That spy pen's honestly OK considering what you'll probably be using it for. Not expecting some hollywood level quality just enough clarity to film and record and it seems to do that just fine.
I know right, you're not trying to make a RU-vid video on it you're trying to get evidence of someone saying/ doing something, you know that they wouldn't if they know they are being recorded.
I’d almost forgotten about the blackening toaster! It reminded me of the hand mixer my good friend and her roommate got their first year at Johns Hopkins. One afternoon, while E was taking a bubble bath, her roomie decided to use the hand mixer she’d gotten for opening her bank account to make a chocolate cake. (Remember the days of getting small appliances when you opened accounts at new banks?). Anyway, E heard a yell from the kitchen. Roomie came into the bathroom covered in cake batter from the waist up. She’d turned the mixer on to 2. After seeing that the counters, cupboards, walls and ceiling were splattered with chocolate cake batter, they decided that the mixer’s settings started at “whip” and went all the way to “atomize”.
Think the air whirl crisper should have been toward the top considering the price and the fact that it will likely ruin the pan you use it with. All the products here were well deserving of the title though.
I completely agree with you about the laser scissors. I sew, so I decided that this would be a good tool to have for cutting my fabric. It is about as sharp on fabric as a garden shears. The laser beam definitely does nothing but shine a red light as you continue to cut crooked. My one has been demoted to paper. A waste of money.
Gotta just say that the soup pourer probably wouldn’t have worked anyway but it certainly was NEVER going to work on your potbellied pots, which meant the pot side pulled away from the inside pourer surface. LOL
I am still using my toaster that I received as a wedding gift in 1979 and it works perfectly with the midrange settings nicely toasted. It only holds 2 normal sized slices of bread but that’s all we use anyway.
The plastic wrap dispenser was supposed to be flipped the other way. Instead of the roll coming out from the top and having contact around most of the sides, it’s supposed t come out from the bottom because the part your pulling won’t have as much contact to stick.
Simple idea instead of the egg scrambler place the egg in the middle of a clean sock and hold the sock on both ends and spin the sock as if you were going to try to skip rope. This would be just as effective without the risk of breakage.
Oh my gosh! I am killing myself watching this! Ridiculous products, and you are completely hilarious! That absurd egg scrambler and the plastic wrap dispenser? Lol!
I think a video camera clipped to my glasses would be great for making close-up video of arts and crafts. I wonder if that's what most how-to craft video you tube makers use.
I have a cast aluminum slice holder (Item #4). I picked it up at a garage sale. It's worked peachy for me for nearly a decade. I use it about 3X/mo. It comes in particularly handy to pluck canned goods from their jar and then slice them directly onto the serving plate. It keeps the need for cleanup to a minimum, especially with pickled beets.
Good list, but i think #2 deserves better. Its a bad product, but there were much worse that were not even on this list. Its timer scale was wrong, and instructions were probably wrong(maybe geared toward 4 toast use, not 2). But the timer is a sliding one, you can set it to any time(like 0.5), and it worked as toaster so fiddling with settings would make it work(something you did with many other products). I understand why its here, these errors can even make it a fire hazard, but i still think that this is the kind of thing that many consumers just deal with without issue. They would not just set it and look at it while it burned the toast, they would decrease the freakin' setting :). Like you did with many other products.
I have used some jugs where if I pour slowly, the liquid would run down the side, so I need to pour much quicker, which is what I suspect the Pour Spout’s problem is.
AutoFan would work better if you had the opposing window open a crack. Then you would get a cross breeze. Like in a van with a maxair fan or Fantastic Fan.
I find all these yellow egg products hilarious cause many years ago the youtuber nighthawkinlight showed how to make these with a shirt sleeve and string, and it works just the same
You probably realize that every one of these products was made by a genius with nobody around to ask Why, How, or does anyone we know realize what you are doing.
LOL... are you supposed to HARD BOIL a scrambled egg?... would you scramble it in the shell and then break it into a frying pan and make "scrambled" eggs?🤔😉
Slicer not only do not work as intended but it's also redundant. Use that money to buy a good knife or a good sharpener. If you have a good knife you can cut tomato into slices faster with no problems. If you have a bad or dull knife then you would have to use more strength and it will bend the gadget so you won't be able to cut all the away or you just break it. Absolutely over engineered and still not working as intended, useless gadget.
My wife used a spy pen and won a five million dollar class action suit. Because you couldn't figure a way around the limitations of the spy pen design doesn't mean the rest of us can't lol I think she paid less than $20 for it.. Quite the nice return.. (Canada - One party consent)
You have to let the knife do the work re the tomatoes. You don't push it straight down like you tried to. You push the knife forward and let it cut/slice the tomato. Seemed to me you were trying to make the product fail.
Just fyi, the "soup pourer" is actually a "paint pourer" for which that would fit on a standard 1 gallon paint can quite well and the viscosity of the paint prevents it from leaching under the item. It eliminates the build-up of flow-back paint along the rim which inhibits putting the lid back on. And hence the rubber construction which makes for easy clean-up once any paint left on it is dry. Actually, this is a brilliantly designed item.
@@dittohead7044like many As Sold On TV items, this is likely an attempt to expand the use of a niche item. In this case a paint pourer. A lot of ASOTV items are specialised tools trying to expand into new areas of just disability and accessibility items sold to a general public.
