they where among the last humans remaining.
The worst was that one guy who has to eliminate like 3 people and he chooses to eliminate this innocent random girl who hadn’t had any screen time or background story that I can recall, and his reason for eliminating her was “she is the only person here who I haven’t talked to” and he says it as if she’s some monster or threat because he hasn’t talked to her.😂😂 maybe you could have tried, you know, TALKING TO HER THEN. 😂
Love that lesbian girl who said she's married to a strong independent woman, despises the alliance of guys JUST because it's all guys and no girls. and she gets a jack in the box power to eliminate 3 people, she eliminates 2 of them from that alliance and is bawling her eyes out the entire time and then after she's done all the black girls are like "good job" "boss bitch move"... lol!!!!
The funniest part is that one of the directors said that the original Squid Games show's anti-capitalism message was only a "small part" of the slow. Like..... no?!?!
Its literally the whole point. Like. Even the fact they're playing children's games is metaphor for the infantilizing of the working class. The games aren't fun to watch for their own sake, its the suffering that is produced that is the product.
The programme was filmed at Cardington Sheds. It's were the Ill fated R101 airship was built. Imagine sleeping in a 149,000 square foot metal tin during a UK cold spell with limited heating. That might possibly be the cause of the hypothermia.
Player 107 uploaded a video on his experience a day ago. In the red light, green light game, the contestants had to stand in their position for 20-30 minutes during the red light. It was edited to look like a few seconds. That is why that girl that was squatting gave up.
Maybe it's just because I watch a lot of competitive reality TV, like Survivor, Big Brother, and so on, but I really enjoyed these first 5 episodes, I thought the production was not that bad, and the twists that they designed so that people wouldn't have an advantage if they watched the show first, like having the third game be Battleship instead of Tug of War because everyone thought it would be better to have a physical team advantage, and how for the honeycomb game they made people argue over which shape to get since people already knew what shape was best.
There is alot of bad media that I personally really sometimes if things are done with alot of passion that are clearly bad I tend to atleast like or find it to be watchable however many "unwatchable" or rather mid movies/tv shows I also enjoy alot however there are things that are completely unwatchable this isn't one buy I think that like how Charlie pointed out it could have been a mindless popcorn show just to pass the time and Netflix would have been ok but two big factors here are Netflix is known for being really bad alot of the time so being able to pick this apart more than say a normal game show is absolutely deplorable and many chronically online/on the TV are usually very easily taken in by anything that isn't so bad there's no way to avoid it, I feel this show sits in the category of being offensive because it isn't just mediocre its just very mid again but in a way that itslef is subject to obvious glaring issues rather than easy to ignore issues other shows have
IDK, when someone has a net worth of probably over $1B, I am not sure they are simply a RU-vidr anymore; they can afford a budget on almost any practical scale. But I get ya; the fact that MrBeast made something presumably better (I haven't watched it) says a lot about Netflix.
bro wdym Mrbeast did better this is just being bias and being fanboy of mrbeast. Objectively, netflix did better and they also involved the director of squid game on this. IDK what's your mind but most of you that when someone knows the game, you say scripted. But when someone acting bad, you say worse. WTF it contradicts. You're just hating netflix because of their past issues.
I just saw it yesterday. I got excited thinking “finally new season of Squid Game” only to take a closer look and realized it was some squid game based game show. That screwed my day up tbh.
I think charlie was a bit harsh. It feels slow and fake at times, but I wouldn't say it's on the level Charlie makes it out to be. I think a lot of the reactions are eccentric just because they all want their time in the spotlight, but things like 200 getting hugs because he was eliminated does track, like he's established as being very sociable (far more than 45 seconds before his elimination, like i expected the elimination to come way sooner because of how Charlie worded it) so it makes sense he's made some friends, and it was only really one person that hugged him, the rest were pretty generic 'oh no that sucks' reactions. The red light green light did feel off, but to me it was the fact they showed shots of everyone running while the song was over, moreso than what Charlie said about it not being chronological with deaths and such. Anyway I'll be watching the rest, if it stays this slow paced when there's even less contestants to focus on it might get pretty damn boring but it's only 5 episodes right now, it's only like watching 2 or 3 movies.
i almost always agree with charlie when it comes to his opinions on shows bc we have similar taste but watching this squid game show has become my guilty pleasure and im interested to see who comes out as the winner
Well, this crap was made by Studio Lambert, which is the company behind many modern “reality” shows. Their programs frequently follow similar formats of forced drama, so I’m not surprised it came out as awful as it did.
My favorite moment in this show had to be the guy trying his best not to vomit, for like 8 minutes during a competition. It perfectly sums up this entire show.
Gotta disagree with you man, it's quite an interesting game show. It has it flaws for sure, if 'red light green light' was actually HOURS instead of the 10 minutes like the clock said well then that's just madness, the bull**** of having the power to eliminate players gotta go (keep advantage powers, maybe disvantage powers, MAYBE some sabtoges...fine just no outright eliminations), the "drama" parts I don't care for, sure show them in the bunk room but I don't want half the episode (which so far a couple were) of them in the bunk room not doing any challenges/tests. Thus, I hope for Season 2, it's actually a great idea for a game show, it just needs to improve/fix the flaws. I'm all for it!
