It aint even intelligence though. I, as a child, was told that if I wanted a pc, it'd be cheaper to build one. And so I looked up what parts you needed, and went on Amazon. Spent around 500$ myself and recieved around 500$ of other parts. I then proceeded to put the parts where the pictures showed them, being quite delicate with all my parts I slowly tightened the screws a little bit all at once and out of pure esthetic choice I did so diagonally. Had to troubleshoot because of my motherboard (one I recieved) being faulty. Went to an audio visual manager guy I knew. He asked who taught me. No one aside from him. The PICTURES ON THE WEBSITES SHOW YOU 80% OF WHAT TO DO, and pretty clearly. Autism will help with 10% of rest (cable management, screwing,etc) and knowledge only constitutes 10% of placements if you ignore speed (ie aio placement in case, fan directions, etc). It's not until you go into product choices that things get remotely complicated enough to watch a RU-vid videoas the autism comments might have cued you in, I was in special education. In elementary school at least. Actually did ok in normal middle school amd really well in highschool but still I think I'm dumb and most people are more capable than me so therefore anyone can put together a pc. It's not learning capacity or intelligence, it's pride. Pride makes them do these things. Ridicule their inflated ego. Don't put me in the same box as them I'm scared of people ;-;

Certainly! A computer's efficiency hinges on the seamless interaction of several key components, each playing a critical role: 1. **Central Processing Unit (CPU)**: The CPU, often considered the brain of the computer, executes instructions from programs and processes data. It consists of multiple cores, which allow it to perform multiple tasks simultaneously (multi-threading). The efficiency of a CPU is determined by its clock speed (measured in GHz), the number of cores, and its architecture (e.g., x86, ARM). Modern CPUs also have cache memory (L1, L2, and sometimes L3) to quickly access frequently used data, reducing the time needed to fetch data from slower main memory. 2. **Motherboard**: The motherboard is the main circuit board that houses the CPU, memory, and other crucial components. It facilitates communication between these parts through buses and chipsets. The chipset controls data flow between the CPU, memory, storage, and peripherals. A well-designed motherboard optimizes these data pathways, improving overall system performance and stability. 3. **Memory (RAM)**: Random Access Memory (RAM) is the system's short-term memory, used to store data that the CPU needs to access quickly. RAM is volatile, meaning it loses its data when power is off. The amount of RAM and its speed (measured in MHz) impact how many applications can run simultaneously and how efficiently data can be processed. Faster RAM reduces latency and speeds up data retrieval. 4. **Storage**: Storage devices, such as Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and Solid State Drives (SSDs), store data permanently. SSDs use flash memory, which offers faster read and write speeds compared to HDDs, which use spinning platters and mechanical arms. The speed of storage affects boot times, application load times, and overall system responsiveness. SSDs generally improve system efficiency by reducing these delays. 5. **Power Supply Unit (PSU)**: The PSU converts electrical power from an outlet into a form that the computer components can use. It must provide stable and sufficient power to all components, with each component requiring specific voltages. A high-quality PSU with adequate wattage ensures reliable operation and prevents potential damage from power fluctuations. 6. **Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)**: The GPU handles rendering of images, video, and animations. In modern computers, especially those used for gaming or graphic design, the GPU takes over intensive graphical tasks from the CPU, allowing for smoother performance in graphics-heavy applications. GPUs can be integrated (part of the CPU) or dedicated (separate card), with dedicated GPUs offering superior performance. 7. **Cooling System**: Effective cooling is crucial for maintaining system stability and longevity. Computers use fans, heat sinks, and sometimes liquid cooling systems to dissipate heat generated by the CPU, GPU, and other components. Overheating can cause thermal throttling, where components reduce their performance to avoid damage, thus impacting efficiency. 8. **Input/Output (I/O) Devices**: These include peripherals like keyboards, mice, printers, and external drives. Efficient communication between I/O devices and the computer relies on various interfaces and ports, such as USB, HDMI, and network connections. Fast and reliable I/O operations ensure smooth user interaction and data transfer. 9. **Bus Systems and Interfaces**: Buses are data pathways that connect different components of the computer. Key types include the Front-Side Bus (FSB), which connects the CPU to the memory, and peripheral buses like PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express), which connect expansion cards like GPUs and SSDs. Efficient bus systems ensure rapid data transfer between components. 10. **Firmware and BIOS/UEFI**: Firmware is the software embedded into hardware components, like the BIOS or UEFI, which manages the initial hardware setup and boot process. BIOS/UEFI ensures that the hardware components are properly initialized and communicate effectively with the operating system. Each of these components contributes to the overall efficiency of a computer. Proper integration and optimization ensure that data is processed quickly, tasks are handled smoothly, and the system remains stable and responsive.

Actually, major correction: Computer Science cirriculums in many countries also involve assembling computers, or learning about how a computer works on a hardware level. It's rarely covered in greater detail, however, even my little brother was taught in school about how PC components go together. However, yes. Primarily, Computer Science does focus on coding and computer theory. So they may not necessarily know how you assemble a computer, but they should totally have been taught something about computer hardware, at least. Personally, I have touched and assembled computer parts in my CS classes. It was only brief, but brief enough to develop the common sense that thermal paste does NOT go on all the tiny conductive pins :skull:

exactly, looking up stuff you don't know is part of using a computer. like whether you're a gamer, working in an office or are a computer science major. at some point there'll be something you'll have to look up.....

I feel like the best way to build a pc is to know how every part works and fits together. As long as you know how it works you should be able to figure out any type of pc as sometimes it requires a little bit of jankiness.

CompSci graduate here. We had classes on PC hardware, service and practicals on how to assemble and disassemble a PC. You would have to be deaf or have the memory of a developmentally disabled goldfish to not have learned that thermal paste goes on top and that you need some kind of cooling solution.

Yeah, I'm also a computer science major, and they definitely had me take IT 101 and stuff. Which did go through building a pc. The class was a breeze because I'd already built some PCs. Not sure why someone would assume anything while building a pc for the first time.

A few months ago I wanted to build my own pc as I didn't have one nor did I have money to buy a brand new one. So I did like a week of research to find out which pc parts can go together and what or where I need i plug into those parts for them to work and not gonna lie, those times were my most stressed days. I didn't want to accidentally burn or destroy any parts as I live in a third world country and the build was barely in my budget but luckily thousands of tutorials built the pc for me

You do understand that there are more people that are mainly buying a prebuild system instead of building one so when they get around to building one they will screw up somewhere.

My sister graduated CS many years ago, but I remember when she was at the university I had to explain to her how PC is actually built and operate. The mostly teach software related topics and a lot of the stuff is completely obsolete anyway. Plus you will never learn programming if you would rely only on what they teach. You have to start writing for yourself. Same for example with radio access networks - they teach how 2G/GSM is built (that's something from 30 years ago) and never teach newer tech because professor doesn't understand it :D. * Pozdrawiam wszystkich profesorów z obory łódzkiej aka PŁ.

(a) as long as the paste isn't conductive, it won't hurt anything. (b) the CPU doesn't actually need a cooler; it'll thermal throttle down to something close to a 286, but it won't kill it.

It seems recoverable Take out CMOS battery, carefully rinse the socket with distilled water and then 99% IPA, repeat a few times until clean, and for the CPU you can easily wipe it off Or check the electric conductivity, because if it's not electrically conductive it might just work without needing to clean it