That spy pen makes me think of those “X-ray glasses’ they always had ads for in the back of magazines back in the 60s and 70s. 😅 The soup pouring device is a good idea but executed poorly. Could it be repurposed as a doorstop? The laser on the laser scissors would probably attract your cat.
@@Maninawig, they were crap. I never got them, but I had friends that did. They definitely were a total waste of the allowance money saved up for sometimes weeks to get them.
I use my spy pen daily. I'm a Realtor and have had two occasions where I feared for my life during a showing. It's a decent recorder to show faces. It doesn't replace my every day carry but it may help if something happens.
Wow, sorry to hear about how dangerous being a realtor can be! So you film people so the police can i.d. your killer? Wouldn't the perpetrator see the camera on your glasses and take it?
Your assessment of the soup pourer may be accurate but I did notice the odd shaped concaved sides of your pots when testing it. Never saw cookware of the design.
I inherited my husband's Aunts toaster. Bought in 52. She had 4 children and 4 adults using it. I had 2 children and two adults. Finally hit the dust about 15 years ago. Unfixable. My sister has my mother's toaster. Same version. Bought in 57. Still works, but never used quite as much. My mother had 3 children and 2 adults. My sister had 2 adults and 1 child.
@@MattMcConaha Electric and electronic have different definitions. The auto functions were all mechanical. Of course the heating elements were electric.
The Air Whirl Crisper was the supreme joke. I was glad to see your real life demo back in the day. TY for that sir. That product should be shot into space to another planet. 🤣 MAYBE they can improve this disaster.
for the pour spout, I know you got a few comments pointing this out in your original video, but it seems to have worked so poorly because your pots were curved at the sides. and even though you gave it a "Second chance", you still used a curved pot so it doesnt really seem like a completely fair test IMO.
Ahh another year of watching reviews for stuff I'll probably never get, James is just so enjoyable to watch idk. Looking forward to what 2023 might bring 🥂 Also, I love how both the best and worst of 2022 videos are 22:22 long
19:53 - I think you might have the bottle opener upside down. Though, it'd probably hurt regardless, as a thin sheet of metal would never give you a comfy grip.
as with that toaster, i think there are a lot of fake amazon reviews that rate items higher than they deserve. i've had things too that were an amazon's choice, or #1 rated and they were no good at all. now when i make a big purchase i'll check other sites reviews too and not just trust amazons
The corporations make cheap, easy to manufacture garbage that they know a few hundred thousand people will buy, and that’s all they care about. The C-suites aren’t affected by the pollution their corporation produces.
I’ve been a fan for a long time despite having zero interest in as seen products. You just make such relaxing and good content. Here’s to another year🎉
I see a lot of other people also noticed the odd-shaped pan you used for the soup pourer. For the slicer/holder... it might work better if you used an appropriate sized knife! Like an actual tomato slicing knife (see Rada) or even a steak knife. Also, if you angle your knife as you get to the bottom and let the tip of the blade cut the bottom as you pull it through you would maybe have better luck. I totally enjoy your videos! Sometimes you just verify my better judgement when I consider certain products. Please, keep up the good work!
i have been binge watching you for a couple days now some of your older videos i haven't seen and even some that i have seen i watched them again because i enjoy this type of video and they way you do it
Thanks James, great video as always. I want to mention that I really like that you don't play music while doing your reviews. Much appreciated........................
Thank you for your reviews. I consistently return to your channel because it's just great entertainment and really relaxing to watch. I'd love to see another ice-cream/dessert maker review in the future.
With the soup spout pot thing, the problem isn't with the device, it's with your pots. They're barrel-shaped (bowed walls), whereas the spout is meant for straight-walled pots.
This is so depressing to watch, love the video, but I can definitely see people that made them reach that sweet spot of "Ok, this doesn't work but it looks like it could and it is cheap enough that people will buy it just to try it out, let's make a batch of them!"
I think the slicer holder deserves a second chance with a better cutting technique. I didn't watch the original but it looked like you were just pressing down with the top half of the knife in the clips you used. This probably won't work unless your knife is extremely sharp, so I could see why you'd end up with messed up tomatoes. If there's a next time, try cutting by starting at the base of the knife, then pulling it towards you while applying downwards pressure, you might get cleaner cuts that way.
The actual ORIGINAL product was for egg slicing. Someone just reboxed a vintage product without any redesign at all. Works great with eggs. Regarding the knife, you’re spot on. Don’t bother slicing tomatoes unless you have a sharp knife.
We had a cuisinart toaster very similar to that 20 years ago. It was horribly inconsistent, it burned stuff SO badly, or it wouldn’t toast properly at all. I can’t believe they’re still making them!!
Hmmm.... the soup pourer thingy could actually be useful: If you want to separate excess water from soup if the soup is too diluted. About the laser-scissors: the laser would have to be attached to the paper/card board instead of the scissors. then it would actually make sense (in the case for example that you can't draw a line on the paper because you want the paper to stay pristine).
This just blew my mind, but I'm amazed that ALL of your videos (at least this year and last year) tell the year by the second count. Been watching for like 3 years now I think and only just noticed all your videos this year end with :22... Wow.