This is the one time I actually disagree with him. I’m loving this show. If you go in with the mindset of going into an episode of survivor, big brother or Hell’s Kitchen, you’re going to enjoy it.
Because it takes the entire meaning of the original show and makes it reality: the rich and comfortable preying on the poor and vulnerable and pitting them against each other in unfair and sociopathic competitions. It’s just corporate greed raking off another trend.
@@XxDevin2xXthe most enjoyable part of Squid Games that reeled in its MASSIVE audience was the concept of death games and the games itself. The average viewer doesn’t gaf about the deeper themes of “rich using the poor for entertainment”, but instead the characters, plot twists and the games itself. These three things itself is what made the OG show actually good. And that’s exactly what the show focused on. The characters/contestants, plot twists and game itself.
im there with you. I think a lot of the criticism is coming from people comparing it to a actual drama tv series, instead of a fun game show. People are saying its fake and staged dont understand that their are strict laws against rigging game shows. So yea the players are probably given some lines to say in confessionals, but the games, winners, people eliminated is not rigged.
I had a really good friend who was “in the show” he was in the red light green light portion and didn’t move on. Basically here’s what happened on the show. It was VERY scripted. All the people that won at least the red light green light challenge were pre-selected. My friend actually finished before several of the people that moved on but was told by the producer that he didn’t win because one of the people that was selected had to finish first. Obviously all reality tv is scripted but the main issue that my friend and a lot of other people had was that this was a open casting call and it was made to seem like anyone actually had a chance even though in reality people were led on to believe that if they took time from their life/job they had a chance to actually make it on tv and win prizes.
It was a legitimate competition and they didn't script the winners, it's just heavily produced and edited (like all "reality" shows). They had to film interviews with every single cast member and get them to record a bunch of reactions/scenarios just in a case, as they genuinely didn't know who would go through/be eliminated or who would have a moment that would make it into the edit. Why on earth would they only inform your "friend" that actually they were never allowed to win after they've crossed the line? That would get production in a LOT of trouble for misleading the cast. Either they'd know they couldn't win before they signed up (in which case why bother pretending it's a real gameshow, just make SG Season 2), or it was a legitimate gameshow.
I was so incredibly confused through out the entire first episode. I never knew this came out either, didn't know what it was. At first I thought that it was like a American vandal kind of fake documentary. But then I realized it was for real and it got so much worse. Still don't get it
What wouldve made the dalgona game better is if they all just equally lined up behind a door and then slowly reveal what shape they have to cut, instead of showing the shapes right off the bat and then people fighting over which shape each team cuts. Especially with the guy who got forced to get the umbrella, that felt so hard to watch. Also, I think maybe they were trying too hard with red light green light, trying to eliminate as much people as possible in the first game just like the actual squid game show, but rheir conditions were much worse
The trailer started automatically playing when I opened netflix on my computer earlier today and holy shit did even the trailer look embarrassingly bad. The people in it were insuffurable, and that was after only 1 minute! Imagine watching a whole episode.
I remember hearing MrBeast talk about how he stopped casting people who really need the money for his "last to ___ gets ___" challenges. Casting people living out of their car to compete for a free house is more sad than entertaining, which is why he mostly gets his rich RU-vid friends to do them now. They don't take it too seriously, and can focus on making an entertaining video instead. I think Netflix should have taken a lesson from that because their game design was legitimately good. Spoiler ahead: The whole "you have to come to a unanimous decision on the dalgona shapes or you're eliminated" was really fun to watch because it brought out the worst in people and served them instant karma, UNTIL they made a sucker out of that guy who was puking from anxiety on INTERNATIONAL TV and then immediately eliminating him. That was outright cruel and made me sick to my stomach.
The dramatisation of the competition really feels ingenuine. If red light green light took 6 hours, convey that. dont make it seem like it took 5 minutes. I read from an article that there were 'mini dorm games' - the winner of which gets to choose advantage or elimination. But to be eliminated like that feels oretty unfair
Watched all five episodes with a few of my friends and it was incredibly fun to rip on it. Definitely would never watch this alone, but highly recommend it if you have funny friends
I SAW that they took the premise from Squid Game and turned it into an ACTUAL competition show (except, you know, MINUS THE ACTUAL SLAUGHTER OF CONTESTANTS). I just SHOOK MY HEAD while saying, “Netflix, WTF ARE YOU DOING?!”
It's so scripted and I'm convinced many of the main people are literal actors. They'll probably rig it for an actor to win and they don't even get the money. It feels as fake as that gameshow "Bullshit" where they were giving away million dollar prizes constantly like it was nothing and everyone seemed like an actor.
I find it funny how everyone is blaming the studio for making this when the original creators literally sold them the license. Not even the original creators believe in his show's message of corporate greed.
@ashleyjohansson230 you know there's a difference between someone making a small profit off of their own work. And companies/the rich making money off of the poorer population's labour, right?
