In Japan, in order to use the bullet trains, you have to buy a ticket, especially if he got reserved seats. With that ticket, you have to run it via and automatic ticket reader. There are security cameras everywhere at train stations and there are multiple officers around the ticket gate. I can't imagine this man had the actual guts to evade all of this.
You can buy a ticket that allows you to enter the bullet train tracks for a short time (did use it once to say goodbye to a friend, but I guess it's also for train spotters, etc.), iirc it was around 1000¥. I'd bet that he just bought one of those tickets to avoid trouble before sneaking on the train.
@@BlackDragonNico That's assuming if we think he's smart enough to know that...but yes, there are two different tickets you need to have (receipt + actual train ticket). It's highly confusing for me when I ride the trains here so I have a feeling he just bought the cheapest tickets and then refused to pay the difference when he arrived.
I suspect they bought legit tickets, and then just refused to show them, until train security gave them enough footage to make it look like they were actually in trouble. Then, off-camera, "Ohhh, you wanted to see this?" [produces ticket] "I'm sorry, I completely misunderstood." Then, ducks around the corner and monologues about being on the run from the police.

Sure, you probably won’t make friends or anything, but it’s far from hostile to tourism as of now. As long as you don’t act flagrantly foreign and don’t disrespect anything, you usually won’t run into any problems, even in the smaller towns in the countryside. The only way I can see it being ‘hostile’ is if you consider sometimes being ignored for being clearly foreign as unfriendly, but IMO that’s far less hostile then the supposedly ‘great for tourists!’ places full of con artists and pickpockets; like most of Europe.
i recently took a trip to japan, and when entering and exiting local train stations, there are open gates with scanners(?) for you to tap your train card. there was always that little thought of, "how come no one just walks through without paying?" since they're open, and despite there surely being security and cameras, it's likely just the courtesy in the culture to respect these processes... what has to have happened to your brain for you to be so incredibly disrespectful in someone else's home?

He ended up making a lot of Japanese friends because he was actually respectful and interested in their culture.
